Elijah is so adorable. even when she reads into everything way too much XD *sees a statue of a hooded person* "IS THAT RUBY'S MOM?!"

Gavin Bickel

Move Onward Not There Yet Took me *so long* to get this one.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Dafydd, they mentioned Jen Brown's other character, "Lisa Lavendar." You missed the OP's line "....it's just not Salem."

Mare

Tyrian is based off of the Russian tale "The Scorpion and the Frog." Kind of fits, given the end of that tale. As for Blake's father's height, it's very "anime tropish" with the typical Burly father and average sized daughters. Sort of like Thors Snorresson from Vinland Saga (He looks a bit like Ghira) or Jurkai from Dororo (his son is pretty average though Jukai himself looks like a 'Ghira' too). Now that I think about it, Ghira is really a trope in both looks and personality. Thankfully they didn't make Kali tiny like their usual counterparts in the trope.

Mare

Yup like in the Intro where leaves blow through the gap

Phoenix Mackenzie

I'm always a bit anxious when people react to the switch in animation, i'm glad you like it! I was also a bit worried you might be havibg a tough time with the rwby fandom, concidering people often get so excited they start spoiling left and right... i'm glad to hear you've been having good experiences with us as well! The rwby fandom is VERY passionate, to a fault haha.

Hollyhock

Pyrrha's VA does do a little bit more voice work for the show, but more then that is hitting spoiler zone so I'll just say keep the tissue box near on the off chance.

Arashi

Well, someone seems to have forgotten that Jaune's shield was always the sheath for his sword. It's okay, it didn't get mentioned after Jaundice part 1 way back in volume 1. Volume 4's animation jump was not totally just a skill/budget/personnel up. The CRWBY started using Maya software this volume as well. As things sit for now, every three volumes of RWBY is an arc. Volume 1-3: The Beacon Arc. Volume 4-6: Haven Arc, Volume 7 & 8 is the Atlas Arc with 9 being sort of the odd duck out as a 'stand alone' or a bridging arc. Run times for the episodes will generally be in the ~15 min per episode (give or take up to 3 minutes) this volume so 2 per video could still be manageable for this one, but episode runtimes drift up to solidly 15+ for the rest of the Haven arc.

Arashi

Not really, and at most, it's an easy matter to not look at the thumbnails by just starting with the first video and not going all the way.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Great reaction! The shift to Maya plus the budget changes really made a big difference in the show. As others have noted the episodes don't actually change that much in length so 2 episodes per reaction is still probably the best way to go aside for the odd longer episode. Especially with the multiple story lines going on between seasons 4 and 5 watching multiple episodes per week will help a lot with keeping all the plot points in mind and I'm sure it will make for a much better first time viewing experience.

Anthony

Loved the reaction and the enthusiasm towards the new animation, but I'm so worried when she watches things on youtube. Those recommendations at the end of each video could so easily have spoilery thumbnails, it takes a second to risk ruining the whole experience.

Isadora

I don't comment on videos a lot but you mentioned 2 things near the start and I just had to say something nice back. (I'll copypaste this on the YT side whenever this video releases for the algo) You mentioned about the animation getting better and yeah, it's one of my favorite parts of RWBY too. I LOVE watching artists/teams of artists get better in their craft over time. It's why (alongside the music and characters) RWBY is one of my favorite cartoons, Symphogear is one of my favorite anime, and why my favorite web comic is one that's been running for over 20 years. It's so inspirational to see where an artists starts AND where they end up as they keep practicing. It inspires me to keep trying my art every time I watch it. This was the season where I found RWBY in the first place - I vividly remember a friend begging me to check this show out, and fell in love with it as I got caught up on seasons 1-3. By the time I did, this season was halfway over, but I was able to watch the rest live. I've had some bumps in the road with RWBY since (I think at one point I missed a season by accident because I was so busy) but overall it's been nothing but enjoyable. I'm so thrilled at how much you love this show, I'm thrilled that this seems to be revitalizing the RWBY FNDM in some small way. Your reactions are a treasure and I can't wait to see what you think of the rest.

BeastialMoon

There are future Spoilers in the thumbnails of those videos.

