The Last of Us Season 1 Episode 8 REACTION

Screw you HBO!

Comments

Anyway it's more correct to say "Screw you Naughty Dog". Because most of all the plot is from the game, with some slight changes, but the core, espetially the sad parts and cliffhangers, are from the original game, produced by Naughty Dog.

Interesting that you immediately dismissed his "violent heart" claims, because the writers themselves literally think of Ellie as having a violent heart in a behind the scenes podcast. Which I think opens up a broader discussion about author intent vs audience interpretation

One thing I find interesting is the metaphors of heaven and hell visualized in this episode. David was promising Ellie that the both of them could make that place "perfect", or heaven. In reality, she had descended into hell with the devil himself, in a near literal lake of fire as the building was burning down.

Hey Michael thanks for the comment! I forgot HBO has had such great shows. Might have to check some more of them out after this.

Former (over 15 years) HBO'er here - really enjoying your reactions to this show (which happened after I left HBO - although I worked on The Wire, Sopranos, Westworld and most of the rest of the classic HBO shows) - this show really got me emotionally more than most - this episode was really powerful - I loved the subversion of expectations at the end; Joel coming like literally biblical retribution incarnate - but Ellie saved herself- her terror was really visceral and Bella's performance was just incredible. You did have good "vibes" on David and what they were eating, it was obvious you suspected it from the cult's cooking scene. I thought the actor playing David was also amazing, even if the character was vile in every way. Ellie's resourcefulness is incredible, she uses everything she can in each situation with really well thought-out improvisation to outwit others - endure & survive...

Human meat is the only Vegan meat because its the only meat that can knowingly consent to being consumed. Thats not whats happening here but I just wanted to point that out.

Every time Stu starts a reaction video with "Can it really get any worse?", I do an evil chuckle knowing what's to come 😂

JoJo

Stu, i don’t know if you noticed (while you were talking🙈), at the end when Joel got Ellie, he said to her “I got you baby girl”. He only said baby girl to his daughter, and it is the first time Joel told Ellie “baby girl”. That means It’s now official that Joel and Ellie are father and daughter (not biologically) but he sees her now as his DAUGHTER 😊 But hey, we don’t mind if you swear on camera!! You can cut the swearing for YouTube or something 🤣 swear as much as you want, this is HBO, nobody watches HBO without swearing and cursing so feel free!! ❤️

Finally Ellie is family, not cargo anymore.

The whole "Baby girl" thing at the end just always hits in the feels. The last time Joel called anyone that was Sarah in EP1... 20 years ago.... I feel that moment when he calls her "baby girl" says everything about how Joel feels about Ellie after all this time together.

I think the normal reaction to this episode is swearing!!! The end with her and the “baby girl “ breaks me every single time 🥹 … anxious for your reaction to the last episode!!!

Carol Grein Ericson

p.s. i liked how honest you were in your reaction. if you need to swear to express your disgust at this sick fuck of a person, than swear bc he IS just that: a sick fuck.

this fucking episode, man. i don’t think i ever don’t sob my god damn eyes out this episode. this episode just hits right where it fucking hurts. i can’t even describe how i feel watching it every time i rewatch tlou. there isn’t a place bad enough that i can think of for me to wish david to fuck off too, but wherever the worst place is, he can fucking go there. god. fuck. fuck this episode. truly.
