RWBY Fans!

Hey peeps! So I'll be filming my next RWBY reaction today, but I know there's other things I need to watch before starting Volume 4. Would it make sense to watch the Ruby short and then start the Chibi series? Or Should I just watch the short and then start Volume 4?

Let me know how important the Chibi episodes are for the story experience. If it's not that important, I will just start Volume 4 after the short then.

Thank you!

Comments

I would suggest the Vol. 4 Character short for an intro into the new animation and art style, then Vol. 4 actual. RWBY Chibi, although amazing and fun, can wait for a different series slot or after catching up on RWBY.

Rustic Randy

Definitely the Volume 4 character short then start of volume 4. Chibi is mostly just a palette cleanser with no hold in the main show. the World of Remnants would be cool to see too, as they give a little more lore to Remnant and it's inhabitants

Beatonen

Eh, I feel like there's some interesting material to respond to in WoR, especially the stuff about the history of the kingdoms and the Great War.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

I'd say it's pretty necessary. Elijah's had some confusion regarding how Aura and Semblances work in the past, especially given the appearance of Aura breaks post-V3. Might be a good thing to watch to help clear things up.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Absolutely, World of Remnant is pretty much essential for getting a full and complete picture of the, well, world of Remnant.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Soundtracks are very important

ANIMEMUSE

Would love to see the soundtracks.

ANIMEMUSE

There is one song in Volume 6 that (even if she listens to the full thing), she might not get the full picture for (references to IRL stuff)

LikeCat

Yeah I suggest it's up to you on the chibi maybe someday but it's optional, but I would watch the character short then vol 4, I hope someday you'll consider maybe doing the soundtracks because honestly it's some of the best personally 😊

LaviPastelQueen

Short then volume 4 cuz chino is just a comedy series

Nik Howler

Tough answer. I'll break ranks and say if you're interested at all in doing chibi instead of the show and not as additional, then you need to do it now. I don't want to get into spoilers, but Chibi doesn't quite work as well if viewed after the last few volumes.

Derek Gaschler

Shorts and then Vol. 4. Chibi is more of a detached series for comedy. If you're curious about the lore and background information around the world btw, RWBY also has a series of mini-videos called "World of Remnant" in case you haven't seen this floating around before.

Prae'

The chibi shorts have absolutely nothing to do with the story whatsoever. If you want to continue with the story, watch the ruby character short and go straight into volume 4

Casey McGarrey

RWBY Chibi is more of fun spin-off series that started after vol 3 while we waited for vol 4. Much needed after the heartbreak, but for the main series not required to watch to enjoy. I'm with the group that would prefer if you watched the Ruby character short and then get right into vol 4.

Alexis Cardillo

I really liked the Chibi episodes especially the first “season” I know they aren’t canon but it is a nice way to break from how rough season 3 was. Plus, it’s a nice cheery feel good time. Imo anyway

Scott

RWBY Chibi is a non-cannon spinoff series, but I do think your fans would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on the series.

Kelvin James Landon

The Ruby short is a VERY good into to Volume 4 and highly recommended as it gives you a sense of where the series is going to start at while not really being very long. You could probably knock the short and Ep1 out back to back easily enough but that's a recommendation not a request. Chibi...is Chibi...its a whole separate thing. Mostly its just a palate cleanse of wholesomeness after the trauma that is V3 but you don't need to watch it to understand anything in the actual main series going forward its very optional. That said a lot of the in-jokes make a bit more sense if V1-3 are fresh in your mind but its not needed. Honestly holding Chibi for a post series wind-down reaction might be better.

Cmdrwilkens

I would skip Chibi for now and just do the Ruby short then onto Volume 4. You can come back to Chibi somewhere down the line maybe after you've caught up to the series as they can they fun whenever you view them. As others have mentioned I do recommend you watching the World of Remnant videos so you have the information in them but they aren't worth doing a reaction too. Finally as others have mentioned I would highly recommend doing reactions to each OST. While they aren't technically canon they are so important to the plot and the characters that I personally don't think you're getting the whole show unless you understand them.

Anthony

Chibi is funny but I would personally prefer if you just moved on to the next season. I usually find myself drifting off when it comes to chibi reactions but I don't know if it's universal. You should watch the Ruby short, though. It's not long so just doing it before the episode should be fine.