James Long

If you're getting more and more into RWBY, there's a pretty interesting spinoff show called World of Remnant that, for one thing, explains why so many characters walk off such debilitating injuries. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2vBnPCQT4WJY7wlcNZgKjZGvGF-R0yCE

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I'd recommend sticking with 2 episodes per reaction for the most part. RWBY episodes don't actually get longer - there are just a few specific episodes that are longer (I'm ignoring intro/credits). For example there are plenty of episodes in recent volumes that are 13-15 minutes long. Also specific to volume 4 I suspect that sticking with 2 episodes will help youtube viewership because of how the pacing differs. (edit: and I say this as someone who is a very big fan of volume 4)

pneuma163

Also, to make the whole integrating Pyrrha’s headpiece into his sword and shield scene EVEN WORSE, Jaune’s wearing her sash around his waist, or at the very least, a red scarf around his waist in the same way Pyrrha wore her sash.

Janice Marie

god I am loving the hype so much. it's always been great but so thrilled to see this excitement for the story right after the TRAUMA that is volume 3 XD and it just keeps getting better! also so valid regarding some of the new faces. I won't say more but it's really going to be fun ;D

Cinder's Apologist

To give you an idea of when Volume 4 is taking place, the initial estimate the crew gave was 6-8 months after V3. That was retconned a bit but the idea is that Volume 4 takes place during spring up to early summer. Volume 3 ended in the middle of winter so it's definitely been roughly 4 months or so.

Nektis Noir

V5 wasn't the result of animators and writers being rushed. That was the result of a specific lack of budget for that Volume (mostly due in part to Gray Haddock taking most funds for RT Animation at the time to fund his show Gen: LOCK) so they had to scale back some aspects and push some story elements they wanted to do to future volumes.

Nektis Noir

They didn't say that, Corgi. In fact, Dafydd literally said Jen Brown's other character wasn't Salem. I don't think you read that comment correctly.

Nektis Noir

To clarify something, when Salem says "It is because of the maiden's power", she's not referring to the power of the Fall Maiden. It's awkwardly phrased but she's referring to specifically Cinder and a "power" she has that no one else does. The full details of that power are not yet given here but without spoiling, I can say it's partly tied to the Grimm bug Cinder fused with to absorb the maiden power (hence why Rubys eyes affected her as her powers have a negative effect on Grimm)

Nektis Noir

(NOT A SPOILER) Clarifying this because it’s honestly not explained much but the reason why Cinder specifically is weak against Ruby’s silver eyes (which kill grimm) is bc when she attacked Amber (previous Fall maiden) she used a grimm bug (it was a scarab like inside her arm) to steal the maidens power, and so Ruby’s power detected that and hurt her the same way it would hurt a normal grimm (the eye she lost is on the same side of her body the bug was,,)

Dayash

Ahh season 4 always feels like it's the longest to me so this will be a long wait :'D

Meganclare7

time for a heartbreaking fact! any time from now on that jaune nora and ren are alone on screen together, there is a space where one more person could have been standing

Aren Seitel

If you check the Trello, she's already filmed the next episode and its usually every friday at 1pm GMT. Though its a shame she;s moving to a 1 episode a week instead of 2.

BrightHeart

So anyone know when the next episode is scheduled to release, please ?

Meganclare7

👏🏻BEST👏🏻BOY

Janice Marie

Yes, so glad you're starting volume 4! Episodes 3 and 4 are some of my favorite episodes of this volume, so I can't wait to see you watch those. After volume 3, Rooster Teeth switched to a new animation software called Maya, I think it is definitely an improvement over the last 3 volumes, plus I think the animation honestly gets better with each volume! We do see a couple new characters introduced in this episode, but don't worry. We will get backstory on them as the episodes continue. So excited to see you continue this volume! ❤️🤍🖤💛

