You are so right. Material possessions and items we all want because we "just have to have them" disappear, break, become "old school" and such. But being with family and friends and giving thanks for all that we have is the true meaning. Being able to be thankful for a roof over our heads, food to eat, electricity, heating oil, transportation, a job, our health, etc. Those cannot be replaced. I don't ask for anything for Christmas, maybe something that I already use and am running out of, or something I know will be helpful for the future. That's what we do as adults. I don't need anymore "junk" in my house that will end up in a tote or buried in a closet. Money that could have been put to good use on something the buyer needs. We celebrate the season, the joy, each other, memories that we make, and memories we reflect on. Your quote rings true no matter what time of year: "be good to yourself, be good to others, it's important". But this time of year feels magical. To have the snow fall and listen to music, watch people and dogs outside having fun. I remember sledding down the "big hill" when I was young. Walking all the way up with my dinky sled and feeling the bumps in the snow as I careened down (about 30 feet total when I think about it - but it felt like a mountain). Those were the best times. Having fun outside and laughing, getting wet and cold only to come inside and shed the many layers and feel the warmth and maybe have some hot chocolate. We didn't get much snow, but my neighbor's kids managed to make a snowman and I bet they had a blast! I am the one who secretly wishes for snow because I love it. Give me a foot or more of snow over hot and humid weather any day. Yup, I'm that weirdo. 🌨️☃️♥️🎄
