RWBY - Vol. 4 Ep. 2 - Reaction (Full)

Comments

Klein is actually based on the seven dwarves from Snow White. "Klein" is German meaning small, like a dwarf.

Leon Lesser

I am describing and quoting exactly the way the person asking the question had described it from the panel. Their words, not mine. It's probably best to watch the video I provided since I didn't get this information out of thin air. Miles then says, "Yes." Miles exact words were, "Every time his eyes change color, it's a new personality. "

Mare

When considering Weiss's butler. Think of the 7 dwarves personalities and it makes sense for him. Each time he shifts to another one, his eyes change color.

DruncleQrow

The song for this show’s opener was written by Jeff as motivation for CRWBY to help keep moving forward after Monty’s passing… Listen the lyrics again and you could easily substitute Pyrrha or Monty as to who he’s referencing … Jeff is great about weaving that type of thing

LiminalEulipion

When describing climb you shouldn't use the word personality since the term multiple personality disorder Is incorrect to use The correct Term would be identity

Oscar_Pines_Is_Bestboi

I understand your choice to watch the episodes 1 by 1, but highly recommend pairing some of them up. Trust me when I say an episode will end and you will absolutely have to jump to the next one. Plus, it will help with remembering what happened previously in other episodes when watching them more closely together. And certain episodes will have more of an effect when watching if you pair them up, since things might dry up a little here and there.

Casey McGarrey

I had to go listen to Forever Fall after watching this reaction lol

Hollyhock

Co-creator Miles Luna has stated that Klein has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and while i don't have DID i do have another stigmatized mental health condition. Yet, Klein is just a lovely guy, and as such he's very special to me ❤ So often characters like this are portrayed as evil

Hollyhock

Phoenix, since the previous poster's message was deleted, I'll answer here. Yes, Klein has Disassociative Disorder, as confirmed by Miles Luna at RTX London 2017. Miles also pointed out that it was part of his semblance too. (Here's the video with Miles answering that question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBLOmSVTG7Y&t=1153s)

Mare

According to Miles Luna, Klein does have multiple personalities but it's also his semblance as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBLOmSVTG7Y&t=1153s

Mare

“I’m surprised it’s not Jaune having these nightmares, it’s Ruby.” I mean, Ruby did WITNESS her death right in front of her.

Janice Marie

So since you where Confused elijah Klein nay have DID Dissociative identity Disorder he has seven Identities Because he is based off of the seven dwarfs but most people believe he does have did

Oscar_Pines_Is_Bestboi

Fun (?) little detail on the final scene with Ruby, Jaune, and Pyrrha. For Volumes 1-3. the show was animated using a program called Poser. For Volume 4 onward, they started using a program called Maya, hence the huge jump in animation quality. Everyone has brand new Maya models, however, when you watch Jaune's video of Pyrrha, it's clear that it's still the old Poser model in use. Feels unintentionally symbolic of the fact that, while everyone else got to grow up and move on, she'll never be able to

Kris Grimsley

Welcome the the warm and comfy home of the ever loving Schnees. As others said, Klein is the seven dwarfs. Whitley is... someone a large number of the FNDM have wanted to punch, though he does have reasons for his attitude as we find out. Not the greatest of reasons, but they are reasons. In case you were wondering on Whitley, he is (probably) based off of Kai in the Snow Queen fairy tale. (I have never heard it confirmed by RT but it fits.)

Arashi

Unfortunately, this seems to be a long-standing issue within the FNDM. I have seen reactors who were watching an episode within a day or two of its premiere, who still had to preface their reactions by saying they were spoiled for a particular moment because they just happened to go on social media that morning and people were already posting screenshots out in the clear.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Thank you! The good news is the actual event has turned out less severe than experts predicted - even if there's a chance it'll still get worse

Rye-Ah

while I respect your decision to go to one ep a week, I wish you would do two. Vol 4 is good, I get why people dislike it, but I enjoyed it all the same. That being said it's probably the slowest vol in the series for me, other than maybe 5. you gotta do you, but I can't wait for you to get through this vol. next weeks ep is gonna be a treat

bloodyshadow1

You bringing up the Mulan connection to them arriving at the ruined village really connected some dots in my brain, because Ren- who gets a big moment in this episode- is BASED ON MULAN. I'm starting to think that was a deliberate allusion on the part of CRWBY.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

16:45 Klein is the German word for 'small'. Also, you've been introduced to Weiss's younger brother, Shitley...I'm sorry Whitley.