Bryan Forquer

Fun fact That rock monster is the same grimm species as the white trailer its a type of grimm that possessed inanimate objects in white it possessed a suit of Armor in this its possessing rocks

demonic-myst

I love how much appreciation you showed for the improved animation!! I love how much this volume expands the world and populates it with a ton of new characters and content. A lot of people complain that this volume is slow but I don’t think they appreciate how much worldbuilding this volume does. I love ensemble casts and this season is when Ruby transitions into that style, with Ren, Jaune, and Nora being moved up to main character status along with the four girls and the introduction of a huge supporting cast. The world feels very populated and interesting from here on out, which I love

Jittercritter

Great reaction! I’m so happy that you decided to continue through with the rest of the show! Most people tend to drop off after vol 3 because they realized that the show wasn’t afraid to go to darker places. I just wanted to let you know that everything we see happening with the different members of team RWBY are actually happening at different times. Blake’s story starts a few days after the fall of Beacon. Weiss’ story starts two weeks after the fall of Beacon Rudy’s story starts two months after the fall of Beacon And Yang’s story is the most recent story. I just wanted you to know that and keep that in mind since it really confused the fndm for a long time.

Kayci Richards

Volume 4 might have my favorite OP of all time. With the whole thing of it mimicking Monty's mentality of "Keep moving forward" and the ending lines Move Onward Not There Yet so let's just live.

Alex Norton

The length of episodes is still around 15 minutes overall, so I still recommend doing 2 at a time for the most part. Episode 8 of Volume 4 is about 20 minutes, so that can be its own video.

James Long

It's the BOI!

Kris Grimsley

Oooh wait. Track 7 on the volume 4 soundtrack is a must when you have a spare 3 minutes and 20 seconds 👍

Rachel Mae

Alright. The first gauntlet has been passed. Getting through the first three volumes of RWBY has always seemed like a right of passage. Your reactions have been absolutely amazing, and so refreshing. I always love someone experiencing RWBY for the first time with fresh eyes. Volume 4 is where things just seem to hit harder. Now that we have to live with the losses experienced by the end of the last volume. I’m excited to see how you experience it. 🌹❄️🐈‍⬛🌻

RenaissanceM

They aren't the same voice actor... While they do share a first name, Jen Brown voiced Pyrrha and Jen Taylor (Cortana in Halo) voiced Salem.

CorgiSnapz

Has she not realized that it’s the opening always at the end of each first episode cause she still calling it end credits

ANIMEMUSE

Splitting these up in two because the short is a bit separate from the first episode: - The Red Trailer homages!!! People might call it cheap or cheesy, but it feels like it appreciates where RWBY began while still progressing it forward. The timing is apt too as it marks the transition into a new era for the series. - It's funny seeing some of these moves Ruby uses like the three-split petal burst because we wouldn't see them again for awhile. I tend to forget they were even used this far back because of how this is spaced away from the rest of the show. -------- - Not gonna lie, V4 is my least favorite season. I don't hate it but it's definitely... rough. I think y'all know what I mean. - I'm so sad Cinder doesn't really speak this volume. But don't worry you can't shut her up forever. - Forever in love with the allusions of all the villains. Fairy tales/myths/classics twisted somewhere along the way. But then there's Tyrian. What does that tell us about him? - "It's because of the maiden's power" - they never really elaborate on this? My best guess is that Cinder is vulnerable (and only partially) because of how she stole a portion of the power. Makes me wonder if the artificial transfer with Pyrrha went through if she would've also been vulnerable to silver eyes or if it only applies to Cinder because she used grimm? - "I have a feeling that mustache bro is so gonna die and I think Cinder is going to be the one to fucking kill him at some point." - Why did Lindsay pitch their voice higher??? - God I love the geist. It's one of my favorite grimm (probably fourth overall). - Ruby doing that petal burst fusion with Nora but not realizing her semblance is more than just speed - Yowling and clawing the paint off the wall over Pyrrha's crown being melded into Jaune's shield - RWBY's weapons are so unfairly cool. And they so often use magnets!! Which is so underutilized in weapon design when it's SO useful. - Lmao all the red leaving Weiss' design once she's separated from Ruby - The intro having Blake looking over to the left then immediately transitions into seeing Yang. Hmmm wonder why. - Why is Blake so average in height when her father is that freakishly tall??? (I know the real answer is because they designed her parents way after designing her but c'mon FNDM none of you ever address this).

