Arcane Season 1 Episode 8 REACTION

Comments

27:45 I see that top-down shot of the bed as a parallel to the Ying/Yang imagery we see on the pre-intro record disc thing. Not entirely sure what it's supposed to symbolise though. 35:00 with regards to Arcane, whenever you ask “is that meaningful in some way” the answer is, invariably, “yes” 🫠 57:00 did you spot Jinx stood behind Caitlyn, with glowing "shimmer" eyes?

Matt Sturgeon

also where you clocked the mural when Ambessa Medarda was in the bath with Jayce. that very specific shot's every single element was picked apart by the end of Arcane. the animators were exceedingly good at the tiniest details. without any spoilers, the way the writers introduced Ambessa is truly in line with Noxus as it is the region in Runeterra where might and violence is the way of life. it also helps that Ambessa isn't vague about what she wants so the audience kind of knows from the get go that she's someone you want to keep an eye on.

donglordthe3rd

can I just say, how you managed to zero in on Singed's sedation of Silco and break down why is impressive.

donglordthe3rd

Loved the jokes in this one😂 can’t wait for the finale and of course SEASON TWO🔥

Jazzy

The hard part about diplomacy in these situations is that most of the people acting don't want peace, they want justice. There's no way they could stomach just returning to the status quo, and Piltover isn't ready to accept it's faults with the Undercity's management.

J M

Its interesting in that both Jinx and Cait also tend to parallel one another in a lot of ways. Blue haired, obsessive shooters that Vi finds herself torn between. (And a lot more in season 2 but no spoilers). Its interesting that they chose to show Vi and Cait in that position while at that moment Jinx is literally hallucinating that Vi is replacing her. I don't believe she is replacing her, obviously... but i do wonder if that was on purpose. We also see these small moments where Cait reminds Vi of the people she loves. (Vander's "you have a good heart", seeing her mom as Cait tends to her injuries) it could be that in that moment she was also reminded of powder and took comfort in cait's presence because of it and they chose to yin yang them like the record to show that. I mean, she's quite literally telling a story about how her and powder used to share a bed just like that.

I am so thankful that you started this series. Because I watched the beginning of arcane with my ex boyfriend and I couldn't handle watch it alone. I really love all the insides and questions you askel yourself. About this video: I noticed that her mother were drawn more in the front of the screen so she appeared much bigger and somewhat 'higher' in rank. I hope it is understandable what I mean bc I am no native speaker haha. And sometimes when you talk about the army I kinda see that (of course) this topic affects you. I wasn't sure if it is okay to ask you. Please tell me if it isn't, then I will delete this comment and will ask no more questions about this topic. This might be too personal for you to answer here, but you said you were in Germany as well when you were in the British army. Is there any connection between the fact you were a soldier and why you decided to specialize in traumatherpy? Or did you worked as a therapist for the army?

Diana Janovsky

Yes, and it is also reminiscent of the spinning record at the beginning of each episode, where Jinx and Vi's heads are in those same positions, one up one down, looking at each other

Lily Luna

I was thinking exact the same. I watched many reactions to S01 in the last 3 years and only very very few recognized it.

Aline Wunneburg

Thankfully, the show was released in acts, so you'd get 3 episodes to go through at a time. Otherwise I think we'd have all gone a bit bonkers with these cliffhangers, lol. This was definitely one of my favorite episodes though, and it was awesome to see you noticing so many of the small nuanced details of the show's art, dialogue, and direction. I'm still amazed at how the creators managed to make the initial moments of that fight scene in the Shimmer factory so just. *Fun*. It feels *fun* to watch at first. You get kind of lost in the adrenaline of "aw yeah, they're gonna get the baddies", only to rip that out from under you when Jayce shoots the child rather than the faceless, dehumanized shimmer-suit monster creatures. The way your stomach and heart sink in time with the kid's fall, and they let the screen rest on black for those long, painful seconds to drive it home. And how when the scene finally resumes, we have to look around and see that the whole place is staffed by children. These are the "bad guys" we were cheering for violence against just a moment ago. It took Jayce's personal moral stake in this and made it wholly personal to the viewers as we have to question our own emotional response to the scene as well. It's just so well done.

Kel Griffin

I think revealing a punch line to a joke in the next season is a tiny spoiler. But then I also think referring to her gauntlets as a punch line is yet another bad pun.

Joe

I loved your reaction to the art and animation of the series. I think analysis is best left for other analytical clips. Your first reactions focuses on the beauty, cleverness, and relatable connections of the characters. I like how you noticed the wall art in Mel's nightmare and in the scene with Jacey and Ambessa. Also, you looked liked you were enjoying the story more in this reaction. Loved it! Have fun with it! ❤️

Valeria Antelo

Jayce’s main players of the the game love it !!