Pyorgara

Chibi is good, silly fun but is not canon. it might be fun to do as a breather from all the stuff that happened in Volume 3 (which was its original purpose) but is not required. depends on how quickly you wish to continue following the main storyline

Cinder's Apologist

Chibi is a none cannon skit show its just comedy skits not story its like eatching tom and jerry but rwby

demonic-myst

The sooner you get to Chapters 10 and 12, my favorites of the entire series, the better :)

Celly

Definitely the Ruby short, the soundtracks, and then on to the season!! I personally only watched episode 1 of Chibi, it wasn’t really my thing—it’s just a cutesy comedy thing for entertainment and decompressing, it has nothing to do with the main plot. The soundtracks however are absolutely vital, you will be a bit lost without them. Considering their low budget and lack of experience, they relied HEAVILY on the soundtrack to fill in major character and backstory details in season 1 and 2, especially for Ruby and Weiss.

Jittercritter

Chibi is mainly just fun side stuff that doesn't really matter to the main plot. It was basically CRWBY's apology/therapy for how dark V3 got and for killing off 3 fan favorite characters in almost as many chapters in 1 volume. Ruby short then V4C1 is the more direct way to go if you're looking to march forward with the plot.

Mikayla

Totally agree with this. Soundtracks are so important to understand the characters better. To me they're pretty canon.

Geoffrey

I think Chibi and other RWBY extras are better left for when Elijah's caught up all the way. Cause... well, we waited quite a while between Vol. 8 & 9, and now between Vol. 9 & 10. Depending on how long the wait till Vol. 10 is, a comforting buffer there might be nice.

{L} Frances

Watch the short, you do not need to watch chibi. Chibi was a palette cleanser since Vol 3 was so dark for a show that up till then had mostly been lighter in tone and Monty's own passing. I would however highly highly HIGHLY suggest you react to the soundtracks of RWBY as they offer insight into the characters POV and histories. While they are technically non canon, every member of the FNDM will tell you... They are pretty much canon. If you are concerned with copyright from YouTube then make them Patreon exclusive. I can promise you people will sign up for those alone

Dominick Sermeno

Just watch the short and then start Volume 4. Chibi is funny, but it's just supplemental material.

Yannara Negre

Tbh just watch that one short then V4 is good to go

Arius

Chibi is fun but it’s not necessary to understanding the series at all. I vote that the Ruby Character Short and V4C1 are best one episode. Likewise, world of remnant are just there for additional lore if you want it. It’s not a big reactive thing.

Symbolic Remnant

Chibi is specifically non-canon nonessential and can be watched at any point after Volume 3 so it’s best to just watch the Ruby short and move on to Volume 4 :)

Dayash

the chibi series is fun, but it's non canon. It's mostly just them having fun with the characters without needing to be tied to the story

Bailey

I will say the Vale, Atlas, Mistral, and Vacuo shorts also aired before V4 so they should be safe. Everything after that aired during Volume 4 at specific times.

BGTitan

Happy that you've been enjoying the RWBY series, so I suggest that you have a watch of the RWBY shorts, called RWBY: World of Remnant, as it explains a bit more lore and history of Remnant, the 4 Kingdoms, Dust, Aura, the Creatures of Grimm, Faunus and much more, so watch that before getting started into Volume 4.While you're wanting a bit of a break from any drama that the show may drop on you, you can then watch RWBY Chibi, which is a lighthearted AU side of the series where "Nothing bad ever happens. EVER!"

Patrick Steele-Bodger

Chibi is great for character building, in my opinion it's worth it to watch before v4

Asd JuasJuas

I say watch the short an then get into volume 4

Oscar_Pines_Is_Bestboi

Chibi is definitely not canon, and therefore, not at all important to the story.

Zhanael

You can skip Chibi, as far as reactions go, but it is quite funny and worth watching on it's own if you don't feel like reacting to them. You can skip reactions for the World of Remnant vids, as they are basically just informational and don't really have much content to actually react to, but you should definitely watch them, as they are informational about the world. You very much should watch the character shorts when they come up, but recommend combining V4's with Chapter 1, since it's not that long. V5's three might could be a whole reaction episode on their own, if you think there's enough there to stand on their own. In any case, looking forwards to whatever you decide! =)

dune rat

Personally I'd say react to the character short before first episode, if you have time you should watch the World of Remnant videos but I don't know if they're great for reactions and save Chibi reactions for when you've finished with the main show. Also it might be best to skip the intro for V4 until about 4 or 5 episodes in, it has some small spoilers/character reveals for the upcoming volume. (it's at the end of the first episode and beginning of the rest).

bwp108

I didn't ask her to react to anything. She asked what makes sense to watch before V4. This is my recommendation.

