Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 4K Texture Pack 1.1.0b Patreon Release

Hi everyone! Today marks the Patreon release of the 1.1.0 update to the Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 4K texture pack! It includes over 100 new textures, covering both the UI, environment, characters, text and more. This update has a focus on improving Hyrule environment textures, Lorule environment textures, 4K eyes for Link, several bug fixes as well as major overhauls to the first two dungeons in the game.

1.1.0b Update Changelog:

Version 1.1.0b was released roughly 3 weeks after the initial release to fix an issue some users were reporting where some textures would display completely black. If you've already downloaded the 1.1.0 version, it is highly recommended to download this version to ensure that you don't encounter the aforementioned issue as well. This affects both the 1080p and 4K versions. Save states between  1.1.0/1.1.0a and 1.1.0b are not compatible, so make sure to save in-game and copy the whole "sdmc" folder from the previous version's "user" folder in the texture pack directory to the new version to ensure that your game saves are copied over successfully!

1.1.0a Update Changelog:

Version 1.1.0a was released roughly 24 hours after the initial release to fix a mistake made with the 1080p version of the texture pack. If you've already downloaded the 1.1.0 version, there is no need to download this version unless you explicitly need the 1080p textures.

===================================================

Changelog:

===================================================

Lorule is being upgraded!

The arguably most missed from the 1.0 release was Lorule (the dark world) 4K textures. Well, I've got good news! I've been hard at work creating new textures for Lorule, and have now covered many of the most prominent environment textures there. This is only the beginning, of course. Expect many more textures in future updates to the pack!

Fixed Region Switching

In the 1.0 release, there was no automated method to select the region of the game you're playing, so North American players had to manually make the proper changes for the new textures to display on their version. Now there's a convenient little script file included with the pack which easily and quickly changes the region of the texture pack to whichever region you want, it doesn't get much easier than that!

4K item textures!

This is another major improvement over the 1.0 release- completely new 4K item icons! There's not much more to say about that, but it's really nice nonetheless.

4K eyes for Link and several NPCs!

Link's eyes, and several other NPCs, have been remade from scratch in 4K. This is especially noticable in cutscenes!

Upgraded UI textures

Some of the UI textures have been remade from scratch, like the "stamina bar" and some menu buttons. More are being remade as well, so stay tuned for that in future updates!

Fixed several bugs and issues!

This includes the infamous texture swapping bug, which was present in the 1.0 release. After playing for a while, texture start to glitch out and get replaced with completely random textures- which will force a restart of the game to fix it. This has now been worked around by downgrading Citra to Canary 1939. This means that save states from the 1.0 release are NOT compatible with the 1.1 version. Please save the game using the built in save system in-game and transfer the built in saves when updating versions!

Upgraded dungeon textures for the first two dungeons (Eastern Palace and the House of Gales)

This covers things like walls and floors, doors, chests, carpets, random decorations etc.

====================================================

The texture pack includes a preconfigured version of the Citra emulator for Windows, with optimized preset settings so you (ideally) don't have to lift a finger once you have the game running. If you're using a Mac or Linux OS, or even Android, using it on those platforms is incredibly easy as well. Just load in the game rom and play!

You may need to set these bindings again on your own controller in case Citra does not recognize it automatically. Simply double click the input button for each respective button and press the corresponding button on your controller and you should be good to go!

This should make the game much more enjoyable, especially if you're playing on a TV where you definitely don't want to be switching around between different controllers mid-action. Luckily, A Link Between Worlds was already designed with a single screen in mind so playing through the game without having to look at the bottom screen once is definitely possible.

Enjoy!

Selecting your game region (if you're using the PAL/European or Japanese version of the game);

All you need to do now, if you're using the European version of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, click the "Run this if you're using the PAL (European) version of the game.bat" file inside the texture pack folder. Done! It'll now work great with your version of the game. Easy, right?