Carol Grein Ericson

I think those comments added a spice to the episode! I Laughed so loud with the “LEGO” and the top and the “hammer” one 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Carol Grein Ericson

I think unfortunately is more obvious for people that have more closeness to the game :/ … we know that Jinx’s eyes are pink :/

Carol Grein Ericson

I don’t think spoils anything 😂🤣

Carol Grein Ericson

I agree! And to add the game meaning of it, they are blue and red , and the game map is blue side vs red side ! one of the amazing details created by Fortiche !

Carol Grein Ericson

FYI : I think the child soldiers would be an awesome subject to talk on a live.

Carol Grein Ericson

I think that SIlco carrying Jinx himself is a nice detail. He has these two big strong henchmen next to him but only trusts himself enough to carry her.

Kabidu

Right ??? That’s why I love his reactions !!!

Carol Grein Ericson

I’m soooo happy you Got the boat mirror scene is one of my favourites of the show !!! So full of meaning !!!

Carol Grein Ericson

What a episode it made my night, and just enjoy that last episode let it play all the way through fck it...No but really nice reaction I'm surprised you caught that parallel running scene of viktor on the first sight I personally didn't catch it the first time. And many other scenes where you got that precise observation skill just blew me off !!! Can't wait for ep 9 thank youu Stu

Kudo

Another amazing reaction! I’m impressed with your attention to detail pertaining to the art, expressions, and dialogue as the show progresses. I’ll be interested to hear about whatever thoughts you have on this last act looking back on it and bracing myself for the last episode 🥲

Jelly Shelly

Oh, I forgot to mention that Jayce's hammer always makes me smile because he could have built anything, really, it literally shoots energy blasts, but it’s a hammer because Baby Jayce always imagined himself as a hammer-wielding hero (as seen in his childhood drawing). It obviously comes from the game, but it's still cute that they added the drawing and made this connection

luana_reads

Towards the questions at the end, yes the episodes got released as the acts, one act each week, so there usually weren't toooo big cliffhangers But without any spoilers - waiting 3 years for that second season was a hell of a pain

Marlon Grazek

I agree, that's what it reminded me of

luana_reads

I think the way Vi and Cait are lying on the bed is simply meant to represent a yin yang. Two very different people, topside/bottom, enforcer/convict, priviliged/not... oil/water. But even with their differences they can come together to be something more. Vi and Caitlyn are a sort of metaphorical bridge (we love bridges in arcane lol) between the two cities that show it is still possible for them to all come together despite everything they've been through and all their differences.

K Boo

Viktor running for the first time in his life and metaphorically catching up with the boat of his childhood will never fail to make me cry. It's one of my favorite scenes ever. The other moment in this episode that never fails to bring tears to my eyes is Jayce, standing there at the end, looking up and realizing they’re all just children. I love how Viktor and Jayce, separately but together, come to understand that they’ve both taken one step too far. Viktor inadvertently killed Sky in his attempt to cure himself, while Jayce inadvertently killed a child in his effort to solve an impossible problem.

luana_reads

ohhh ye the last of us or maby for a bit of fun Hasbeen hotel as its only had one series so far.

sarah pickles

lol its the one tiny spoiler that doesn't tell you anything so i dont know if its truly a spoiler

sarah pickles

Bitch mittens is a great phrase

StuBoy

Sadly most don't but oh well

C-rad

the weaponry it this show is just outstanding i just love vis bitch mittens way better than that hammer pluss its adorable seeing your man crush for jace growing