Actualbampot

Chibi is fun. I think you would absolutely enjoy the heck out of it. But it is non canon. So however you want to do it should be fine. People who need to have all the lore love the "World of Remnant" shorts but honestly it's not necessary for all but the most minutiae obsessed fans.

AJ

To add to the chorus... Watch and react to the Volume 4 short and then watch and react to Volume 4 Chapters 1, 2, 3, etc. as expected. There are more shorts for V5, V6, and post-V9. I very strongly recommend you watch (and maybe for Patreon react to) the World of Remnant shorts so you can better understand lore that you will only get in part from the main show. RWBY has very short and focused episodes but the World of Remnant fills in information that you're assumed to have - each WoR short was released in time with various episodes of the main show. Remember the end of The Owl House season 1 when King has that voiceover reading the history of the Boiling Isles? It's kinda like that. It's info that you will find very helpful and is assumed knowledge for someone following the show. As a web series, RWBY intentionally engages with its audience in additional ways. Somewhat related to that point: skip Chibi. It has no bearing on the story or lore - it's on the level of animated fanfic. It's entertaining, mind you, but it's definitely not worth reacting to for youtube.

pneuma163

The Ruby short is pretty much essential, and I'd start the first few episodes of the World of Remnant series. If you could find a compilation of them it would be best bc the thumbnails have a pretty minor spoiler.

man-of-bvz1n3ss

Chibi is great, but ultimately not that important to the story. I would highly recommend watching the Short then starting Volume 4. Chibi is a fun little show meant to provide some fluffy comfort after the trauma of Volume 3 but it doesn't matter to the story.

Ko Villa

Chiming in with my two pence. Chibi is a fun AU side quest and would be a great palate cleanser after the emotional train wreck that is volume 3 but it has nothing to do with the canon story. I DO recommend watching the World of Remnant shorts though if you haven't already, they provide a wealth of world building, but you don't need to watch those before starting your volume 4 reactions, either. Only thing you really need to watch prior to that is the Ruby character short. I hope you watch the World of Remnant shorts and the Chibi series too, at some point, and I very much look forward to your volume 4 (and beyond) reactions! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤍🩷🩵🤎🖤

Eddie Murphy

Definitely watch the short, then start Volume 4. RWBY Chibi is non-canon. It isn't necessary to watch for continuity or plot. It's just a bunch of fun lighthearted skits that take the edge off the pain Volume 3 put us through. Still fun, but not essential.

Wolfie Hart

Well, many people have already said it but I'll add on. Chibi has zero relevance to anything. It is just a collection of fun little skits with Chibi versions of the characters and it was there originally to give people something more lighthearted after V3 finished. I recommend going straight to the V4 Character Short (which kind of works like a new addition to the OG trailers before V1 in a way) and then go to V4 proper. You should be able to fit the Short and Chapter 1 in the same vid because the Short is ....well, short. It's like maybe five minutes? And something else I've seen people mention: The World of Remnant info videos. I would recommend just checking those out in your own time. They explain more about the lore in the show that the main show didn't have the time/budget to spend on it or it just makes sense for people in this universe to know already. You've got ones for Aura, Dust, Grimm, Kingdoms, etc. I think there was twelve of these very short little vids that we'd gotten by the time V4 started back in the day. Although I would be wary of using the official playlist on the RWBY channel. For some unknown reason some of the later thumbnails now have spoilers even though those WOR vids came out long before that specific thing was ever in the show. I did find this video that seems to have all the WORs in it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGEmxMUe27A Stop at the 32:38 mark if you decide to check it out. The rest of it aired during V4 so probably best to save it.

BGTitan

Chibi is basically a little show that has the characters chibified and doing silly things with each other. It’s not canon at all to the story and was just a nice pallet cleanser CRWBY gave us after the tragedies of Volume 3. We just usually recommend it to reactors if they want to have a laugh in between volumes 3 and 4. The Volume 4 Ruby character short is canon to the overall story so it is important to watch before the start of Volume 4. It’s used with the new 3d modeling program Maya which they will be using to animate from here on out. Also some people have mentioned World of Remnant, it is a fun little info dump show that tells you bits of world lore like Aura, Grimm, the Kingdoms, etc. If you want to do that as a Patreon exclusive or watch it on your own that is completely fine.

