VM - 2x01 - Reaction (Full)

Comments

I am almost 14 minutes into this reaction and my reaction has been just about the same as yours. What an intense start to the season, and I also have to ask how the fuck they're supposed to deal with this? And this is only season 2?? What are they going up against later??? Also I love the interactions you and Moscoe have been having in these lol. I also love both of your tops in this :D

Bailey

Fun fact about Allura: Altho she is an NPC (and thus played by Matt Mercer in the Campaign) she is basically a stand in character by Matt... Well for himself if he was a player.

LikeCat

“ you’re yelling at me” “ sorry. I’m not yelling at your in yelling in your general direction” Yes, these are the yells of excitement and frustration. Hope ya both has time to sit down and get tea together

Eric Wise

In the meantime, I will be listening to this Season's soundtrack. To be fair it is really just 4 piece of music that I listen to on a loop: Kiki's theme (which I started to REALLY appreciate in next Season) and Vax's themes - he (thecnically) has 3.

LikeCat

Oh yeah, Matt doesn't ,,kill off" main characters like that, but compared to other shows it is noticeably much more ,,lacking". I don't mind, keep you quessing what will happen next. To be fair there were times (mainly ONE in Season 3) where I was outright throwing insults at Matt for what he did... I didn't hate the desicion itself, I hated that that ,,part" still makes me... Um... Feel emotions.

Episode 4 is the one I’m always most hyped about for reactions, it’s one of my favorites of the season.

SauceyRed

I’d say there’s *less* plot armor rather than none. Unless a player wants their character to die (or is fine with a stupid in-character decision leading to that), the DM will try to be a bit helpful with avoiding it (with potential consequences), at least in my experience, but I get that vibe from Matt as well.

SauceyRed

While that episode is cool and all. I like pain and misery myself. Heh. 😅

LikeCat

And S3E7 is another big one. Heck the WHOLE second half of Season 3 is banger after banger for one reason or another.

LikeCat

Big same! S2E3 and S2E10 are my favorites of the entire show. Just absolute masterpieces. The other two seasons have some really good ones too, S1E11 and S3E4 are close up behind them for me.

David Bodor

The way Raishan flies above the city with her poison breath legitimately reminds me of how fumigators exterminate insects, it's so brutal to see that with people...just the absolute mass murder of it all...

David Bodor

Came back to Patreon for this one, I couldn't wait. This episode is freaking intense. Then again, all of season 2 is freaking intense tbh.

David Bodor

I am almost 100% sure this wasn't the (intended) way to see that scene/line and I am sure that I'm reading WAY to much into it, but: When Souvern Uriel said ,,Oh Gods above us" when he saw the dragons, I know that the way it is meant to be taken is like when we say ,,Oh my God what is that", but... BUT he did not elaborate on it. And he... um... Got what he asked for? - As I said I am almost certain I am reaching HARD, and seeing connections/ forshadowing where there (possibly) aren't any.

LikeCat

Oops, my bad. I mixed up the time-line of the real world.

Chet Bliese

Also, if you’re curious about the DnD classes of the extended cast, Kima (Stephanie Beatriz) is a Paladin, Allura (the blonde spellcaster) is a wizard, and Gilmore is a sorcerer.

Sylrimba

LVM (much like Arcane) doesn’t shy away from showing us the collateral damage that takes place in any fantasy epic (but most shows gloss it over). When I first watched this episode, I thought I was going to be sick. Tens of thousands of people died in the dragon attack (maybe hundreds of thousands), and the animators wanted us to know it. It hurts, but it’s also necessary for us to feel the real pain of the common people. The animators in this show are absolutely geniuses. I’m so excited for you to keep going.

Season 2 is my favorite season

Kieran Hunter

Cool to hear you're a Fringe fan!!!

Alex Graham-Heggie

Personally I like season 1 better than 2, but this one is still good.

Bryan Forquer

That's not until the first episode of season 3. Lance was still alive when these episodes where released.

Dragon0921

You were surprisingly close to WHO that shadowy person is that Vax saw in the smoke. Not there yet, but genuenly close... Kinda. Right?

LikeCat

Yeah there is no such thing as plot armor (as to the degree in other shows), especially for Vox Machina, and mainly in death/ near-death experiences. Which there are a surprisingly low amount given the things that they got themselfs into down the line.

LikeCat

Mosco trying her best to keep her mouth SHUT so to not even allude to future... Things. (You did great)

LikeCat

A moment of silence for the late great Lance Reddick.

