Imagine Dragons x J.I.D. - Enemy REACTION

Comments

"Once you turn they hate us" to me is significant to Powder turning into Jinx. Turning equals to change or to grow, whether good or bad it is part of you. People may not accept you turning/changing due to family, trauma, needs etc. (metamorphosis).

Ah cool, I thought so from the way he spoke at points.

anadoob

I needed that reaction !!!

Kudo

Vi is also represented with V’s throughout!

Hands down, one of you best videos! You look at both the images and the music (in great detail) and interpret what you see. But we also get your knowledge and experience from you profession, explaining how people react to trauma and adapt to it. And how the artist tried to showcase that within the video. Just fabulous all around. You, the musicians and the maker/artist of the show!

Yessss!! I've been waiting for this one. Another story-relevant music video that I definitely recommend to watch between season 1 episode 9 and season 2 episode 1 is "Blood, Sweat, and Tears". It was released before Season 2 aired and definitely changed my perspective on Ambessa going into the second season.

Kel Griffin

Yes he is. It was mentioned in a couple previous reactions, I just forgot which ones.

Before Jinx was revealed in game they teased her by covering the Vi and Caitlyn champion pages with graffiti and Xs too. https://www.surrenderat20.net/2013/09/red-post-collection-more-from-ransoms.html

The X symbol is representative of jinx in the show and media. It's basically one of her calling cards. If there is an x in the show you'll probably be seeing jinx soon. Its also covering her character design everywhere.

Yeah don't feel bad for taking your time. For me a large part of the reason I enjoy your reactions so much is the care and attention to detail you have. (random question, are you a veteran? I get that sense from you) Seeing you notice little details and unpack what they mean is really fun. Can't wait for episode 9!

This music video gives a LOT more weight and substance to jinx and ekkos fight in episode 7 as we don't see them interact much at all in the first act and this really shows how close they were which lends so much more weight to how much pain ekko must be going through to see his childhood best friend be destroyed both with the fight and bomb and mentally so much that he believes that part of her is dead

Probably one of my favorite reactions to a music video ever. 25 minutes for a barely 4 minute video but yet nothing seems stretched out. I just love how you didn't mean to make it an analysis but still all your first thoughts lead to pretty much half an analysis or at least a great explanation. And I love how nothing at all is scripted and we can just see your natural thought process. I saw A LOT more details through your reaction than I ever did before, even after watching it myself a few times and also a few other reactions

I’m so glad you took the time to talk about this one in a little more depth, was so fun to watch!! Let me share my favorite detail with you that I don’t think we touched on. This music video helps demonstrate various reasons for and effects of the environment on Powder. We can already see instability in things like self harming behaviors with the hitting of the head under stress, outwardly expressed breakdowns with screaming, and we also see some of the things that might leave her to feel as if she has no solid foundation with the violence of the enforcers and the underground, all things we are familiar with. But what is most interesting to me is something you briefly touched on about sense of self and needing that to come from an outside source. There is a perfect of example of this in Powder here which I just love. The video is cut through with clips of Powder sitting at the bar reminiscing/remembering various other events. They show us these events through her eyes: practicing punching with Vi and Ekko, who falls over. Then we see Powder again at the bar, very carefree and laughing at him, before it cuts back to the memory, but this time we see—from Powder’s perspective—Vi smiling at Powder. Back at the bar, Powder is almost, for lack of a better word, transfixed by this, and can be seen smiling slightly with an expression denoting that this memory of Vi smiling at her is very meaningful to her. Later on, we also see Powder remembering getting pushed onto a fence with Vi by enforcers, followed by the clips of Vi and Powder fighting, during which Powder gets pushed down and Vi storms away, again seen from Powder’s point of view. Back at the bar, Powder is no longer laughing. Instead, she’s now holding back tears. So essentially, in a matter of minutes or potentially just mere seconds, Powder has gone from a high emotional state of laughter to another high emotional state of sadness, and her feelings were completely dependent on Vi’s perception of her, and not even in the present moment, but purely based on prior events she was recalling in the present. She was reliving these memories and Vi’s attitude towards her in them had a dramatic and powerful effect on her emotions, and likely sense of self!! She is already looking outside of herself for validation and is heavily influenced by what she finds. I feel like this is such a fantastic example of this in Powder’s childhood and plays heavily into her growth over time into Jinx.

The X symbol is basically JinX's tag. Shimmer barrels are also marked with X's. Also Jinx has X's all over her design, same with V for Vi.

One thing I noticed about the music video is that the monkey wind-up toy chimes to the same tempo as the song. You actually notice the lead singer bobbing his head to the beat of the monkey and looking toward the band. You could say that the wind-up monkey is what started it all for Powder becoming Jinx, so it's a nice touch. I also think that the 'X' not only signifies Jinx but also her desire to cross herself out. To cross out who she was growing up because the memories are too painful. It also reminds me a bit of Martin Scorcese's The Departed, where every time there's a character death about to happen, you see an 'X' in the shots leading up to it.

Craig

glad you’ve now had a chance to watch this. I also watched this after the Jinx/Ekko fight on the bridge, and it changed my perspective a bit. Obviously it was clear they knew each other as kids, but in this you get to see just how close they were.

Enunciate was definitely the word :)