Butterfly Warrior

Chibi is its own thing completely. People normally watch it if they need a break from the main show due to its humor. If anything you should watch the world of Remnant videos because they explain things in a more detailed manner of things that are important to the show. Like in the last season you asked what that weird glow was around Pyrrha when she got hit by Cinder and in the world of Remnant they explain what it was along with things like how aura works, sembalances, the faunus, even grimm and the different cultures between the kingdoms

Kayci Richards

The Ruby char short and then v4 skip chibi or wait till the end. The other three char shorts for Blake Weiss and Yang are after v4. I also saw a bunch of people mention the world of remnant videos. They do fill out some world lore and explain some stuff but I didn't even know they existed until after I had already finished v9 and you get all the lore that is in the WoR as part of the show anyway. I'd watch that on your own time or do a patreon vid if you really want and don't watch past the 4th? WoR if you do watch it they contain heavy spoilers later on and IMO aren't worth their own reactions. They are just exposition about background information to help watchers understand other stuff.

Jhaded

Skip Chibi. You can watch it at the end for funsies if you want, but it's totally unnecessary

Andy

The YouTube thumbnails for World of Remnant have big spoilers, so best to not watch those. They aren’t necessary anyway.

James Long

Ruby short then V4

Ashley Silver

A warning not a recommendation: Lottaaaaa people here mentioning World of Remnant (personally I think they’re better watched on your own time as they’re short and they fill in some wider lore of the rwby universe) but not mentioning the YouTube thumbnails for a couple of the later ones have a few minor spoilers in them and the thumbnail for the “Atlas” video has a Big Spoiler in it. Also be warned if you watch them on YouTube the outro thumbnail that shows the suggested next video has images from v9 as well

Rachel Mae

Definitely watch the v4 short then Volume 4

CorgiSnapz

Ruby character short is all you need to care about or watch, or also the World Of Remnant videos if you're super interested in the worldbuilding lore (which I am). Chibi does nothing for the plot and is just cute. ^_^

PrimalInfinity

Chibi has zero broad story relevance

Sweg Money

Chibi is like a pallet cleanser you can watch that whenever. The ruby short you need to watch before volume 4

Adionus

Watch "World of Remnant", definitely, then the v4 short. Skip Chibi.

Silvia Dragoness

RWBY Chibi is lighthearted and can be watched whenever, it is more to help balance out the drama of the main series. However, before starting Volume 4 I highly recommend watching the Ruby short and the first 8 episodes of World of Remnant for context. If you choose to watch Chibi, I would say only watch the first season. DO NOT watch RWBY Fairytales until after Volume 6, to avoid spoilers.

Cam02

I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t even know there was a short. You can just go straight into volume 4, chibi isn’t connected to the main series at all you can watch it anytime.

Amoore Lord

You can also react to this it just shows The VA for Yang is best sense of humor https://youtu.be/lKNmV4JCOo0?si=9xeksQn6ORhbNu2T

Chris Beach

Definitely watch the Ruby short before V4. Chibi can be watched whenever you feel like it tbh

Emily

RWBY Chibi can be watched whenever but the Ruby character short (and the world of remnant videos) should be watched before Volume 4.

Rocket

Chibi may be better to watch after watching the RWBY series. As it’s fun and meant to be lighthearted. The short should be watched before Vol 4, I will say you dont necessarily have to watch the World of Remnant but it’s not bad to watch for info on some things.

Kendra

Chibi is pretty much a different show which is cute and fun but definitely doesn’t need to be watched right away. Please check out the Vol. 4 character short though

Blair

I would watch the Ruby Character short 1st and if you can watch the World of Remnant then Volume 4. Chibi is fun and you can watch it whenever you want.

Karel Hill

So Chibi is lighthearted and is generally considered a “healing arc” for the community watch along experience (although it’s long so you might want to separate it into parts if you do watch it) but it’s not necessarily required WOR is world building flat out, and id say is arbitrary more important than it’s Chibi counterpart due to some very important details to the world and next season Do not watch fairytale until after v6 at the earliest, it contains major spoilers

Luna

I would say the Ruby character short, then MAYBE the World of Remnant shorts if you can find them, because they fill out the lore, then Volume 4. I wouldn't watch RWBY Chibi, it's not plot-relevant at all, it's just a fun little comedy-sketch show. Plus, Volume 4 immediately establishes some interesting plot stuff, so I can't wait to see you react to it 😃

Ben Disney

I agree, World of Remnant is better for her to watch in her own time if she wants the extra information, but it’d be really boring reaction material.

