I would like your opinion
Added 2025-01-08 14:11:48 +0000 UTCCurrently having some thoughts that might make things better for all of us...
I am thinking of splitting the current channel into two:
1) Connection through Reaction (Music). This channel will be pretty much what it is now. Me listening to music, looking at the lyrics, either appreciating it as a listener to music or relating it to mental health / trauma. Basically what the channel has been doing for the last 2 years.
2) Connection through Reaction (TV and Movie) (name to be considered). This channel will be where I watch (you guessed it...) TV series and films. This will include the episode reactions, the deeper analysis of key scenes, formulations, live streams etc. It will also allow me to upload little tidbits and clips etc of things that stand out to me and I think of - which might be quite fun! This would start with some Arcane but then start to include other series.
Some other points:
None of this is extra work for me - it just changes where I upload to.
Nothing changes for Patreon - it will still be one Patreon for all the content.
I have a hunch that hardcore Johnny Cash fans aren't really interested in what Vi's facial expressions were like on the bridge scene (and that impacts the algorithm when my own subs don't click on my videos). I can also see it happening already on the channel where the click through rate (the percentage of people that click on videos) is lowering across the board - i assume because of the influx of arcane subs not clicking on the music videos, and the music video subs not clicking on the Arcane videos.
There would be a delay in monetising the second channel (the importance of this is more about control of ads, how many, and placement rather than the revenue itself) until that channel hit the required milestones, although i suspect (and hope) it would be relatively quick. Again, this doesn't impact Patreon as all the content on here is ad free anyway.
THIS IS JUST AN IDEA FOR NOW!!!
Let me know your thoughts, opinions, comments etc and please vote in the poll below. Usually with these things there is something massively obvious that I overlook!
Thanks you.

I guess they will have to find it how they originally found it in the first place. Either by search or by recommendation. It might not look like much of an issue now. But when i end up with 18 episodes of Arcane with probably 20+ videos of other arcane related scenes etc, and then say I do something like attack on titan that has over 90 episodes plus all the inbetween stuff then its simply going to over run the channel. If you subbed to the original channel because you wanted to see the NF or Ren journey and then get 100 videos of a tv show I think you would be pretty turned off from the channel.

2025-01-09 17:46:39 +0000 UTCIts difficult to say I think, I'll admit it was a concern I had when I realized what your original content is. Its unclear how effective moving (presumably) the arcane fans to a new channel will be. I would expect at least 5/10 of them to simply not find/see it regardless of how you try to inform them.

2025-01-09 17:42:21 +0000 UTCLike what sort of content? I don’t have any personal content or content that is unrelated to reactions. I already have my actual formal therapy channel (the one where I’m recognised by YouTube as a verified licensed therapist).
StuBoy
2025-01-09 09:39:05 +0000 UTCMakes sense. Have you thought about where personal or unrelated content might go? Would those fit into one of these channels?

2025-01-09 09:34:07 +0000 UTCI tend to like mostly weird and/or indie pop and folk stuff. Some favorites: Kate Bush, Venus Hum, Son Lux, Hozier, Matthew and the Atlas, Jungle, Kyson, half.alive, Glass Animals, Temper Trap, Zola Blood, Varttina, Heilung.

2025-01-09 08:21:48 +0000 UTCThis might actually be an interim conclusion that I come to and one that I have been thinking about. This way it keeps reactions together in one place, but then there is a separate space for the deeper analysis stuff outside of that - there has always been a divide on the channel between ‘reaction’ and ‘analysis’ so this idea would help that a bit. And then when I start a new show, or maybe the next season of Arcane I can consider which side it is going to live on.

2025-01-09 03:11:08 +0000 UTCThanks Amorena, out of interest what music are you interested in?

2025-01-09 03:07:27 +0000 UTCHe has an anime music channel

2025-01-08 22:42:07 +0000 UTCAs a viewer, I'd rather only have to go to one channel for all of a particular person's content, but from what I know about the youtube algorithm, splitting things up does usually help. At the moment I'm here mostly for the Arcane reactions & analysis, but in theory I like the music reactions too. Most of the music I've seen here so far just hasn't been music I'm personally interested in.

2025-01-08 22:35:07 +0000 UTCi love the 2nd channel idea tbh. i feel like it would be better for everyone

2025-01-08 22:32:07 +0000 UTCWould it maybe worth considering the split to be reaction vs analysis rather than music vs show? You’re incredibly media literate, and I’d love to see you some deep dives into shows or topics that interest you, similar to the formulations you’ve done for arcane, but not necessarily through formulations depending on the context. Feel like both channels being about reacting could be limiting, like how you previously felt the old brand, therapist reacts was forcing you to always look at things from a therapists lens. Know I just said don’t listen to fan feedback back lol but this came into my head right after haha

2025-01-08 22:06:09 +0000 UTCIt makes sense to me to split the channel. I enjoy the music reactions as well, but I’ll just subscribe to both.

