God these episodes were so bad they must have gave me amnesia lol
EDIT: Happy belated birthday Elijah.

It's from season 2, episode 7. "Fire and Fury" - I didn't go back and get the exact text, but the gist is accurate and not a spoiler.

The line isn't the exact same, but it has been mentioned by Claudia when she talked to Ez when he returned to Katolis in Seaon 2 (or 3, when he had that whole dilemma of being king)

Which episode is that line from her mother from? I can't remember it and I can't find it looking it up.
(If we haven't passed it, should probably remove it since it's a spoiler)

Claudia is hot, does Terry really need more of a reason than that? Who among us has not simped for a big tiddy goth girl?

Agreed! Villains like Claudia are far more compelling to me because you can analyse the choices they make and understand why, even if you don't agree. Compare that to villains like Cinder, who (at least as far as we've gotten - I've not watched RWBY before) seems to be a conventionally attractive villain simply because the narrative needs a conventionally attractive villain. We don't really know anything about her motives, we just know she's there to be evil

Terry is just an innocent bean who sees the good in everyone and unfortunately doesn't see the bad. He is like a child who absolutely loves and adores his parents even though they are pieces of shit

I really hate how Rayla never apologizes or even emits the pain she caused Callum. He feels so abandoned and betrayed and she comes back like she did nothing wrong

The scene of Ezran & Ibis/Claudia is genuinely one of the coolest concepts in a show I've seen for a while. To have a young but wise/naive character express a mere fragment of his pain and frustration at the state of the world, and how he hopes it can be better...overlaying three characters who do NOT want to fight each other but feel they MUST because "I have no choice"
I understand it's kinda hard to keep perspective, but it's good to remember that Claudia doesn't WANT to do anything she personally considers 'evil' (whether it's evil to US is a different question entirely). She only wants one thing: for her dad to stay alive for more than 30 days. For Claudia, the ideal scenario is everyone else stays out of her way so she, Viren and Terry can live happily ever after. Unfortunately, everyone else is weirdly insistent that the Startouch Elf who wants to help her stays imprisoned? Which means to make her omelette, she's 'forced' to break a few eggs. It's not personal, or malicious, just a means to an end

I think the button was just a little sticky. Claudia was *just* heavy enough to push it down, but it stuck a bit then finally released.

Non spoiler thoughts, the reason why I love Claudia isn't as cool as other peoples reason. The reason why she's honestly my favorite character is, because I find the villains in the show much more interesting and compelling then the good guys. And I think your perspective on her is very black and white, you should try to open your mind to the morally grey aspect of her.

I absolutely ship Soren and Corvus🫶🏼 They're cute together.
Yeah that scene with fighting and Ezran's monologue and then music was truly breathtaking (heh). It was deep and moving, I loved it.

I'm really annoyed with Rayla, personally. She can apologize to Ezran but is confused that Callum doesn't want her near him? She hurt him more than anyone, can't bring herself to say a proper "I'm sorry I left on your flipping birthday" and has the guts to act surprised?! Makes me blood boil, ngl.

I think you're looking at Viren and Claudia's plan very black and white. I think with Viren it's more justifiable to do that but even with him there's nuance in the relationship between elves and humans and dragons. We already saw with Sol Regem that the hatred of humans is pretty high up there. One aspect youbseemed to miss is that the dragon king patrolled the boarder and killed any human attempting to cross it. Not just those who hunted magical creatures like the we saw the platoon and king and queens do. We also saw with Kiram last episode that soem elves are against elves and humans living together. Viren so far is a petty man who manipulates his own family and so it's easy to just dismiss any good point he makes but humans do got a reason to feel wronged by the elves. Of course you get into the whole cycle of violence and who caused problems first but elves certainly got an elitist by tradition way of operating. I argue even Rayla being banished from her home is an example of thst. Her crime is not being able to kill someone as a teenager and she was expected to do so. It's easy to see that at least for claudia she has issues with the elf society and not with elves in general. And it's possible that Terry has reasons to not like that either. Any reasons for that will be explained later but i don't think it's a spoiler to say that's a strong possibility with the context of the show.

Sure, I just find it bewildering that “hot” somehow outweighs “three-dimensional character with development, recognizable motives, and varied relationships” so much as to make the difference between “more of this one” and “I’ve had enough of that one.”
That sounds far too critical now; I’m just a bit sad that Elijah can’t enjoy Claudia as an antagonist. I think she’s portrayed in a way that really emphasizes that bad guys rarely think of themselves as such.