Mae

Rwby chibi is nice, But not ultimately critical, I would recommend doing the short then maybe chapter 1 of volume 4 together, maybe sprinkle in a chibi episode on the back or front of the volume 4 episodes of you want.

Hakori

Yeah, I really wanted her reaction to the Blake and Yang song. I don’t know if I should actually say the name of the song, but I’m sure you know which one I’m talking about. RWBY songs are a big part of the show and the lyrics are definitely good to listen too as they can certainly give a lot of insight on the characters. For example the ending song of volume 3 gives a lot of insight on Salem. There’s a good reason that so many RWBY reactors also react to the soundtrack.

Mae

I agree. RWBY Chibi can just be watched whenever you want to. Just a filler and something fun and lighthearted. It's not relevant to the story line. But, you definitely need to watch the RWBY short.

Shilo Vanderlinden

Short and the first season of chibi first...then volume 4... watch the first 3 volumes of world of Remnant videos as well.....if you can find them. It will help you better understand the world, their lore, and more. You do not have to react to them if you don't want to. Thise videos are more like homework

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

RWBY Chibi isn’t canon to the story or anything, so you don’t need to watch it. However, most of the episodes in volume 4 are 15 minutes and over so if you were going to do only one episode reactions then perhaps you could watch a chibi short before each episode reaction. The Chibi shorts are fun and while I’d love to see you react to them, I wouldn’t want you to delay watching volume 4 just to react to all the Chibi shorts.

Mae

RWBY Chibi is all filler, not necessary for story, I would watch the character short and then go into volume 4. There is a world of remnant series as well that explains more of the Lore of the world itself, not sure if you want to react to those but I highly recommend you watch them since they help fill in some of the gaps.

Brian Plante

Like others said, watch the Ruby short before Volume 4. Chibi is fun and very enjoyable but not plot relevant. Watch it whenever you want if you decide to. I would recommend the World of Remnant video series be watched, not necessarily reacted too if you don't want to. They're a couple minutes each and really help flesh out the world for you

Curtis Murphy

Not vital but definitely entertaining! Each volumes short displays their continuously evolving art style & choreography...basically, just enjoy! Chibi is it's own wonderful stand alone experience ⚘

CoffeeNCloves

I think it should be left up to personal preference if you watch chibi before or after you finish the series but you should react to the soundtracks after each volume and definitely watch the shorts before starting their corresponding volume

Caleb Jarvie

I did not know that. Kinda disappointed we won’t be able to see what she thinks of the songs. But glad she is listening to them

ANIMEMUSE

She's said she's been listening to the Soundtracks in her own time.

FullmetalNinja25

Like other people have suggested I’d say the Ruby character short and then volume 4 since chibi isn’t plot relevant it’s just for fun

Melisa Castro

I would react to the soundtracks and then the volume 4 short. Both are inportant and the soundtracks do add development to characters that’s noteworthy covered well in the show.

ANIMEMUSE

I dont feel the Worlds of Remnant are really that necessary to react to. If she wants extra lore bits its something to watch in her own time but not really great reaction material given all it is is are lore dumps.

BrightHeart

The Ruby character short first, then V4! Chibi is unimportant for plot reasons, but good fun overall. Also there are 3 character shorts prior to V5 (for the renaming 3 RWBY girls) that you should watch before you start V5, as well as a different character short before V6. The Blake character short is my fave! :D

Ray Knight

Start Volume 4 after the short Chibi is just a non-canon comedy spinoff released between Volumes as a palette cleanser for all the trauma ❤️

Nektis Noir

What I would recommend: Watch the World of Remnant episodes you've missed. They originally aired on 'off weeks' between Episodes during V2, V3 and V4. I'm pretty confident there is exposition in V2 and V3 you might have missed, as the WOR episodes reinforced the importance of a lot of plot points, and the impact of Cinder's overarching plans. Episodes range from 2 to 7 minutes. - Volume 2 World of Remnant Episodes: -Dust -Kingdoms -Grimm -Aura - Volume 3 World of Remnant Episodes: -Vytal Festival Tournament -Huntsmen -Cross Continental Transmit System -The Four Maidens - Volume 4 World of Remnant Episodes: -Vale -Mistral -Atlas -Vacuo -Between Kingdoms -Faunus -Schnee Dust Company -The Great War Then watch the Ruby character short before starting V4. Disclaimer: I don't remember if the V4 WOR episodes are spoiler-free or not. Worth getting someone to proof them.

