How much it frustrates me that she doesn't get/understands (yet) the scope of it all (the Calamity, Gods and all that). I have to remind myself that I watched and rewatched it a lot (not the acual Campaign just the show) via reactions. And read about some stuff afterwards (the scope of the Calamity and the Divergence), and I'm nowhere near close to understanding it fully (mainly because I try to stay away from spoilers for future seasons)

"That sounds like a you problem!" - I was screaming! So cold, I can't help but stan. I'm so sorry.
Elijah very much gives that fresh-eyed perspective on the lore of this world. Doesn't fully grasp the calamity as of yet. Doesn't know what fate awaits Vax. Really conveys how well this show has teased the secrets and lore of its world throughout. Looking forward to how she reacts to next week, and if she recognizes a certain voice actor in the opening moments.

To be fair. While Vax is in this ,,situation" partly because of his plead to the Matron. She would have found a way to fulfill his destiny without his offer... He just (unintensionally from his part) escalated the process.

Yes. And she watches it on the main platform, so there ARE subtiltes. (I tried watching it wirhout it for a while, then switched them back on because I missed a LOT of context - like she did here)

It kind of is Percy's fault Vex died, though. He's the one who didn't want to wait for Vax to come back to start messing with the coffin, even when Vex initially was wary about it, he pressed on, anyway. They're in a place that has been full of traps so far, find Purvon's coffin which holds a vestige and didn't stop for a second to think that maybe the coffin might also be trapped before he went and started touching things. Vax had even told them, not even thirty seconds ago, to NOT touch anything because there could still be traps. Actions: Meet Consequences.
Vax is strung out right now, but I wouldn't say he's being an asshole in this moment (Or more of one than he usually is, let's be real VM are usually AHs by default). His sister, who is arguably the most important person in his life, just died because one of his friends did the thing he told them not to do and triggered an instant kill trap. He made a deal with the matron of ravens to bring her back, has no idea what that deal entails and is lowkey freaking out and stressed out because of it. Plus, in his defense, he told Percy he didn't want to hear it, and Percy just ignored him and kept talking. I think anyone would have punched Percy in that moment if they were in Vax's situation.

To explain couple of things what Vax saw wasn't the future ,it was the past and on eof the most important moment in the critical role lore ,the Calamity, about 1000 years ago the gods set to war upon Exandria (that's the name of the entire world) it was the war fought by the Prime Deities against the Betrayer Gods at the end of the Age of Arcanum. Lasting for roughly two centuries, it ended the Age of Arcanum and resulted in the Divergence, in which the Betrayer Gods were all banished from Exandria, the Divine Gate was constructed, and the Prime Deities permanently left Exandria as well(where Vax had the vision you could even saw some of the gods in the background including The Everlight the god that Pike follows).
Post-Calamity historians estimate only one-third of Exandria's population survived. All civilizations aside from Vasselheim were destroyed and, with them, most records, technology, and magical research. Historical knowledge of the Calamity and the Age of Arcanum is limited as a result. The war also left extensive geographical changes to Exandria, including the complete annihilation of one of continents. Also the guy that Vax fought wasn't him from the future but Purvan the last champion of the Matron of Ravens who was alive when the Calamity happened

One thing that the monster thing (and us) quickly realized is.. You do not mess with the Champion of a God... INSIDE the (main) temple of said God. (Even when he is not aware of his path ahead... Yet)

Plot twist - the other side of the Catra... is that a bookmark? is something completely tame and domestic.
That is the most cruel thing your girlfriend has said or done to you... so far! It's payback for all those puns in the produce aisle.
If only there were some show you could inflict, I mean, introduce, to Mosco as payback for the the trauma Vox Machina is giving you. Say... Wynonna Earp?

Couple interesting facts:
When this happened during the campaign, Matt (the DM) had originally been angling for Percy to receive the armor (thematically it would've made sense, given how much death he'd experienced in his life, as well as the plague doctor mask he used to wear being reminiscent of a raven's head)
However, Liam O'Brian (who voices and played Vax) had recently found out that his mother (whom he had a very close relationship with) had been diagnosed with cancer. The emotions from that was what led him to say "take me instead", and Matt decided to roll with it.
Liam has said that the resulting storyline with Vax was one of the things that helped him deal with his mother's diagnosis.

Quick thing. Trinket got his name because Vax was always stealing little trinkets. So Vex got a trinket of her own.

This is why Vax is my favourite male character. How he became the Champion of The Matron of Ravens is just peak storytelling. Forcing himself to sacrifice his life, not in the way you’d expect, to save Vex’s. But while doing so, the link that binded them together is erased and he is now bound to the Matron. So tragic and it relates to me personally. 😢🖤

So it’s hinted at in the end of the episode but what Vax’s “cost” was to no longer have his fate and destiny tied to Vex in any manner. He has become the Matron’s new champion (hence the vision he was going through to see if he was worthy), which means his life and beyond are forever dedicated to the Matron. He, on all accounts, belongs to her. So when he yelled “take me instead” she accepted his cry quite literally.
Side note, I really love how you just couldn’t hold back the emotions when Vex and Vax came across Trinket’s mom and adopted a bear cub. As someone who is a devout animal lover and has contributed to animal rescue and fostering programs, it really strikes a chord.

1. In the visions Vax was fighting Purvan Suul, the former Champion of the Matron of Ravens.
2. The Monster they fought is called "The Onlooker", which is a replacement for the D&D monster they fought in the campaign known as a Beholder.
3. The people Vax saw at the end were just random people. The Matron came for the dying man's soul and Vax, now being her champion, witnessed it.

Vax's journey is so good. Most of the time with storylines like this it is usually: Predictable, can feel forced or just outright OP... But for Vax it is neither. I don't say he is ,,weak", far from it. But it is super personal to him, and he makes realistic choices for anyone who would be ,,through into" a situation like this.

I try not to write a novel here, and I hope you see this Elijah.
1. The person Vax fought was Purvon, the Matron's previouse Champion (The fight was basically a test by her to see if he is fit for the role, a passing of torch in a way).
2. So some behind the curtain information about this episode: Liam O'Brien (Vax) lost his mom not long before they got to the Tomb. I don't know if he talked to Matt about it (they came up with the idea together) or Matt wanted to bring in Gods to a more promenent role in Season 2 anyway, but originally the armor was for Percy (bird imigary with the plague mask and such). But then Vex died and Vax offered himself instead, and so Matt took this once-in-a lifetime chance to help Liam grieve in a healthy way while still being in the game. THIS is a true friend on display. (And his genius ability as a fanominal DM)

I honestly love love LOVE that the trial to earn The Matron's vestige was battling her previous champion in a duel to the death. Vax's first instinct was to fight back, but Purvan was an unstoppable force - and it was only when he was reminded of Vex's words the night they saved Trinket that he realised what the true challenge was.
To gain a powerful artifact from the Goddess of Death, it makes sense that you need to not only accept death, but embrace it. When Vax closed his eyes and let Purvan 'kill' him, he proved that he was unafraid of everything The Matron represents.

so the cost of Vex becoming the Matron's Champion is service both in life and death, in life he can do what he wants so long as it doesn't go against the natural order of death and destiny which the Matron is also the godess of. Upon death, we'll let's just say that the Bill comes due and leave it at that.
DnD side note, it's at this pont that Vax took a level in Paladin

Vax is not fighting himself but Pervan, the previous Champion of the Matron. Also because the Matron is the goddess of death, it stands to reason that Vax saw that man at the end of the episode because he was dying and the Matron has "collecting" his soul.