sarah pickles

My thoughts observations and opinions Once again Jinx is going with silco and vi (at least in frame) is behind bars. Silco could have had one of his much more muscular henchmen behind him carry Jinx. But he doesn't trust them with the saftey of his dying daughter. One does take Jinx's minigun though. Vi looks so confused when she's left alone in caitlyns bedroom. In Caitlyns talk with her mother she say's somthing interesting "A kingpin who wants to exploit them," i don't think silco "wants to" but he does end up exploiting people for his goal of Zaun. I think it shows that caitlyn still doesn't have the full picture of how all this came to be. Good on Caitlyns mom for scheduling the audience. Phenominal catch on the "Are you prepared to lose her" line your one of the only ones ive seen pick it up first watchthrough. Its plausable that someone else could take silcos place I think, or at least sit in his chair, but to do that they would have to go through sevika. In terms of "bigger fish" silco is the biggest in the underground. He's united all the crime lords under him I believe their refered to as the "chembarons" and you have seen them already in the last episode. I think the reason that Jinx hallucinates the "bad guys" as monsters is because if their monsters Vi will chase them away. When Vi is refering to running away from the monster I think their are 3 people and 2 periods of time she could be refering too. silco, as the monster that took powder away. Powder as the monster that Vi ran from after she killed her family. Or Vi who hit powder in her anger and had to "run away" to cool off. As for the second time period Vi made the choice in episode 7 to run away from Jinx (the monster) and powder was left alone. I think the time vi is most likely refering to is the second time as it makes more sense for her to be blaming herself for that. Singed (the doctor) looks very smily when he's performing shimmer surgery on Jinx. I think its more likely the smile is from the burn scars he was left with after powders monkey bomb. Heimerdinger couldn't tell the hoverboard was for the fissures and assumed the blades were improperly pitched. In reality its because the air is denser (because of pollution) another way to show that Heimerdinger is out of touch. Vi does betray Jinx to the council this episode. when asked who made the explosives she responds 'her name is Jinx" after caitlyn hesistates. Vi is also under the impression that Silco is unreasonable. Jayce built the weapons to protect the city but in the end the first ones to use the technology of hextech as a weapon was Piltover itself. And it got a kid killed. Not much protection there huh? Attacking the manufacturing facillitys sounds good on paper until you remember that civilians are the ones working there. and in the undercity childeren have always been working (because their all poor). Did you notice the Kid wasn't fighting, he Just pressed the button to call silcos protection. In the end (right before the kid got shot) the shimmer soldiers were running from Jayce rather than attacking thats when the kid got caught in the crossfire.

Last Thing

I had to rewind it, the realization on Stu’s face was priceless 😂

yo_boy_Wolfie

ahhh we are so close to season 2 i REALLY cant wait, after arcane I'd suggest the last of us but its early to decide just yet ^^

TaroGhostie

I believe they released in three Acts (3 eps each). Ep7-9 in the last Act. Also can't wait for you to watch ep 9 :)

Matt

Are you planning on taking a break after season one, or jumping straight into season two?

Abbie Lloyd

For Viktor running as a child, it also felt like him falling when chasing his invention was showing that he'd have to go into the unknown(dark cave filled with what I assume to be the plants which Singed created shimmer from) to chase his invention, and by extension, his pursuit of science as a whole for him. Without utilizing the path of shimmer(and the unknown in the form of the Hexcore), he'd be stuck in that snapshot where he fell as a kid chasing his boat and dream, unable to catch them. Great eye on the boats in the background, didn't even put that together. Him roaring after breaking into a sprint felt like one of the best uses of that "cliche" that I've seen. I can't imagine how it must feel to be able to kick your body into an explosive sprint after not being able to reliably command it for 20+ years, especially with the thematic stuff on top, beautiful scene.

Harris

I realy felt that facial expression when you realized the episode is over. And im not quite sure, but did you recognize every detail of the last scene/ last few frames?

Manu_lc

the scene with Victor out running the boat and him screaming his lungs out, finally being able to keep up with the world around him, is such a beautiful scene.

Marc-Oliver_2000

Ah gotcha, that was pretty good

StuBoy

You have no idea how hard it is for me to try and maintain some form of filter of what comes out my mouth.

StuBoy

That one on top of the other comment made me giggle lmao 🤣

LiL' CuTzZz

As someone with MS, Viktor is my ride or die in this show.

AmbushIntheDark

No released all the same day, but yeah we had to wait a week for each act

Luigi Sequino

3 episodes (1 act basically) drops at the same time and a week later you would get the next 3 👍🏻

Jay

3 a week? So you would have to wait a couple of days?

StuBoy

Fortunately there were 3 episode a week so yeah we didn't actually have to wait for the next one

Luigi Sequino

I cant wait to see your analysis of Ambessa (Mel's mom). Shes such a fascinating character.

AmbushIntheDark

So according to the showrunners, Cait has a habit of sneaking girls into her bedroom. So thats why her parents weren't very surprised by Vi.

AmbushIntheDark

Ok thanks!

Manu_lc

If you mean the ones that patreon makes I'm guessing it takes a while for them to be processed. But I havent done anything different than before. Edit: It says on mind captions enabled and may take an hour to process.

StuBoy

Oh God, how ugly I’m going to cry over the next episode...

alex lavrenof

Hey Stu, did ýou turn off subtitles? (The option for your subtitles, not these from netflix)

Manu_lc

Thanks again to Patreon for such a thumbnail picture)