Actualbampot

Yeah the shorts are really the only thing that are kind of important, Chbi can probably be saved until after you've finished with the series if you desire and the world of Remnant's are quite short and not really necessary reaction viewing as its just lore bits.

BrightHeart

Elijah can watch the WOR shorts in her own time, those videos aren't exactly views getters when it comes to Reactions.

FullmetalNinja25

Short then V4, Chibi is really fun, but not necessary

Luís Pacheco

V4 character short and then v4. The Chibi series is all in good fun, but it’s noncanon and doesn’t do anything plot-related. If you want to watch it, go for it, but you don’t need to to finish watching RWBY.

Lana

Then I think I know why I put them there, but I won't say why to be safe.

SauceyRed

Chibi is a fun little spin-off palate cleanser after the trauma of V3 but really not connected to the story, so it can be watched at your leisure. Going directly into V4 (with the character short first of course) is probably the way to go!

RedTheRoyal

Chibi is not essential AT ALL for Story, they are strictly comedic shorts Rooster Teeth released for RWBY content in-between Volumes. Ruby Short then start Volume 4.

FullmetalNinja25

The four kingdom ones came out one after the other in the lead up to V4, they're safe to watch first.

Wizzywod

The ruby short is important, being a little prologue to volume 4. So watch that before episode 1 Rwby chibi is not important, it's just some fun cute stuff that can be watched whenever you feel like. The only other kinda relevant things are the world of remnant videos, which can watch all of now since they all are a part of volumes 2-4 .They are just little lore videos explaining stuff like the kingdoms, the powers, the world, the faunus, etc. They are not crucial to watch, most people can follow the series fine without watching them but they are fun to watch imo.you can learn a lot of stuff like why the faunus are treated the way they are, or how aura and semblances work.

Octavia

No, no. Some of them came out during 5. I remember Faunus specifically

Wizzywod

By Volume 4 all spoilers are done with World of Remnant. They were coming out as part of Volumes 2, 3 and 4, so you were meant to have finished them all by the time you are watching V4

Sere

If you'd like to watch the World of Remnant videos, I'd say those come first, then the Ruby short, then V4. RWBY Chibi is random silly shorts essentially, sort of similar to those Disney ones (but obviously more interesting and funny), so those can be watched whenever. I would suggest watching (even if not reacting) to the World of Remnant videos, they're short and are really useful to you right now. To avoid spoilers, here are the ones you're safe watch now: - Dust - Kingdoms - Grimm - Aura - Vytal Festival Tournament - Huntsmen - Cross Continental Transmit System - The Four Maidens !!!BEWARE!!! Depending on where you get them, at least one of the thumbnails contains spoilers, so avoid looking at them if you can help it. This is the case with the ones on Rooster Teeth's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2vBnPCQT4WJY7wlcNZgKjZGvGF-R0yCE The thumbnails were originally fine, but after V6 or something they went back and changed them, in turn spoiling a couple things for new people, such as Salem's appearance. You may be able to watch the ones that are about the four kingdoms individually, but back when I made the list of which to watch when, I lumped them in the "after volume 4" list. Please other correct me on this.

SauceyRed

The short for V4 is very important, like the color trailers. Chibi, not so much. Chibi was basically Rooster Teeth’s apology for all the stuff that happened in Volume 3.

Janice Marie

Ruby short then V4! Chibi is completely non-canon and mainly just for fun.

Kiesen

The Ruby Short is important, the Shorts are just like the Color Trailers were before Volume 1, they're part of the actual story and should be watched in their proper order (Ruby before Volume 4, Weiss, Blake and Yang's shorts right before Volume 5, Adam's short right before Volume 6. Chibi is great, Chibi is hilarious and worth a watch, but it is NOT plot important at all. It's a side comedy show that came out after Volume 3's downer of an ending and is just all comedic short skits that have no bearing on the actual plot of the main show. Think RWBY Looney Tunes and that's what Chibi is. For the main show the Shorts are essential, Chibi is not.

Sere

The shorts are important for world lore, chibi is more lowstakes character fun. Chibi can be fully treated as a spin off that you can lump together and watch all at once after the current end of the series V9, as there's still no news on V10)

Deanie

Watch the short than V4. RWBY can be understood without the other media but the shorts are useful and chibi is just for funzies. Just lightheaded fluff to watch when things are too traumatic with the main series.

RoseBrassSarah

Short then V4. Although I would also recommend checking out the world of remnant shorts for some more world building

Leon Lesser

Shorts then 4 do chibi when you are up to date with the series

Sarah Stephens

The chibi series aren't important to the story at all! Basically, they made the chibi series to give us RWBY content while we wait for the main series! But after 2 seasons they stopped and just focused ln the main series.

