I Don't Want To Be A Magical Girl (Pilot Animatic) - Reaction (Full)

Comments

"His legs was like... like linguini!" "Fuck yo cafeteria wall, buy a new one! What about mah leeeegs?!" In all seriousness though, I had an idea for a self-referential magical girl story in the 2000s that never went anywhere, but this... this is SO much better. It has such an appealing style and original take on the genre. I really hope it becomes a regular series.

Zefram Mann

The magical girl genre tends to be sapphic so I wouldn’t be surprised. I do love how different this is though.

Connie Clemons

One things that’s funny is the Kira is voice by an actor that’s has played a magical girl. Bennett Abara voiced sailor Jupiter in sailor moon since 2014

Perla Bernache

Well that was incredibly cute

ItsSimmeRin

I was hesitant to watch it at first, but then I watched it & got hooked.

Animegirl

I also want to say that I am pleased and not at all surprised that you’re the first reactor to consider a possible romance between A & Z. Like the end credits are Zira just staring longingly at Aika while the end theme sings a whole damn love song.

A Magic Duck

Ah! Wasn't aware of that. Zira is also she/they. And while Aika isn't confirmed, I doubt they'll have Zira crush on a straight girl.

Joey Quixote

Or at least that Zira has a crush on Aika. They're still in the slow part of the slowburn before the fire starts.

Four, not three. Hoshi is non-binary, Zira is sapphic in some form, and Miss and Devoid are lesbians.

I have been waiting for this reaction. I can’t wait for more of this show.

A Magic Duck

Love a good trope subversion. *poof*

Ryan Porter

Yes, I'm so happy you reacted to it, I love it so much! 🤩😍 And yes, of course, I'm all for Aikira (or Zaika). Furthermore, Kiana definitely manages to scratch that TOH itch, I've no doubts that PPPIDWTBAMG is going to fill that longing in our hearts.

og.monstr

Kiana also mentioned that I Don't Want to be a Magical Girl is meant to be a commentary about balancing work and personal life.

Vex Valor

You clocking Eclipse's VA as really good is fitting, his name is Aleks Le and he's shot to stardom in anime voice acting over the last few years specifically because of his incredibly smooth voice.

Ferret

Looked this pilot up right after I got the notification for this. Will definitely check it out, had never heard of it or the creator until now lmao, thanks Elijah.

SauceyRed

Awww, I'm so glad Elijah reacted to this! It's so sweet & fun and I absolutely wanna see Kiana make it a full series!

{L} Frances

I've watched it a couple time and didn't noticed she wrote the A in Aika like a star; nice catch

Spyko

I have been following the creator of this for years and she has been drawing these characters for awhile, so I was so excited when she announced that there was going to be an animatic for them. She had a tight budget and just wanted to get the idea out there which is why she decided only one scene would be fully colored and animated to show what it would look like if it was. The creator is Kiana Khansmith who is a lesbian and confirmed that Zira is in love with Aika. Their teacher Miss is also a lesbian. (There is a cute comic she drew of Zira and Miss talking about being queer) Also the star's name is Hoshi not Koshi. Hoshi is Japanese for star. Kiana posted character profiles for Aika, Zira, Hoshi, Eclipse, Miss, and the villain Lady DeVoid https://x.com/kianamaiart/status/1897874861445595663

Vex Valor

Wasn't expecting a reaction to this, but I'm glad you did because it's really cute!

Bailey

From what I've heard, the "pilot" was originally made more as a stand-alone challenge project rather than something with concrete plans for a series, but the creator has expressed interest in doing more with the story, especially after all the positive attention it's been getting

Andy

Creator Kiana Khansmith has made NO secret of wanting this to be a queer story. Seriously, follow her on Bluesky (kianamai.bsky.social) for cute little comics and art happening off screen. Of the 6 main characters presented here (Aika, Zira, Hoshi, Miss, Eclipse, and Lady Devoid), Kiana has confirmed 3 are LGBTQIA+. We knew you'd love it! And I'm glad you picked up on Zira looking at Aika during the credits. Pair that with the song. Sounds like she's shopping this out in the hopes of landing a deal. I know I'm responsible for more than a handful of those 2.5 million views! IT'S SO GOOD! (Additionally, I started following Kiana when she was releasing her HanaMusa comics. An adorable little sapphic love story between Jessie (25) and Ash's mom Delia (29) from the Pokémon franchise. One more reason to follow her!)

Joey Quixote

And yes, the Creator Kiana Khansmith has said Aika and Zira are a thing. :)

FullmetalNinja25

So many magical battles could be shortened with the use of a lead pipe.

David Johnson

Yes Elijah! Glad you love this, because I do. Hope this becomes a series, because I think we all need more. Dana Terrace certainly does. 🤩🥳🌈💜

Liam Gradwell

Was soooo hoping you’d react to this. Absolutely hope this becomes a full on show

The Akimbo Knight

The sudden jump in Animation when Aika beats the shit out of Eclipse with a pipe is what's known as a "Vertical Slice", basically a "proof of concept" reel.
