Believe it or not, some children come to this earth with such understanding and they just 'get it'. (I know because I raised one.) It appears you are one of those rare individuals too. Your mother was an incredible person who knew what is most important, even though she regretted not being able to offer more to you. Your reaction back then shows me what a great character you had even then as a little boy and it is this little boy who is still recognizable today in your way of seeing the world and the people in it. Your mom can be really proud of her boy. Thank you for telling us this story, it is a good reminder for the whole year but especially now at Christmas time it touches my heart. 🎄❤️🥺

Never Ever did my husband ever buy me a gift . . . for any occasion . . . ever! While all my friends at work would spend our lunch hour sharing all they rec'd from their partners/husband's, I'd lie or try to change the subject. That was then . . . I'm free now.

It’s so heartwarming! 🥹😍 And it’s incredible how kids often seem to have a much easier time to look through all the BS and get right to the heart of what matters most. You learned a wonderful life lesson early on, that someone’s intention and heart matter way more than material stuff.