Glitchy-Witchy

RWBY Chibi should be watched after the main series, so like everyone else, I suggest watching the shorts.

Sol-Edge

I've never watched the chibi series; I'll probably get round to it at some point, but it is, as everyone says, 100% optional. The World of Remnant episodes, however, are definitely worth your time to fill in worldbuilding that couldn't be naturally worked into the episodes.

General Tacticus

Chibi is cute and fun, but super optional. Has literally nothing to do with the actual show. Definitely recommend the short though, and probably World of Remnant too, at least on your own time. It clears up a lot about the setting.

R

Short then V4 would be the best

POTHIER Marie

All 16 episodes of World of Remnant should be okay to watch and spoiler free, but binging them all together might be a bit much. They're divided by volume release. Episodes 1-4 came out with volume 2, 5-8 came out with volume 3, and the rest came out with volume 4. Digesting it in four or more parts is probably best. They aren't long episodes so watching four at a time should be doable. The longest ones are less than 8 minutes and there's only two of those. I think you definitely want to watch them though before you get into volume 5 because they answer lore questions.

Ashtyn

since I am watching this along with you and watched a few chili compilations, yeah world of remnant and the volume 4 short before tackling v4 proper... chibi I would save as a palette cleanser cause it sounds like things go hard from here on out... looking forward to the journey with ya

Christopher Malone

as much as i'd love to watch ur reactions to rwby chibi, i understand if it might just take up ur time and energy as it is not necessarily essential to the rwby series, but just something to cheer us up from the depression that is the vol3 finale the shorts on the other hand are needed before starting vol4 <3

seraineity

Chibi is not necessary to watch to follow the story, I think it will be better if you watch it when you finish the show

Dani

I'd recommend all the World of Remnant videos. Then the Volume 4 Character Short. Then Volume 4. RWBY Chibi isn't as important, it's just a nice pallette cleanser after the darkness that was RWBY Volume 3 and can now be watched at anytime.

Brandon Dodge

I can only echo everyone else, skip Chibi for the time being because it adds nothing to the story, so watch the Ruby short then start V4. If you can also do the World of Remnant shorts, do those too because they add a fair bit of lore, maybe better to do those in your own time

Hi-Viz

The character short and probably World of Remnant videos would be a good idea to invest some time in, but Chibi is more of a fun side story that is not relevant to the plot at all.

EDHPlayer

You need to watch World of Remnant from Volumes 2 and 3. You were supposed to watch them with the show as you went on. Each one is 2-3 minutes so you can watch one every episode or two. But you can binge all of it including the volume 4 world of remnant. THEN finally watch The Volume 4 character short before starting volume 4z

Aaron Smith

Chibi is fun, but not essential to the story. It can be skipped. The Ruby Volume 4 short I would watch. The shorts add to the full RWBY experience of how the real-time viewers watched it when it came out. You can always watch the Chibi episodes afterward. Then for Volume 5, there are the Weiss, Blake, and Yang shorts. And then for Volume 6 there's another short, but I won't say what that is yet incase that's considered spoilers for now.

Cathy Breuer

The character short then start Volume 4. Chibi is not essential.

James Long

The chibi series is just non-canon comedy skits. Unrelated to the main show.

Omega

Chibi is like a separate series to the main cannon. So I’d say watch the character short then start volume 4.

Tarneercat1999

I would say the short and then Volume 4. Chibi can be done afterwards as it’s a bit more self-contained and not related to the story so much. Like lift filler fluffy things. So if you want some comforting, that’s Chibi. If you want lore and story, the short and the Volume 4. There’s also Word’s of Remnant which is also more lore

Xylia Allen

The Chibi episodes have nothing to do with the story. They’re just fun short episodes. I’d say eventually react to RWBY Chibi but story wise you don’t have to watch it right away.