2025-01-08 20:45:36 +0000 UTCI hear you. This is just one small part of a wider decision making process.
StuBoy
2025-01-08 20:16:55 +0000 UTCRespectfully, I don’t think this is the sort of decision you should be consulting your community to make. The YouTube algo is a black box to most of us, do what you think will be best for the metrics you prioritise. We’ll be watching either way
C_Forde
2025-01-08 19:34:20 +0000 UTCIMO it depends on how much overlap you think there is between your music reactions audience and your other reactions audience. If there isn't a lot of overlap then both audiences will probably be happier not seeing the other stuff as much, if there is significant overlap then they are a bit more likely to miss something they wanted to see.

2025-01-08 18:48:37 +0000 UTCMarco focuses on video game music. Didn't know he had other channels.

2025-01-08 18:42:19 +0000 UTCsounds like a good plan but i do hope you not taking on too much what with all your work offline and you phd (which i hope is going well )and having time for yourself and your family. other than that i look fanword to what is to come

2025-01-08 18:25:27 +0000 UTCMaybe Connection through [Blank] could be a format to consider? Connection through Music, Connection through Film, etc
JewelShadow
2025-01-08 16:46:09 +0000 UTCMakes a lot of sense to me! I'm here primarily for Arcane and future shows, so I haven't been clicking on the music ones.

2025-01-08 16:42:43 +0000 UTCAwesome. Thanks Stu!

2025-01-08 15:23:58 +0000 UTCI couldn't say one way or the other since I am not familiar with how the algorithm works but I can say, as an Arcane fan, it is true I am only really watching those videos consistently since I'm not a big music guy. I don't mind scrolling by the music videos but if it hurts the channel, a second may help, but will likely split the subscriber count and growth in two.

2025-01-08 15:01:33 +0000 UTCThanks Derek. On a separate note Sadisdik reached out for me to take a look at one of his other tracks which I am going to do soon
StuBoy
2025-01-08 14:59:22 +0000 UTCSplitting the channel sounds like a great idea! Another reaction channel I follow did the same thing, and after a short transition period, it really improved things from a viewer perspective. They also used a quick outro to guide viewers to the new channels, which worked well. If it helps the algorithm and the audience, it seems like a win-win!

2025-01-08 14:57:57 +0000 UTCThis feels like a trap to get me to have 'Marco Meatball' in my search history.... but im going in for the risky click...
StuBoy
2025-01-08 14:55:00 +0000 UTCIf it helps you this is exactly what Marco meatball does and he's doing great

2025-01-08 14:53:15 +0000 UTCWhatever works for you. As a member though, I find it enriching to see you comment on music that I am not familiar with. I came for the psychological profiling of Arcane characters but I have been enjoying other videos too. As you said, in Patreon all the content is available so I am not going to loose the chance to see your other videos. Green light!

2025-01-08 14:49:53 +0000 UTCIm here for both arcane and music that I like or interests me, I found you throught the nf reactions after all. So Id say if it makes your life easier go ahead.
Olf
2025-01-08 14:39:35 +0000 UTCIts no extra work for me as its content im going to make anyway, im just uploading it to a different (and arguably more relevant) channel. Once I get a bit further into Arcane I will run a poll for the next series etc. In the next few months i should get more time so will be able to watch more than one thing at once.
StuBoy
2025-01-08 14:37:33 +0000 UTCI think it’s a great idea! As long as it doesn’t inconvenience you, of course. It sounds to be more organized that way. If we could start recommending the next series/movie you react to, that would be awesome. I personally would really enjoy your reactions to the series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” 😊 Been loving the Arcane content. I was already here for the music reactions but reactions to series that I enjoy has been refreshing! 🙏

2025-01-08 14:34:50 +0000 UTCYeah I think it would. The general consensus in the YouTube world is - different audience, different channel. And I think moving forward the audience who are interested in Arcane / Attack on titan / Cyberpunk etc etc and the detailed analysis of those show are quite different to people who want to see me listening to Dimash for the first time. I know there are similarities in terms of being pop culture etc but I think there are enough differences to warrant consideration of a new channel.

2025-01-08 14:25:52 +0000 UTCThanks Helen.

2025-01-08 14:23:34 +0000 UTCI initially subscribed for Arcane but will probably be interested in some of the music videos too. I have no problem with subscribing to both channels, though, so either option is fine with me.

2025-01-08 14:20:47 +0000 UTCIf it would help you win over the Ol' algorithm I think you should absolutely do it!
