RWBY - Vol. 3 Ep. 3 + 4 - Reaction (Full)

Comments

Also, when she says "New access point" she is holding her tablet and you can see a tiny picture of Ironwood in the corner of the screen. Plus the fancy letter "W"

Beowolf Chow

Don't worry about it. I think the thing is that for the longest time there were no good pictures of Ruby's mom, so people couldn't observe any family resemblance. So other theories filled in the apparent gap.

Beowolf Chow

Couple of notes. Qrow's last speech to Ruby and Yang is largely based off of Monty Oum's motto "keep moving forward". Winter's tease/mock that Weiss could be a receptionist is due to Wiess' VA being a receptionist for the company before getting to play Weiss.

Arashi

Being broke as soon as you leave your parents, I think alot of people have been there weiss

Yay I’m so glad RWBY reactions are back on! 😍 Anyways I have to point out the intros: every volume has a different intro and the intro is basically foreshadowing the volume (both with the art and the lyrics) so please keep that in mind 😄 (it’s not a spoiler as people did mention this before in the comments and the crew didn’t try to hide this fact and made it very obvious). That’s why all us RWBY fans are so excited and want to see your reactions to the intros! The outros will always be different each episode (they play a song / melody from the episode) and they show the concept art for characters and other things so I recommend you check them out if you find this interesting. Also just to inform, Qrow is indeed blood related. He is the brother of Yang’s mom, not Ruby’s (But they still consider each other uncle and niece regardless). She also talked in episode 1 about how he trained her and how she learned so much from him. And lastly Qrow’s weapon of choice is definitely not compensating, it’s awesome! You’ll see in time (as well as his skill). Can’t wait to see more reactions! Hope you enjoy the series as much as we do! 😄

Don't you mean that line is silver?

Flufux

Ok? That's you, I'm close to that age(slightly older) and have dated much older and would date older again instead of younger(20-22 would be the youngest) some people have no issues dating with a large gap, my own parents have a 20 something gap between them.

Phoenix Mackenzie

ditto what the others are saying about Cinder hacking into the Beacon computers, thus giving her access to Ironwood's scroll because he synced it up (accidentally) to the Beacon network. also re: Weiss and Winter it's not super clear, but the showrunners did once say that Winter is roughly 6-7 years older than Weiss, so you're correct in Winter being significantly older than her. I knew the reaction to Cinder would continue to be adorably gay XD

Cinder's Apologist

Cinder originally hacked the system back during the dance episode. Ironwood then connected his scroll to show them his ships and thus his scroll got hacked as well and gave Cinder a new access point.

The Laughing Man

Sorry haven't caught those thanks for clearing it up guess students emulate their mentors more than I thought

alex duskfall

Cinder now has access to Ironwood’s scroll. You can see the Black Queen symbol when he picks his scroll up from Ozpin’s desk

Connor Hines

So the new name allusions in this episode are Qrow, referencing the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz, and Winter, referencing Hans Christian Anderson's The Snow Queen, the basis of Frozen. The allusions to classic stories is one of my favorite things about this show's worldbuilding, a fairy tale melded to edgy futurism. Course as you're watching it, it can be easy to miss some references that aren't as clear-as-day as Glynda Goodwitch.

{L} Frances

HOLY CRAP WHAT The details in this show man

Jittercritter

(Not really spoilers but I guess probably don’t read this if you’re not caught up just in case?) I’m still of the opinion/headcanon that Summer and Raven were a thing at one point too, maybe the 3 were polyamorous and poor Qrow was just there lmao. He did say he had a number of inappropriate stories so it wouldn’t surprise me if team STRQ had some unconventional romance stuff going on

Jittercritter

‘It’s Brawl in the Family’ is one of my favorite episode titles of the series, something about it really stands out to me lol. ‘Burning the Candle’ is another title that’s stuck in my heart really firmly, speaking of which—anyone else think Elijah should really rewatch that episode?