Luis Longo

Chibi isn't important it's just a light hearted comedy sketch, good to watch when the show rips out your heart... The V4 RWBY trailer is pretty cool and does relate a little bit with the story, it's similar to the Red, White, Black and Yellow trailers in that it shows a bit about what the character is like and how they are feeling before the show (it's also Them Showing off their new Animation software)

Luke Teasdale

I’d say Chibi is a nice humorous break from the main canon plot, but it isn’t too essential to watch right away. I’ll go with whatever everyone else likes. 🌹

Liam Gradwell

At the very least, watch the character short. Chibi is nice, but not necessary to continue

Michael Blacklock

Chibi is fun light comedy, especially after V3.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

Chibi is good fun, but not at all story relevant, just short skits. This particular short isn’t hugely relevant but some of the later shorts are when you get to them 😃

Leanna

The ruby short before vol 4 is all u need to watch. I genuinely enjoyed chibi, bur would much rather u moved on. Though it is a fun watch it might be better to save it for after the series

bloodyshadow1

I’d watch the character short and ep 1 together. Chibi is fun, but not essential. But they are short. You could do 1-3 during recording sessions with main episodes. Or, do 4-6 together in a single video. I’m sure we wouldn’t object if they were Patreon exclusive or on YT.

Donovan "Ravenhull"

Watch the Ruby short then start volume 4. You should do RWBY chibi after volume 8. Trust me, that will be when you need it most.

Bryan Forquer

Chibi is not really important for the story at all. It's more or less just a fun series that is supposed to calm people down after the emotional trauma caused by Volume 3. It would totally be fine if you didn't watch it, you wouldn't miss out on anything essential to the story :). I still recommend watching it at some point, maybe even privately if you want to, just because it is a funny little extra series.

RobinWithHeart

Ruby short is nice. The Chibi series is its own thing that can only be watched after vplume 3 which you are at, it's mainly something wholesome to cheer up people after volume 3. It would be nice for tyou to react to them as they are really short, charming and comedic. But they aren't essential to the series.

Outcast Spartan

Totally watch Ruby’s short before volume 4! :D RWBY chibi doesn’t have any plot, it’s just short comedy eps. If you want to watch it then maybe only once you’re done with the series

Crow

The short is canon. Chibi is very much it's own thing though, it's not relevant or canon to the main story and if you were to watch it all before starting volume 4 it would disrupt the pacing quite a bit.

TakeOnLana

Shorts provide context more or less to go into volumes with a few more (kinda like you did the trailers before the show) So short and vokume 4 Rwby chibi is an entirely diffirent show almost like a little comedy parody snd is not canon it provides nothing importsnt besides being there judt for laughs

Potato

Chibi is mostly there as a palate cleanser after Volume 3, and has no direct bearing on Volume 4’s story. I would watch the Short then go onto Volume 4. Chibi could be nice for you to either watch on your own or maybe make a special episode out of

Haverian

RWBY Chibi isn’t important to the story line. It’s really there to help comfort fans after volume 3.

Madison

Chibi is completely separate(but was much needed at the time after the emotions of V3) not required but still a ton of fun, world of remnants are cannon however and do explain some stuff that's never/minimally explained within the actual show

Phoenix Mackenzie

The chibi series is basically a funny spinoff of the original. It's all funny jokes and bits with chibi versions of the characters, and has no connection to the lore at all. You can just watch the short, then start Volume 4. Super excited!

ProTrash

Chibi is a just a comedy spin-off they made for in-between seasons. You can watch them on your own time, they're legitimately fun, but they should really not take up reaction space. Just watch the V4 short (just the one, the others are for next Volume) then start the Volume proper.

Jonathan Morgan

Chibi is cute and I recommend watching but it can be saved till you've finished the main series, highly recommend the Ruby short though

Jessica

I'm pretty sure they're all spoiler free, but might be best to have someone double-check. Before volume 4 came out, that was when the four kingdom ones came out, so up to those is definitely safe.

Wizzywod

RWBY Chibi is NOT important for the story. It is basically a bunch of comedy shorts. Don't get me wrong, I love RWBY Chibi and I would love for you to react to it someday but personally I am more interested in you continuing the main story right now.

Dreanner95

So essentially, it's up to you.

Wilson Reeves

You should watch the Ruby short and then start volume four. RWBY Chibi is a non-canonical sketch comedy series, based on the first three volumes meant to be more lighthearted and goofy. As fun as it is it is of no actual importance to the actual series’ story

Sam

I’d say the short then Chibi. The first episodes of Chibi are very short. The Ruby short is important for Vol.4

jessie H

short then volume 4 chibi is not important to the main story

MAX

Chibi is its own show that has no story relevance.

Kyle Hennett

Chibi is not important. It's a comedy side series. The shorts are also optional

Wilson Reeves

It’s not important for the plot, just a cute little side show as far as I remember.

Jordan Williams

Short then Volume 4

Kyle Hennett

Chibi is entirely seperate! I'd say avoid it. Definitely watch World of Remnant though