Kiesen

We might be on the brink of an animation revelution if Dana Terrace's new project is a huge success. It would be cool if you could react to the Teaser of that show, which is prduced by GLITCH Productions

Henk Telle

You are correct that Pyrrha's voice actress also plays a different character in the show, it's just not Salem. It is, in fact, Lisa Lavender, the news anchor we saw a couple times in the first three volumes.

THE SON IS HERE

Janice Marie

Character Short: As for the short, our first look at the switch from them animating in Poser to Maya. Got to hand it to the crew, they had to build all the models from scratch, and I can’t imagine how much work went into that. But in the long run the switch was severely needed. Couldn’t imagine half the stuff they do now ever working out while using Poser. So, I will preface this with the fact that V4 is my least favorite volume of RWBY. There’s just a lot of specific things that don’t particularly work for me. However, there are a lot of good things which I’ll talk about as we go, I’m sure. For now, Episode 1: We’ve got a whole new group of characters, which for brevity I’ll call Team WTCH (Witch). Watts, Tyrian, Cinder, and Hazel under one big bad (I'm just gonna call her The Queen until you hear her name in show). They’re fun. Particularly love the detail that Watts doesn’t sit until The Queen does. Speaking of our big bad, I love that there’s an instrumental of Divide as she makes her entrance. Best song from V3. Loving the new designs for RNJR (Ranger). Particularly Ren’s. But I also think Nora’s is really cute. Love a good bomber jacket. The Gheist Grimm is something we have seen before. It was possessing a suit of armor in Weiss's trailer (the White Trailer) which was called an Armor Gigas. And another musical cue from V3 with Mirror Mirror part 2 playing when we see Weiss. As I mentioned, they switched from Poser to Maya between volumes and while that was indeed the right call, it does mean that they had to build everything from scratch, and thus there are some growing pains. Nothing big but just stuff I notice when I watch. But, even that improves with time so... eh. Like I said, growing pains.

BGTitan

Something that I noticed recently is that there are more RWBY fan content on tiktok since you started reacting to it. Pretty sure that you just reignited the fandom, or just more are finding out about RWBY are wanting to do RWBY things.

Jennifer Logan

Love it when Elijah loves an animated show for it’s story and it’s animation. They both make a lot of difference in enjoying it and like she said, her reactions really have the chance for fans of RWBY to fall in love with it all over again. So yeah, cannot wait for more. 🌹🥳

Liam Gradwell

Woke up early just to catch this. So excited for you to get into volume 4!

Hakori

Expect the pacing and story structure of the next volume or two to be a little different, as the team was still kind of finding their feet without Monty (esp v5 when production was often unfortunately being rushed by execs at a pace the writers and animators and stuff could barely keep up with, if I remember correctly), but still very good in my opinion! Lots of interesting character development, which is exactly what I love to see in my shows I would definitely double check the episode lengths before making the decision on whether to do 1 or 2 chapters per reaction though. They vary, and ep1 was one of the longest, I believe

Andy

I'm happy to see cute unnamed farmboy

Verdant Crown

A couple of little tidbits. The red sash around Jaune's waist is also from Pyrrha. There is a subtle tribute to Monty at the end of the opening song. The first letters of the lyrics, "Move onward. Not there yet" spell out "Monty". There was also something I had only just noticed about Blake in the intro, but I won't get into that until more of her story unfolds.

Jason S

Salem is played by Jen Taylor who is most known for playing Cortona in the Halo series

Maddie the witch

Cinder didn't inherit her powers naturally, but through the use of a Grimm that was presumably provided to her by Salem. Considering what Rubys powers did to Kevin, it's not strange that Cinder was affected as well because of what her powers are now tied to. That's what Salem meant by them also being a weakness.

Verdant Crown

I'd also point out that with V4 reactions in particular a lot of folks prefer to wait to watch episodes until decent chunks of them are out cuz of the way the volume is structured, which will impact viewer numbers *a lot* if it takes three months to get through the volume.

