Roman's death is still so tragic to me. Not in a literary sense, but just in a story sense. He was my favorite antagonist, I loved his charm and the duo of him and Neo and I wish we'd gotten more time with him. Some would argue that there wasn't enough space for him in the story after this volume, but I disagree, I think they could've kept him around as a more minor recurring character or something.

Personally I liked it, it shows just how much Adam (is supposed to) outclass her and Blake in this fight. Because that's how this episode is. They're all outclassed, everyone. Ruby against Neo and Roman. Weiss, Velvet, and all the others against the hoard of grim and robots. Blake against Adam. No one is fighting to win, they're just fighting to survive. Having a drawn out fighting between Yang and Adam would have felt out of place in this situation. (Plus the time constraints, we already had an awesome fight sequence with Velvet and Ruby respectively, there just isn't time for a third one) It just sucks that they didn't build on that and made him seem so pathetic later on.

Not going to disagree with you, and I am being vague for spoiler reasons; but it happening this way does set up one of the best examples of storytelling through fight choreography that I have ever seen, several volumes later. Showing all the character growth between now and then put into practice. If we never fall down, then we can never learn to rise above it.

I will add that Aura also recovers slowly, so there can be instances of someone not having enough energy to do something at one point, but managing to do it one additional time later. Or tapping into deeper reserves of strength through a very anime-esque emotional outburst. Aura also requires concentration to maintain, so it is possible to break someone's concentration mid-fight or to take them unawares and harm them when they are vulnerable (like in their sleep) while technically they still have the energy to maintain an aura but not the focus. Your comment is also something to keep in mind when watching the White trailer: Weiss takes the hit from the Geist knight and starts bleeding, which would mean her aura was down. But she then uses her semblance repeatedly while notably not getting hit again. I read that as her putting all her remaining energy after getting cut into simply attacking and putting absolutely nothing into defense or healing after that. Basically risking everything she had left in a "do or die" situation. I find it interesting what that implies about her personality and dedication to her goals. The fact that she got a scar at all, implies that she didn't have any aura left to speed her recovery, and that the cut over her eye had started healing naturally first. So she was essentially completely empty after that fight for a short while at least.

I think it's also a good reminder for the audience that the Grimm aren't anybody's friends, and there are risks to both sides in purposefully drawing them into a fight. Since I think the last reminder we got was the Remnant board game scene in the library in Volume 2: Y- "You activated my Trap Card! Giant Nevermore!" R- "Whaaaa?" Y- "If I roll a seven or higher, Fatal Feathers will slice your airships in two." R- "But if you roll a six or lower, the Nevermore will turn on your own forces." Y- "That's just a risk I'm willing to take."

Yes, specifically it was a Beowolf Alpha that had downed an airship the previous episode. It is in the scene for a second or two climbing a building before Blake notices Adam. Alphas are just bigger spikier (and often smarter and stronger) versions of that species of Grimm.

I like it actually. Adam's semblance lets him redirect attacks via his weapon. Blake unintentionally charged it up and so he was able to use her own feelings against someone she loves. It's exactly why Blake feels so guilty and what makes Adam such a fraud

So a fun fact about how aura and semblances work in RWBY: but in order to use your semblance you still need to have some of your aura left, which is also what you'd use to reflect an attack (aka: typically to directly take physical harm your aura has to be broken, which means you can't use your semblance anymore). This is very interesting in terms of what happened between Blake, Yang and Adam. Because Adam stabs Blake, but Blake's able to use her semblance afterwards in order to get her and Yang away from the fight... which implies that Blake intentionally let Adam stab her so that her aura wouldn't break and she'd still have a way to get them away from him.

In that link I provided a couple episodes ago, he did say that the characters are young and "still discovering themselves..." so you're definitely on track. Also if you go back to Yang's Yellow Trailer, there's a quote in the beginning that ALSO acts as foreshadowing for both Yang's circumstances as well as her state of being and her detractors. It's sad that she's such a misunderstood character by some of the fandom but you have the gift of media literacy so you understand these characters well. I love Velvet's scene. Fun facts, she only 'has all of them' because she has taken pictures of them. Each use burns up that picture though, so, alas, she can't use Penny's anymore. ;_;. Her Semblence also allows her to /use/ the weapons like their wielder so thus the shots of Ruby's weapons in the air were the same as the Ruby in the trailer. Re: Ironwood. He got into some bad situations and got cybernetics/prosthesis, but he was human from the start and could generate his own Aura. As Penny said, she was a completely artificial being capable of generating an Aura. That said.... you made it through episode 11. I tell you now, you are still not ready for episode 12.

For those who have mentioned Chibi and the World of Remnant, those shows do not do well in engagement on Youtube. If you want to watch them, I recommend watching them on your own time. You saw it throughout the show especially when Cinder was rigging the match-ups to deliberately elicit negative emotions from the Amity Arena crowds. With this Volume almost finished, I extremely encourage you to watch the Ruby Rose Character short before Volume 4, as it helps begin the story, but only the Ruby one as the others are for later volumes. Also recommend watching World of Remnant and RWBY Chibi when you have time, as WoR provides knowledge and lore of the world and Chibi really helped me through the next few volumes.