Jittercritter

Qrow is definitely one of my favorite characters in RWBY, and as for his sword. It may be big, but he definitely knows how to handle it. Personally I never really liked Winter, she's lowkey abusive towards Weiss, she constantly is putting her down, criticizing her, and being very judgmental to Weiss. Can't wait for the next reaction! ❤️🤍🖤💛

Bryan Forquer

Again with the leitmotifs! The music for the Qrow/Winter fight is a mashup of their individual motifs, oscillating back and forth depending on who's more prominent or has the advantage in the moment

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

The ship name, incidentally, is Snowbirds

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

That one line from Ruby is SO GOOD.

LikeCat

"Why was she so mesmerized by it?" I mean... there is a woman in the picture that looks exactly like the woman that saved her on the train. Just pointing that out. Maybe she has some kind of connection to Yang? 👀

Nektis Noir

"That did not show the kind of burn damage you'd get from that" You have to remember that all these characters have their Aura mitigating any damage to them. Nothing too bad can happen to them till that Aura shield is broken down.

Nektis Noir

So to clear up some confusion, Qrow is not the brother of Ruby's mom. He's the brother of Yang's mom. There's technically no blood relation but they still consider each other uncle and niece and are very close. Ruby even mentioned in the very first episode that much of her fighting style was stuff she learned personally from Qrow.

Nektis Noir

That theory has been stated to be false multiple times by Miles and Kerry in Q&As, Cameo videos, etc. Tai is in fact Ruby's dad.

Nektis Noir

Yey RWBY is back! You are past the buildup and now to the action phase, its about to get WILD!

Arius

Qrow: They don’t give out medals for “almost”….. Ruby: They do, and they’re called Silver!!!☝🏻 Still one of my favorite lines. 🤣 Ruby out here Spittin’ facts!😂👍

RenaissanceM

Great to have you back and I’m glad you’re feeling better! I had a nasty sinus infection myself last month - no fun. Just a reminder regarding the important concept of “aura” in the RWBY universe since it’s been a while for you and it wasn’t touched on much in Vol. 2. Warriors can put up a sort of force field around their bodies powered by their soul which is how Yatsuhashi (the big guy in green) took a geyser blast to the face that you pointed out should have really messed him up but didn’t. But there’s a limit to how much damage that shield can take before it fails and then the person is as vulnerable as any real-life human.

TXOT

The Schneeblings aren’t known for making good first impressions lmao but Winter and Weiss definitely love each other even if they have a hard time showing it in what one might consider a “normal” way. Winter’s weapon is so funny tho. You’ve heard of it’s also a gun now get ready for it’s also a…. Smaller sword. Team STRQ: Summer T_ R_ and Qrow (don’t believe we’ve seen the names of the T and R yet) poly strq is a somewhat popular ship and strcrossed (star crossed) is the ship name for Ruby and Yang’s moms and their dad. The Xiao Long-Rose family is messy and I love it lol lots of fun potential for both canon theory crafting and au for fic writers to play with Peep the “W” on the screen of cinder’s scroll when she mentions their clever little friend The first head of the king taijitsu (which is the snake Grimm that Ren fought during the initiation in v1) that Qrow was referring to is Roman 🗣️keep moving forward🗣️ that’s one of the core messages at the heart of rwby and this is the first time we hear it in the show!

Rachel Mae

There's two official series art books: World of RWBY and RWBY Archives Remnant Promenade. The former is easy to get and still in print, the latter was a very limited run and very few copies exist (I got mine second hand for $700) but has way more concept art compiled into it. Also some fun tidbits: - Winter's voice actor (Elizabeth Maxwell) was chosen because she has a similar speaking style/cadence as Weiss' voice actor (Kara Eberle). The two are actually friends in real life and affectionately call each other "Schneester." - Winter's comment about how Weiss could go back home and become a receptionist is probably a reference to Kara Eberle's first job at Rooster Teeth which was the company's receptionist. - Qrow's little comment before he left about how they have to "keep moving forward" is a reference to the dead creator's personal quote, "Keep moving forward." You'll actually hear it inserted throughout the entire show. - Qrow isn't actually related to Ruby by blood (though some people theorize he is), but you can see how much she looks up to him based on her design (although they worked backwards- Ruby's came first, then Qrow's). The red cape, the crosses, the color scheme, the scythe. Plus he destroyed the Beacon courtyard in episode 3 like Ruby did accidentally.