Wixher

The end credit scene is actually the new intro for volume 4! They always put the new one at the end of the first episode of the volume! Also the full version of Lets just Live is a bit sad but its such a good song imo!! Hope youre having lots of fun with V5 and I cant wait to see your reactions to the rest of the show!! (been literally waiting YEARS for that haha)

melini_29

There are still really short episodes of 12-15 minutes in the future, so I would recommend to still do 2 episodes per videos when it's the case.

Dani

ME TOO 😭😭😭

Janice Marie

The immediate love for our farm boy made me so happy

Rachel Mae

lol Jaune’s sword and shield always did that part of the upgrade was incorporating Pyrrha’s armor into his own. Which hurts even more if you think back to the speech she gave him in v1 when she unlocked his aura: Pyrrha: “For it is in passing that we achieve immortality. Through this, we become a paragon of virtue and glory to rise above all, infinite in distance and unbound by death. I release your soul and by my shoulder protect thee” She really always will be protecting him now 🥲 the Pyrrha pain is Forever I’m so glad you’re so hyped about the new volume and new animation! The animation only continues to get better. It really blows my mind to compare later volumes to where they started and seeing that improvement like you explained is one of the reasons I love rwby so much. Keep moving forward!

Rachel Mae

Fun fact: The one who voices Tyrian, AKA the creepy laughing guy among Salem's lackies, is non-binary. Their name is Jessie James Grelle and has commented that playing Tyrian was a fun change of pace from previous roles they had, now having quite fun playing a deranged and over the top lunatic.

Flufux

So the scary evil character you thought was Pyrrahs VA is actually voiced by Jen Taylor the voice of Cortana in HALO. Pyrrahs VA is Jen Brown.

Cody Jackson

so hear me out... salem

bloodyshadow1

You know you're obsessed with a reaction when you make sure to wake up at the exact time for the upload to watch it in full. That's how I feel about Elijah with RWBY.

dainbramage7

I will say, don't go to single-episode reactions wholesale, cause the episodes still vary. Next ep is only 14 min., with intro & credits. This series can be a bit tough to judge on, cause episode can be as long as 20 min. or as short as 12. This season can also be a bit frustrating if you don't group things up a little, cause RWBY is split up and on different missions. RIP to me during the 3 minute stretch where you were looking up what happened to Cinder's eye and I was here saying "Ruby. It's Ruby. Ruby did it. RUBY!" 😂 No judgment. Lot can get lost in the shuffle, especially cause they're still playing elusive with Ruby's whole silver-eye power. Also, as far as Sun goes, and I know you're gonna roll your eyes whenever he pops up in Blake's arc, cause the boy does have "obligatory male romantic counterpart" energy, but trust the process with him. I had much the same reservations, but he does become one of my favorite characters for how sweet he is.

{L} Frances

Literally me when I met him. MY SON

Janice Marie

He has not even spoke a word and Elijah is already on the ,,We must protect him at all cost" train. And I am SO HERE FOR IT.

LikeCat

WE GOT A NEW ONE BOYS!!!! SHE HAS MET BEST BOY!!!! AND SHE LOVES HIM ALREADY!!!! NEW COMING MEMBER OF THE PROTECTION SQUAD

Chapters 8 and 12 are the only other Episodes in Volume 4 that are 20 minutes or more.

The Main Villain (Who is based upon the Wicked Witch of the West) is played by Jen TAYLOR who is mostly known for playing Cortana in the Halo Video Games.

Salem: Jen Taylor, aka Cortana.

Next week is gonna be fun, she's gonna love episode 3. Can we just skip to next week already?

WOOO!

SauceyRed

This is the volume I'm excited to watch cause I watched a couple episodes than stopped

Kisuke01

Poser, which Monty knew alllll the tricks.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

Welcome going from Poser to Maya for animation.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

Indeed! Volumes 1-3 weren't even filmed on Animation software if I remember correctly, it was filmed on modelling software? I might be wrong. Also Ruby laughing at Jaun's hoodie having Pupkin Pete on it, when it was the cereal box that Pyrrha was on the box on... Harsh.

Outcast Spartan

Starting with Volume 4 RWBY switched from Poser 2013 to Autodesk Maya (Which is the same animation Fortiche Studios uses to animate Arcane).