How to enable MXAO (ambient occlusion) & DoF (Depth of Field):

This means you can now experience glorious self shadowing around objects, which looks really great with A Link Between Worlds's fantasy art style. Try it out by doing the following:

* Set your game view to "Single" in Citra.

* Set your resolution to 10x in the Graphics Settings in Citra.

* Press the "HOME" button on your keyboard, this will bring up the ReShade UI.

* Check the "MXAO" box in the list of effects.

* Go to the "Advanced" tab in ReShade and check the box next to the depth buffer in the list with the highest value (it should be a very high number while all others are 0). This number will change constantly, but don't worry it's supposed to do that!

* You're done. Have fun!

Enjoy!

The Update is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published!

There is a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it. The 1080p version is smaller in file size and requires less RAM, but doesn't look quite as nice. You can download both and test which one works best for you, if you want! :)

Please feel free to try it out!

(Only available for use with the Citra 3DS emulator, the texture pack does not work on real 3DS consoles).

You can find more information about my HD texture pack here.

Check out the trailer here if you haven't already!

Download it here (Desktop & Mobile)

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

Comments

Just tried using on Windows, but it immediately quit out when I tried to run the rom. It's the USA version, and no issues running it on normal Citra. Not sure if ideas?

Dan

Hey there! I was wondering, what recording of the Lorule Castle theme are you using in your trailer for ALBW? It sounds like live orchestra and I haven't heard this particular version of the theme before and it's enchanting.

I know its late but thanks

Jeugeo

i have some texture glitch how fix it? i run resolution 5x because my screen is 1080p tested in rtx 3060

maximecool92

Hi Maxime! Yes the packs will work on all versions of Citra. I recommend the latest version of Citra, or the one included with the pack.

Henriko Magnifico

hello , is work in any version citra? or you recommanded one version for texture?

maximecool92

Yes! Simply copy the contents of the "user" folder into your Citra directory in %appdata% (on Windows) and use regular Citra to play the game. Also make sure to enable "load custom textures" in the Citra Graphics Settings > Advanced tab, or else the textures won't load!

Henriko Magnifico

Is there some way to use this with the newest version of citra? The Old one doesnt work with my New AMD gpu

Jeugeo

No sir, we're all good! Thanks!

Hi Aquos! The link has been updated and should be working again. Are you still experiencing issues?

Henriko Magnifico

Hi Dav! The link should be working now. Is it still not working for you?

Henriko Magnifico

yo link brokie ??? :(

The link doesn't work anymore :(

I have uploaded a patch, 1.1.0b, to fix the issue! It uses a different version of the Citra emulator, which means save states will not be compatible with the new version. Please save using the in-game saving system and copy the full "sdmc" folder from the old version to the new version in the texture pack directory > user folder and all save data should transfer successfully!

Henriko Magnifico

Ok, I grabbed a few screenshots. sending now.

Ray Danger

This does not sound normal at all, do you mind sending me some screenshots of the issue in action?

Henriko Magnifico

I'm getting black holes instead of eyes some of the time. Is this a settings issue? I haven't changed anything from the loader settings.

Ray Danger

I re-downloaded & it's working just fine. I must have done something wrong. Thanks!

Ray Danger

Hi Ray! The default region version of the texture pack was changed from PAL (European) to NTSC (North American) in the 1.1.0 version, since that's the version most users use by default. Have you tried running the "Run this if you're using the PAL (European) version!.bat" file inside of the texture pack folder?

Henriko Magnifico

I can't get this to load the textures. V1.0.0 loads fine, but V1.1.0a just runs the base game...

Ray Danger

Thank you! Once again, great work as always.

Bo

OH! I mistakingly uploaded the wrong files. The 4K version is an older build of 1.1.0 and the 1080p version is the correct 4K version... I compiled and uploaded the files at 2am, which was a poor decision. Sorry! I've uploaded the correct versions now!

Henriko Magnifico

I was wondering the same thing; I'm hoping he'll clarify soon.

Bo

Why is the 4K download smaller then the 1080P download? I think something might be wrong here...