Kiesen

Please react to the soundtracks for vol 1 and 2. There so much character insight in the songs contained in the soundtracks.

ANIMEMUSE

The bird that flew by before Qrow's and Winter's ,,fight" was (I think) a raven...

LikeCat

I don't know if an official age has ever been set for Winter. But you could probably get away with making her as Old as 27 and Qrow as young as 39. And that would be really pushing it. So say they had a fling recently like in the previous two years. It's a little less gross. But I don't think they will ever address it in the show. I think the Chemistry between the characters and performance of the VA's just fascinated the fndm to the point of wondering. I'm not sure if that tension was intended from the start or not.

AJ

Y’all, it’s fiiiiiine. She’s very clearly fine. Definitely not distracted at all. It’s toooootally fine. lol Stay strong!

Kriscerosaurus

No spoilers, you'll need tissues for the finale

Martin E Melcher

Cinder comes in = Elijah gay panic to the point of apologising to Mosco for it. Yep, Elijah’s back into RWBY. 🤣🌹

Liam Gradwell

Personal theory tai and Raven = Yang and and my theory Summer and Qrow = Ruby. My hope but also fits to how they look especially with outfit design

alex duskfall

Okay? Thanks for the lesson?? I never said they weren't. I said I hope it's not romantic I'm 10 years younger than Qrow and I would never date a 22 year old even though it's technically legal. 22 year olds are still very young, the frontal lobes of their brains aren't even fully developed yet, and there are some uncomfortable power dynamics involved when people decades older pursue them romantically

Andy

they're both adults

Phoenix Mackenzie

Romantic tension between Qrow and Winter is a pretty common thought during these episodes, but she is like 22 and he is in his 40s, so let's hope that's not the case lol

Andy

It's not just a sword , and Qrow is Yang's moms brother, but yes. He looks a lot like Ruby and Ruby's dad looks nothing like her dad

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Couple of exposition episodes. But I do love Qrow's introduction. Now the ramp up begins. It's only getting faster from here. Enjoy!

AJ

Crows actualy not related to ruby he is yangs mums twin And yes he mentioned crow is the one who tught ruby ti fight and saved yangs life when she went looking for her mum

demonic-myst

While it may have been rather subtle, there was actually a very sapphic moment in the second episode, as Coco was definitely flirting with Emerald when she complimented her (rather revealing) outfit. (Coco being the girl with the barrett and the minigun handbag) It's kinda funny seeing reactors piece together how Ruby and Yang's family fit together as the show went ahead and created one of the most confusing family dynamics possible. Also the fact that their dad somehow managed to get together and knocked up two of his teammates lead to a lot of jokes about him being a harem protagonist.

Flufux

This isn't a spoiler, it's something a lot of people miss in the first episode of these 2, including me my first time watching: when Ironwood picks up his phone off the desk we see a flash of a chess piece on his phone. This is to show that the thing Cinder did last season during the dance has accessed Ironwood's system. THAT'S what Cinder meant when she said they had a new access point or whatever she said. I've seen people miss that as I said, me included

Curtis Murphy

There is a RWBY art book. It's called The World of RWBY, but I would recommend holding off on getting it because there will be spoilers in it. Once you get past volume 6 though, you should be golden.

Ashtyn

Also to answer your question about a RWBY artbook, there is one RWBY Archives Remnant Promenade volumes 1-8. Though its mostly in japanese and seems to be unavailable to buy anywhere. there's also The World of RWBY: The Official Companion, though thats more a companion book to the show than an art book. Also contains spoilers for volumes 1-6.

Qrow and the rest of Team STRQ.

Oh yay I'm excited for this 🥰

,,The code: Family" Me: You have NO idea of how clever that was.

[MOD] Hey everyone! Remember to keep the comments free of any spoilers of future episodes for Elijah. Also, make sure we’re keeping the comments cool & comfortable for everyone here. Enjoy the reaction y’all!!!

Sam

Just to let you know, I believe Winter is around 7 or so years older than Weiss so in her mid-20s. While Qrow is in his late 30s - Early 40s.