I do think it was ultimately a non-choice because Pyrrha was basically told "Become this or the world will end" (and had that pressure gain some teeth once the school started to be attacked) but Oz requesting that verbal consent confirms that even though he was making poor choices, //this// was never something he wanted to inflict upon anyone ever. So something to bear in mind for the finales, a big chunk of that runtime is end credits, so it's not quite as long as it seems. That said, at least in the case of these episodes, yeah, it's good to take them separately, cause both are a rollercoaster. Like, seeing Elijah's play-by-play pauses of every moment really plays into what hits you like a freight train from left field about Volume 3. Like, she was so excited by the gay crumbs that she was ready for Yang to come in swinging on Adam hard. And then that happened. Real heel turn. Lots of screaming. Also, clarification, an Alpha is a type of Grimm, not Adam, but thanks for evoking... that whole sector of culture, lol. Honestly, understandable mistake given the various Grimm names they throw out, but still, Adam was already giving gross enough vibes.

Yeah, so the reveal of Velvet's weapon and semblance was pretty dope. Her being able to mimic fighting styles and then make hard light Dust copies of their weapons with the pictures she takes is a pretty creative idea. Only downside is that it's only one use per photo. Weiss summoned the arm of the knight from her trailer. You can tell by the sword and the armor you can see it wearing. We've seen a lot of action in this show but somehow Roman beating Ruby with his cane while she's curled up on the floor is one of the most brutal to me. I love the structure of this episode. It builds up a possible turn towards things being okay for most of our heroes. Roman gets eaten, Neo takes flight, Velvet revealed her abilities, Weiss summoned, Ironwood's back, Pyrrha's about to get the Maiden powers. But then everything changes with the release of an arrow. Cinder kills Amber and gets the rest of the power, Blake gets stabbed, Yang is disarmed... Suddenly that decent victory we'd been working toward just seconds ago is flipped and snatched away from our heroes. Now the battle just got harder. It's so good! The rise and fall is spectacular. Ugh, I love this episode so much. Still one of my favorites.

I have so much to say: - I love how Monty's death completely re-contextualized "I May Fall" from just a fun little song in the end credits of an episode in V1 to something the series took to heart. It paired so perfectly with the homages to his work in Velvet's fight. - Weiss summoning the arma gigas still gives me chills - Roman dying to a grimm just shows how insignificant he is tbh. I- I need to hear you say it" to Pyrrha regarding the unwilling combination of souls has completely different context on rewatch once you Know - The quote at the beginning of the Yellow Trailer foreshadowing Yang getting her arm cut off - "She was right about you. Such arrogance."

Not a spoiler, I think the part with Adam talking about what Blake loves, doesn't necessarily mean love love. After all, you can say you love a best friend or a friend so close their like family love. It's also probably a mix of jealousy, since as you clearly see he is toxic and controlling.

Velvet’s weapon (named Anesidora) is a camera that allows her to create hard light copies of weapons she takes pictures of and her semblance let her copy their fighting styles. The caveat is she uses up the “photograph” every time she creates a weapon (which is why Coco tells her “you’ve been building that up all semester don’t waste it here” in the v2 finale) so if she only had the one picture of Penny’s weapon that means she can no longer create it. Separate from the lore though it’s also really special bc not only is Velvet a character who became an unexpected fan favorite and so crwby held a contest to design her outfit, the animation used in this fight was Monty’s so it’s an homage to their friend. crwby continues to do little things like that in future volumes to pay respects to their friend and creator of RWBY. No one is replaceable but you have to keep moving forward. That’s RWBY in a nutshell There are openly gay characters in RWBY and a good amount of the fandom wank RWBY gets is because of jerks who have a problem with that. Let crwby cook is all I’m gonna say i promise it’s worth it! Blake’s song Wings on the v1 soundtrack sure hits different after you know that she wasn’t just dealing with regrets from her WF days but also had just recently come out of an abusive relationship with an older man who was grooming her from a young age 😭 Chp11 is so rough though. From the moment Oz says “I’m so sorry” to the moment in the thumbnail for this reaction it’s only 30 seconds and yet watching it feels like an eternity bc crwby packed so much hurt into it. Good call splitting 11 and 12. While 12 does have credits to take into account it’s still the second longest RWBY episode. And! Fun fact it originally aired on 2/13/16 so we just missed its 9 year anniversary

Yeeeah. Adam goes from Mysterious Revolutionary to Perverse Abuser in no time flat. Its also a very... personal story for some of the people making the show. Adam's VA says he himself felt nauseous at the lines he was reading a lot of the time.

Yes, specifically it was a Beowolf Alpha that had downed an airship the previous episode. It is in the scene for a second or two climbing a building before Blake notices Adam. Alphas are just bigger spikier (and often smarter and stronger) versions of that species of Grimm.

I like it actually. Adam's semblance lets him redirect attacks via his weapon. Blake unintentionally charged it up and so he was able to use her own feelings against someone she loves. It's exactly why Blake feels so guilty and what makes Adam such a fraud

I read somewhere that the fight between Adam and Yang had to be cut (Jesus... The pun was unintensional... Sorry) short because of time restrans. On the flip side at least it shows Adam's unmatched (at this point at least) strenght.

I still think yang getting one-shot, instead of losing in a badass fight, was lame as hell.

It has no bearing on most volumes. Maybe volume 4? For Lil' Miss. But that is also just neat information that hangs out and is learned about when you meet Lil Miss that doesn't impact extra stuff. Otherwise, it's all pre-story lore that helps give info on Neo and Roman.

Since you seemed to be a bit curious about Roman's backstory theres the book RWBY: Roman Holiday which is more of a Neo focused book but also delves into Roman slightly as well. Though can't remember what volume its best to wait to read it till after.

Actually, it was for story reasons. Selling Adam as the utter combat juggernaut that he is doesn't really work if Yang is able to hold her own against him and only loses after a long fight. The single-stroke disarming is a lot more impactful.
