It’s a shame that it seems you listened to this one before watching S2E5. Not your fault at all because it was on the S1 Soundtrack, but would love to hear your thoughts following E5.

I loved the reaction and the breakdown of the context for the scene in Season 1. I'll admit, I was hoping to hear you talk about the context of the song in Season 2 as well.

It's also that same cup and straw we see Vander giving to Violet and Powder's mom and then as you said to Powder herself in the first season. That's like his caring mug, reserve for his loved ones

Now that you have watched half of the second season, I can finally share the thought that came to my mind when I rewatched the series from the beginning.
Powder turns on this song in the first season, but only in the second season do we find out where she knows it from. Most likely, even after the birth of her daughters, her mother still loved and kept turning on this song. She probably also loved spending time there, behind the counter at The Last Drop.
I think that the moment when Powder turns on the same song at the end of the second episode of the first season shows us that she got triggered by the conversation with Vi when she came to say goodbye before surrendering to the enforcers. Vi didn’t say goodbye directly, but the thin-skinned Powder sensed her intention without realizing it. Before Vi came, Powder was in a great mood. But after their conversation, Powder's mood suddenly changes. She goes upstairs, turns on her mother’s song, and sits in her mother’s spot, looking absolutely crushed.
This means to me that she felt she was about to lose Vi the same way she had lost her mother before—but she didn’t realize it. This is an especially unpleasant aspect of triggers for me: often, you don’t even understand what exactly triggered you.

So something I would like to point out is the scene where this plays mirrors one in season 2 episode 5. Powder plays the song on the jukebox like her mother did. And vander poured powder the same drink that he poured Felicia (their mother) in the same cup. Vander must have been feeling so nostalgic.

No spoilers but I assume that after S2E5, this song hits differently.
