Well that probably wins the award for the least likely place I would imagine someone watching my videos! I’m glad you appear to be on the road to recovery!

Lenny

I will be fine! It's a whole thing (I've been on a waiting list for Beaumont neurology in Dublin since October but now they have taken over my care) but I got lucky and can recover with physio and OT. I was watching your streams and uploads from the stroke unit in LUH I just wasn't commenting but did want to chime in a little about Better Help since I did share thoughts the first time.

Kae Devine

Wait…, what, you had a stroke? Gosh, I hope you’re okay!

Lenny

I haven't been here since my last comment on the first Better Help post (I had a wild and random stroke lmao so I was in hospital but I'll be ok) so I'm starting to catch up today. My own bad experience with Better Help took place during lockdown, so perhaps does not match the timeline of when they started to improve things, and I can admit that the experience I had may not be what they offer now, but I haven't taken a deep dive into the links you shared yet also. At the moment I would be hesitant to partner with them still, especially as things work differently where you are than they do in the US, but all of us in your audience have our own personal feelings and I think you are wise to hold off and discuss with your audience and reach your own conclusion.

I hadn't chimed in on the previous discussions about BetterHelp because I never used them personally, but I had heard many bad things about the service from a lot of people, including friends I trust. I have so much respect for you for not buying into this corporate-speak nonsense and I don't trust the other youtubing therapist who wrote that reddit post. I already intended to try to remain a patreon for the long haul (for as long as I can afford it) but your handling of this matter and continued rejection of BetterHelp, just confirms your integrity. Mad Respect. Thank you.

Ghost Mom

Coming from someone that worked on this industry (marketing and influencer) this is totally a PR move… I don’t trust… I’m glad you decided not to engage..

"BetterHelp paid 7.8 million dollars to consumers without the admission of guilt." ...huh??? I'm not sure if a more obvious admission of guilt even exists. "All the allegations remain allegations. We don't know which ones may have been valid and which ones may not have been valid." I just find it gross. They literally admit that they don't know the truth. No amount of good arguments about other things changes the fact that you just don't know. And allegations rarely spawn out of thin air. To me, continuing to work with them sounds about as ethical as giving someone who's "allegedly" groomed children before a job at a preschool. Why would anyone be willing to take that risk if it weren't for the money? And like I said - settlements speak volumes. Don't for a second think that BetterHelp did that out of the goodness of their heart. They can't claim that BetterHelp does "more good than harm" when 1) they literally don't know, and 2) healthcare services should ONLY do GOOD. It's so obvious they're just bending their morals in every way they can to justify to us and even themselves that they're doing the right thing and not just chasing after money. BetterHelp sponsorships are very lucrative. They're one of the biggest sponsors out there.

Really appreciate the openness and also that you're not working with them (it's what finally pushed me to subscribe to the patreon). I fully believe there are good people working at BetterHelp but like a lot of comments further down in that reddit thread say: for me they are beyond the point of forgiveness. Besides that, the post seems a little untrustworthy at times as well, everything seems to be very intelligently portrayed with either only BetterHelp as a source, someone sponsored by BetterHelp, or in the case of LegalEagle's video, being based on someone sponsored by BetterHelp (also already a 6 year old video). Overall they just come across as sketchy to me in every way so I have a lot of respect for turning down the sponsorship.

Hleler

I respect your decision to not take a sponsor you aren't comfortable with. It's hard to say how good the service is since there are so many both positive and negative stories about them, and it's impossible for the average user to know which ones are true and which ones are not. I think a lot of creators lose sight of what a sponsorship from a company that a lot of people have a negative view of can do to their channel. Suddenly the comment section won't be about the video, but just about the sponsor. I love when the creators I watch are able to live off of the content they make, as it allows them to make more and better content, but too often do they just see money and go for it. BetterHelp is definitely one of the companies where it's tough, cause I have heard they pay super well, but a lot of viewers see it as pure evil. It's one of those "Short term gain for long term pain" Either way, I trust your decisions, and you have already shown how much you care about the channel and your viewers.

Something about "asking for permission is harder than asking for forgiveness" as a baseline business policy just rubs me the wrong way.

Rushy

Thank you for sharing their response. Personally, I’m not interested in giving Better Help another chance, and I’m glad to hear you won’t be partnering with them.
