Emerald is also the reason why Qrow couldn’t make out their faces. Just a note for future reference, Maidens aren’t tied to a specific element. They can control all elements. The powers also aren’t gone if the person runs out of aura, unlike a semblance. No aura, no semblance. Ep 8: AKA Yang and Pyrrha having a very bad time. Thank god for Nora and Velvet because this episode needed some levity. Poor Jaune… he said the right things at the wrong time. He doesn’t have any context, but to Pyrrha all she hears is “do anything to become the Huntress you want to be even if it means sacrificing her ties to him and her friends.”

I think you would really enjoy it since it leans into the humor and silliness of RWBY. And in a way, it actually kinda fleshes the characters out even better than the main show. Because it really highlights their character traits and a lot of the running jokes surrounding them.

2025-02-03 10:28:15 +0000 UTCWith all that is happening in this volume, I can finally share this interview with RWBY's creator, Monty Oum, since this interview was done while Volume 2 was originally airing so there's ---ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS HERE--- It's a great piece on Monty's admittance of LGBTQ representation in his RWBY series. Also just note that Monty had once proclaimed that his show is long form story telling so basically the entire narrative is a slow burn of information and character development. The point where they’re finally able to express how they feel for one another… It’s just like you noted, for once Jean does everything right, and gives her the encouragement she so rightly deserves….he just doesn’t realize what he’s telling her to do is potentially give herself up…to give up her team, and her friends……to give up him… You can practically see the moment her heart shatters, and it’s devastating…… Especially since Pyrrha is undoubtedly the best of all of them…she’s probably thinking that even if she does say no, Ozpin and the others will just choose another girl to give her life up…Pyrrha will always be the one to lay down on the wire and let the others crawl over her as long as it means they’re safe……

2025-02-01 10:02:36 +0000 UTCit took me so long to realize that you could hear Pyrrha's Polarity being activated during the Deathstalker fight, and it kills me that I didn't notice it sooner. but it really is a good example of all the little details in the show that you may not notice right away, but upon rewatching you do and you realize just how much was being laid out even in the earliest days.

2025-02-01 07:23:05 +0000 UTCAhhh, that lovely tension slowly ratcheting up these past few episodes. It's wonderfully done. Also, the sound design of the Semblance's activating, specifically Emerald's and Pyrrha's very distinct sound effects make going back and listening to earlier fights worthwhile. Like the Polarity sound effect is all the way back when Pyrrha pins Jaune to the wall in the locker room the first time, and again in episode 8 as they jump over the Deathstalker and she grabs her spear out of it's eye. Just subtle cues, well laid in advance, make this whole first arc so enjoyable.

I highly recommend that you watch the Volume 4 Character Short (Ruby's, and only hers since the others come later) before starting Volume 4. There's also the World of Remnant series that describes more of the lore of, well, the world of Remnant which came out over the course of volumes 2, 3, and 4 (so mind the release dates).

2025-02-01 01:46:04 +0000 UTCNotice how Blake asks Yang to promise that she regrets what happened, yet Yang instead looks her in the eyes and very seriously states that she SAW Mercury attack her, and sounds almost more bitter than remorseful when she adds “so I attacked back.” I always found it interesting that Yang didn’t do what Blake asked her to, yet Blake still accepted it (and actually seemed relieved, like you can really see her eyebrows raise. Facial animation isn’t something that this art style always conveys well, so you KNOW that was done on purpose). But now I think I get what’s going on. I think that was a test to see if Yang would be honest. As she just explained, Blake experienced Adam repeat the same ‘mistakes’ multiple times, yet always assure her it was an accident or self defense or whatever afterwards. Blake was repeatedly lied to about Adam’s violence, and the fact that Yang didn’t just tell Blake what she wanted to hear—but instead the cold, honest truth—is exactly what made Blake certain she was being sincere. That’s what that brief moment of relief, and even the smile was about. To Blake that little moment was absolute confirmation that Yang and Adam have starkly different values despite having similarly hotheaded temperaments on the surface. Underrated detail for sure.

SO much lines up and falls into place one after the other in such a satisfying and horrifying way. You're picking up on ALL of it and it's making these reactions so enjoyable. Also loving that the first time Yang ever cries in the series is over Blake. She has a lot of "firsts" with Blake, to put it lightly. And tbh I'd love if you recorded yourself binging the series. The episodes get longer and encompass a lot more.

He first turns down Cinder bc he has all his men behind him but as soon as she shows her strength he goes along with her plot. And I don’t want to hear that she backed him into a corner bc we see our heroes stand up to Cinder and the villains over and over no matter what the odds are. Not only that but the WF had just pulled off a successful train heist (minus Blake cutting off the part of the train with the crew members and leaving) he had a ton of freshly stolen SDC dust but Cinder’s offer of more dust and lien was enough for him to ally with her. Hate that guy he’s just a spiteful little coward lol

Since the show doesn't really explain it, let's just say that she and Roman Torchwick are a package deal. The book 'Roman Holiday', which takes place before volume 1, details both Roman and Neo's backstories and how they met if you're curious. Oh, and Adam's last name 'Taurus' means 'bull'...since he's a bull faunus, having a pair of short bull horns on his head that kinda blend into his hair.

The thing about it that always sticks with me is that despite how many times I’ve rewatched rwby volume 3 just has this very tangible sense of dread that builds up bit by bit. First it’s the reveal that Cinder is in control of the entire tournament match ups then the maiden stuff, Yang being set up, and now the reveal of just how long Cinder has been planning this. This whole volume is very much just the “haha I’m in danger” meme lol

Raven is Yang's mom and Qrow's twin. Raven left shortly after Yang was born. Their dad married Summer and had Ruby. Yang has been looking for Raven since she learned about her.