Jason S

so happy to see such hype for where the story is going, and it's only getting better! (I keep saying over and over cuz it's true) yes, Klein is the dwarves to Weiss's Snow White allusion. helps to know German in this case - Weiss Schnee = Snow White ;D Ren has some fun development coming later, that's all I will say. I LOL'd at the skepticism directed toward Whitley. rather understandable, and I completely agree about Winter being 'better' >.> also very good observation about all the women in the Schnee family being miserable, as time will show... I'm so eager for the reaction to the next episode hehe

Cinder's Apologist

So the problem with the Dust embargo is that Dust is the main resource in how other Kingdoms defend themselves from dangers, including Grimm. Not to mention Dust is used to power everyone’s cars and electric and heating. Dust is the universal power grid for the world of Remnant. So Ironwood ordering an embargo could potentially cause so many issues for the rest of the world if they run out of Dust. Whitley is in fact the youngest of the Schnees. Klein is the Seven Dwarves to Weiss’ Snow White. Each eye color is a different dwarf. We just saw Doc, Grumpy, Sneezy, and Happy - indicated by each different eye color. The whole reason RNJR was going to Shion in the first place was because they had an air ship they could hopefully catch a ride on so they could get to Mistral faster. I like the subtle detail that you can see the demolished ship in the background once they find the Huntsman. I’ve always loved that shot of Ruby walking at night with the fireflies right before discovering Jaune. Absolutely gorgeous and to think the series only gets more beautiful from here. That final scene was just rude, CRWBY!!!

BGTitan

Dam it, all these years later and I still cry when the recording appears. We'll always miss her

Alexis Cardillo

so with Klein - his full name, in the credits, is Klein Sieben, which is German for 'Little Seven', paired with Weiss Schnee ('White Snow'), he's based on the Seven Dwarves, with each alter corresponding to a different eye colour change. On the point of Jekyll and Hyde - the book that Blake is reading when she meets RWY in volume 1, The Man with Two Souls, is the Remnant version of the book, with the text in the book being a direct excerpt from the original novella.

Sir_Adamus

Dunno if it'd work but wondering if clipping that small section(of saying how spoiling reactors is bs for both sides) and sharing it as a link to remind people cz it feels like so many are just ignoring it when it's "just" text

Phoenix Mackenzie

He is the 7 dwarfs, he doesn't have DID if that's your HC that's fine just please don't state it as fact

Phoenix Mackenzie

Klein is based on the 7 dwarfs of snow white (weiss's fairytale inspiration)

Potato

Once again Rooster Teeth really knows how to twist the knife in your heart! That end scene with Jaune almost always brings tears to my eyes! Just a heads up, volume 4 will probably feel a bit different from the previous ones. Because most of the characters are split up, so each episode will only focus on one or two characters. Personally volume 4 isn't on my favorite list. But it definitely has some great moments. I'm really excited for the next two episodes in particular. Love how invested you are into the show, and into the fandom. ❤️🤍🖤💛

Bryan Forquer

I've seen some mention of this before, but just to reiterate: for the first episode of every volume, the intro is shown at the end of the episode as an outro. That way it doesn't spoil all the new things that get introduced before the episode and also acts as a sort of "sizzle reel" for the rest of the season. Though there is a new intro for each volume, it doesn't change episode to episode (until V9). So it's safe to skip it once you've seen it once. In volume 9 there are small changes to it as the season progresses. As an aside, I know you mentioned that sometimes the episodes you have access to don't include the intros and that you might revisit them at the end to do a reaction. But I think the only one you haven't seen so far is volume 2's. I highly recommend maybe taking a quick look at it on YT or something while the season is relatively fresh in your mind. Personally V2 is my favorite of all the intros and I'm hoping you might enjoy it as well.

Mochi

Jaune, to be honest, this is kinda the first time I liked his character. That, and wearing the dress during the prom! LOL

Globe Blotter

I'm not at all surprised at your appreciation for the animation, your curiosity about the characters, and your connection to the show. One of the many things I like about volumes 1-3 is what they get used to set up for volume 4 (and onward) and it's gonna be great to see your enjoyment of it in the coming weeks. I'm so excited for your reaction to next chapter.

pneuma163

Oscar_Pines_Is_Bestboi

Klein is just the ray of sunshine in Wiess' VERY messed up family... in every possibly way imaginable. We love Klein.❤️❄️

LikeCat

[MOD] Hey everyone! Remember to keep the comments free of any spoilers of future episodes for Elijah. Also, make sure we’re keeping the comments cool & comfortable for everyone here. Enjoy the reaction y’all!!!

Sam

She'll do it once done with V9 maybe.

BrightHeart

[Mod] I'm coming to you guys with this because I recently watched a video where Mortius got spoiled on something super cool in an Epic Musical animatic reaction, and thus he was not able to fully be excited about it when the actual thing happened in a video. He basically lectured his audience about why spoiling something even super tiny not only ruins the reactor's experience, but also the audience who supports and watches said reactions.

Spywi

[Mod] Hey all. Quick reminder, because some folks STILL need it, apparently: REMEMBER, DON'T POST SPOILERS ON PATREON/VIMEO. Nothing too bad that I've seen has happened recently, but some of y'all have not really been subtle with your "hints". Remember that the mods are always watching I realize y'all are excited for Elijah to watch RWBY, but do not ruin future reactions for the rest of us that come here to see a *first-time reaction*.

Spywi

I always appreciate how transparent Elijah is about her decision making when it comes to content (how and why certain shows get picked or dropped, how many episodes per reaction, etc) That scene with Pyrrha is so heart breaking! And yeah this season is when we get a lot of missing info about our characters filled in, which is probably one of the reasons I love it so much. That Schnee family tension though

Jittercritter

You gotta react to RWBY Chibi soon. Trust, you'll love it.

