She is to be a huntress and what better way to prove that she can handle the job then entering her in a tournament of other strong upcoming hunters and huntresses? Also I think you might be forgetting the fighters in this have aura. They aren't being killed by being sent flying, shot at, or falling into volcanoes because their aura is like a forcefield protecting them. The HP bars are measuring their aura and when they run out, they are considered too weak to fight because then they will start getting actually hurt if hit.

If you’re having fun and your enemy is absolutely fuming, who are the monsters attracted to negativity more likely to go after? Not to mention that as a huntsman you’re professionally trained to kill Grimm whereas your enemy might not always be. It might make her look like an asshole in the context of a friendly competition, but as far as real world strategies go, for a person living in the world of Remnant it’s actually pretty brilliant and calculated.

2025-01-25 15:46:52 +0000 UTCFun fact, Yang breaking Mercurys leg was originally way darker. The initial idea was that she'd actually blast his leg off and dismember him. There's even a line later on that accidentally stayed in where a character refers to what happened here to Mercury as a "dismemberment". Still effective this way though. Aura was constantly used in V1 and 2 as this shield that allowed us to see this characters get hit super hard while not taking any true damage so this is the first time we've seen someones Aura break and have something of their body broken. It's a noticeable tone shift and I ADORE it.

2025-01-24 23:08:43 +0000 UTComg your amazing you know I've seen like 20 reaction channels watch rwby your the first one to figure out what happened immediately normally I have to give like a paragraph of info on what happened in that fight and most of the context is in the next episode so if you want absolutely no spoilers don't read what's next but ill try to keep it as spoiler free as possible so first mercury lost on purpose because your right cinder is rigging the match ups and the had a lists of who they could manipulate based on fighting styles and abilities they noticed that yang repeatedly use her semblance without thought so banked on that mercury purposely got yang down to the lowest her aura could possibly go without being eliminated to guarantee that when he lost, her hits were strong enough to break his aura and make the damage permanent then that's when the illusion started after the game mercury followed directly behind her whispered that line in her ear that's why it sound so close she saw what we see and responded accordingly but what really happens was what was on screen I cant tell you how many people miss this and think they hacked the screen or whatever so many people miss judge mercury's power not realising he lost on purpose like he literally smirks when yang gets back up with her semblance.

They may have looked flashy and carefree, and their tech may not have been all that impressive, but they were very strategic with their use of psychological warfare and divide and conquer strategies. It's also featured in the book 'RWBY Fairy Tales of Remnant'. That moment of complete confusion when Yang is suddenly accused when we, the audience, saw Mercury attack her first, is definitely one of the best reaction-worthy moments in the series. Also, Ruby shouting "Break a leg, sis!" just before was maybe not the best choice of words.

It has all sorts of concept art and commentary from crwby (the general way we refer to cast and crew) but ☝️it was released I think sometime during v5 or v6 so it’d be very spoiler heavy right now. And on the last couple pages it has a brief look ahead with concept art of characters from v7. So definitely worth getting but not something you could look through currently

I have a wierd paralelling of characters, between two shows, as I'm listening to the song that plays in said episode called ,,Neon" (I fantastic song btw). So those characters are Yang as Vi and Neon as Jynx. Especially the latter one, with the crazy speed and just burst of color.

Flynt from a meme within Rooster Teeth's gaming group Achievement Hunter and Neon is based off of Nyan Cat. Also with Neon, those remarks towards Yang weren't personal or anything. She just tends to do that as a bit of psychological warfare to throw her opponents off their game.