I think we need to take a step back and consider all of Claudia's trauma:
- Mother left when she was young
- Queen died
- King died
- Her best friends ran off with an elf
- Brother paralyzed
- Brother left
- Brother "killed" her father
- Father died
So our girl has some *trauma*. And abandonment issues. Not as bad as Catra or Jinx (or Alice), because she didn't *cause* all of it, but it's there. And there are no therapists in Katolis. She follows her father's example of using dark magic to solve all of her problems. I don't remember the exact line, but when her mother left, she said to Claudia, "you have to keep the family together." So that's what she's trying to do. At any cost. She's a scared little girl trying to do what her mother asked.
But I think that's the writers' intention: they've set up the juxtaposition of Claudia being the sweet bubbly girl who is a very skilled dark magic user. I think it's supposed to cause cognitive dissonance in the viewer. Because evil doesn't always look it.
...
As for Terry... you'll see.

I love how well this show handles morally grey situations, such as the fact that Zubeia was the one who ordered the hit on Ezran and his dad, and her husband killed Ezran's mum...and still he's the one most open and welcoming to her coming to his kingdom.
Honestly...I kinda ship Soren and Corvus a bit too. Though then again, I also weirdly ship (or at least friendship) Soren with Zubeia of all characters, as they have a surprisingly good amount of chemistry...despite her being a building-sized dragon and all.

The thing with Claudia is... she is truly, hopelessly naive. She thinks that because she's nice, then that makes her good. And she is nice, but that doesn't necessarily mean kind. Both she & Terry are blind to that distinction, and with time that distinction will rear its head more. Unfortunately, though, Terry is a part of the story that I'm not sure the show goes in depth enough on. That's something that might make more sense if we got a backstory, but it was truly lost in the timeskip, and they make the error of not going back for it.

I honestly only think Elijah likes Cinder for her looks. She even said in her last reaction basically "I know you're evil, but why do you have to be so hot?"

To give you another perspective on why Terry is with Claudia think of it as someone who is in an abusive relationship they are blinded by the love and try to justify the darker actions

It is of course very subjective which characters we enjoy but I find it interesting how different your reactions are to Claudia compared to Cinder in RWBY. In my eyes Claudia has far more redeeming qualities and is a more fleshed out, interesting character at this point. Sure, she does things that cannot be excused but she’s also not acting out of malice but trying to save her father.
We don’t know much about Terry yet but he’s clearly deeply in love with Claudia so it shouldn’t be surprising that he attacks someone to save her life.

Something we kind of put together throughout arc 2 is that Terry is essentially Claudia’s last moral compass. As another comment mentioned, he is like her Iroh trying to help her stay off the misguided path, though I wouldn’t say he’s the most fantastic at it. Later in the season, we subtly learn a little bit about Terry and a reason why he was perhaps drawn to Claudia as a person. Something that I have always loved about this show is its subtlety and nuanced storytelling. Many things are not told and have to be discovered or interpreted by the viewer, and everyone sees something different! There are some upcoming scenes I am very much looking forward to you seeing and how you take them as they have produced some interesting discussions within the fandom.
A tip for 404, do NOT skip the intro; in fact, I suggest you don’t skip the intro in general for optimal viewing. We love subtlety right? 😏

Happy birthday to Bella, our favourite little grumpy doggo! Anyway, season 4 may be weaker imo, but I still had fun with it and I'm sure you will too. But I'm really excited for what comes after :D
Also I understand your frustrations with Claudia, but I honestly can't hate her even at her worst, I just find her too fun of a villain lol. This episode really was breathtaking, huh lol. Also you should watch the intro for next episode, trust me.

Great reaction once again Elijah! I believe that Aaron said that Terry is Claudia's Iroh in a sense. He's there to be the one to remind her of her humanity and keep her anchored. If youve played the Last Of Us part 2, You can think of Terry as the Dina to Claudia's Ellie lol! I feel like they have very similar roles in their respective stories. Also I completely understand your frustration with Claudia because she doesn't have to do any of the things she's doing but in her mind what she's doing is the only option. Her being groomed into dark magic since she was young, her abandonment issues from childhood due to her mother and then brother leaving her and because of that she's formed an even stronger unhealthy attachment to her dad who she views as her only family left and it's led her exactly to where she is at the end of this episode. not sure if that made sense but I tried my best lol. Claudia's just such an interesting character to me lol and love talking about her. Anyways can't wait for the next reaction! One of my favorites of s4 and make sure to watch the intro! You'll notice something a lil different👀