SPIDERVERSE 2000

About your second point... Yeah, we know.😳❄️

LikeCat

The outro of episode 1 in every volume is the full version of the opening theme and then after, a shortened version plays in each episode.

Vex Valor

The first chapter of each volume puts the opening theme at the end end of the episode, to avoid spoilers for that episode. you will want to watch the volume 9 intro on both chapters 1 & 6

Zero Blazer

Short episode so not a ton to say that other people aren't already saying but here's what I've got this time: - I've rewatched this show so many times but I only realized last episode that there's a raven flying past Qrow in the opening lmao. - "I'm more of a warrior's wolf tail kind of guy" oh we know - I love the redirect here with Jacques and Ironwood. It's so easy to ignore the obvious signs of him being a paranoid control freak who holds way too much power because we have Jacques being comedically villainous. - They go so hard with the Snow White allusions for Weiss. - Ik they used Pyrrha's Poser model for budget reasons but the animation contrast really brings it home that the days of Beacon are long gone.

Kiesen

Whitley is usually estimated to be around 14-15 or so. Also you're not alone on having immediate trust issues with him; when this chapter dropped, 90% of the fanbase was like "Idk about this kid" lol. Klein is based off the Seven Dwarves (keeping up Weiss's theme of being based on Snow White). As such, he has seven different personalities based on each dwarf and it's indicated by the eye-color change.

Nektis Noir

Back during volume 1, I left a comment saying that you originally guessing Weiss' name was Whitney would be funny in hindsight, and here's why: her brother's name is only one letter apart from that. Oh, and Klein is based on the Seven Dwarves from Snow White, given that he's short, is a friend to Weiss (who's based on Snow White), and his personalities are the same ones as the dwarves. Here we saw Grumpy, Sneezy and Happy show up briefly.

Flufux

We were not kidding when some of us said that you should watch Chibi. These Roosterteeth sadists love twisting the knife that they stabbed us with at the end of volume 3. The end of this episode destroys me every time I watch it. You know he does this every night.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

A fascinating detail to me is that the video of Pyrrha is still rendered in Poser (the software used for volumes 1-3), which was what Monty Oum worked best in. Like the opening song for the volume, it's another way CRWBY is using the characters' grief over losing her as a metaphor for their grief over losing him.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Stay safe.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Whenever I hear that music, I can't help but tear up since it's Pyrra's theme

Martin E Melcher

I think Whitley might be around 13-14. Definitely the younger brother. And kinda like a reflection of what Weiss would have been like had she stayed at Atlas and not went to Beacon in Vale.

Brandon Dodge

Whitley is I think the same age as Ruby, and is an annoyance more than a villain. But Jacques kept him close after I think disowning Winter as heiress. And he’s been alone with his father since his sisters left. He’s just as much of a victim as Weiss is but in a different way. He is a little shit though. Fandom called him Shitley for a while

jessie H

Yes! I love your RWBY reactions so much! ❤️🤍🖤💛 Please don’t forget to watch the shorts as you go through the series, and maybe listen and watch the intro since it foreshadows the volume (if you want ofc). BTW when a volume starts, they put the intro at the ending of the first episode so as to not spoil your first reaction to the volume, and after that they switch it to the beginning of each episode of the rest of the volume, so just wanted to let you know. Can’t wait to see the rest! 😍🤩

song sl

Not really a RWBY reaction watcher personally, but there's a natural disaster going on outside my house and any Elijah reaction is a good enough distraction for me

Rye-Ah

Throwback to the white trailer when you guessed Weiss’ name was Whitney so close for the wrong schneebling Whitley is an… interesting character. To put things into perspective he’s only 14 and has been on his own with Dust Bezos … I mean Jacques who we know is abusive and their mom and all we know about her rn is that she looked miserable in the family portrait as well and as described by Whitley she was “already drinking in the garden” the schneeblings are representative of fight (Weiss) flight (Winter) and fawn (Whitley) I still cry during Jaune’s Sad Training Time. Pyrrha’s leitmotif playing in the back is already a shot to the heart but just thinking about how many times he must’ve watched that video is oof… My boy is Not coping 😭 which reminds me Nora’s new outfit now has a slash through the heart (where cinder shot Pyrrha) and the armbands Ren has in his new outfit match the wave pattern on Pyrrha’s shield 🥲 Next episode has something I’m very very much looking forward to 👀

Rachel Mae

That scene is always going to be heartbreaking to watch. Ruby and Jaunes shared pain, the words Pyrrha never got to say because she held herself back... She will always be loved and remembered.

Verdant Crown

Klein is the representation of the 7 dwarves. And Weiss would be Snow White (Weiss Schnee). So he technically has seven personalities and the switch is reflected in his eyes.

Miss_CJ

so the servant's name is Klein Seiben! he's based on the seven dwarfs from Snow White

Rain

Yup they just wanted to remind us that she is dead. Just twist that damn knife in our hearts why don't you

The Laughing Man

Klein Sieben means Little Seven in german. So he is based on the seven dwarfes.

Dreanner95

The ending of this chapter always gets me, dude 😭😭