Jim Bruening

My heart can’t handle the amount of cute when they are both on screen omfg

MoMo Tempest🏳️‍🌈

Im so happpy she posted thisssss two in one week im so fudging happy

Elijah: "All this show has given me is anxiety and pain!" Mosco: "Payback's a bitch!" Elijah: "For what!?" Mosco: "For She-Ra!"

Ryan Porter

Sorry, second comment, but you said in the reaction that the main cast has "plot armor". Just a reminder that this is one show where they actually kinda don't! While they do take some liberties for the sake of storytelling, the show is still based off their D&D game. And since, in a D&D game, any of them are always at risk of death at every opportunity, well, so does the characters in the show! Just to make you a tiny bit more anxious! ;) lol

Aineyn

Your intro for this one was great 😂

Athena

But, do you like the show or not?

bloodyshadow1

Brimscythe was easier because he was younger. The older the dragon the more powerful they get. He was old enough to shape shift and speak common tongue, but he wasn’t as magically capable as the others since they are ancient in comparison to him. They actually hinted the conclave in episode two, with the dragon rug.

Wolfie

Damn, season 2 already? I'm all up for it! :D

Aineyn

This was Lance Reddick's last role that was released before his death. He'd racked up enough that we still haven't reached the end, which will be in Ballerina this year.

Chet Bliese

"Now from this point on things get a *little* bit complicated..."

David Johnson

I personally cannot wait for episode 3 (and 4). But that one is good too.

LikeCat

Well your girlfriend is right... can't wait for episode 5 😂

Kisuke01

Hahaha, this was 100% what I was looking forward to! Absolutely one of the most intense season premieres ever. So many moments this season I can't wait for Elijah to see. The moment with Mosco was really funny. Yeah, the stakes are unfathomably high this go. And yeah, I do love when characters clearly roll low. I kinda love in D&D when my character makes a silly, personal decision and it totally backfires on them and their group.

{L} Frances

Mosco coming in with Elijah yelling at her “What the Fuck?! Why have I seen a Fast and Furious dragon destroying a kingdom?!” Mosco: “No Comment” which means “It’s only the beginning babe”. 🤣⚔️

Liam Gradwell

so fragile lol

John Bossert

I know I've said this before but you should definitely watch the original Vox Machina D&D campaign the group did, even if it's on your own time when you have the chance, while I did enjoy the animated show they did, I actually prefer the actual D&D campaign of the story than the animated show, I watched the show once and don't get me wrong I did enjoy it but for me it doesn't have that element that makes me want to rewatch it, I still go back to watch the Critical Role Vox Machina campaign all the time though, I think for me is because of all the story that is left out and I understand why they did it that way, they have only so much money to be able to produce each episode, any way this is just my view point, nothing more nothing less. Still loving the reactions though keep up the good work

Sol-Edge

RIP Lance Reddick

EDHPlayer

Oh, and the big red dragon's name is Thordak, he's the leader of the Conclave and his voice actor is Lance Reddick, and he unfortunately passed away.

Iron117Prime

I didn't expect you to react to Vox Machina so quickly after the last one. But I'm not complaining. The Chroma Conclave were targeting Emon from the beginning. The blue dragon from the start of the series, Brimscythe, acted as the scout for the group; he infiltrated the kingdom and tore the army up from the inside so that it would be more vulnerable for the rest of the dragons to take. That's why the green poison dragon, Raishan, recognized Keyelth, seeing her through those stones in the beginning. And just to be clear, Brimscythe was only the SCOUT of the group. He's basically an adolescent dragon compared to all the others, who are way older and way more powerful. There's a reason they targeted Emon... but you will learn later on.

Iron117Prime

When you asked Mosco about how they started this season. I could SEE in her eyes the ,,OK... How do I put this without spoiling EVERYTHING?" - I think you did an exellent job Mosco, bravo.

LikeCat

Given what will happen this season, this episode is relatively peacefull. Keyword: relatively.

LikeCat

I love that Mosco gets to experience the show all over again through Elijah! I know my favourite thing about Vox Machina rewatches was feasting on the reactions of my friends Re: the dragons casting, Lance Reddick is indeed the red/fire dragon, but Cree Summers was also the voice of the green/poison dragon! Some of you may have recognised Matt's voice make a return for the black/acid dragon, and Liam (Vax's VA) as the white/ice dragon

Rye-Ah

Back to back Vox Machina?! What a way to start 2025! - Chromatic dragons (red, green, white, black and blue) are always depicted as evil, while Metallic dragons (bronze, silver, gold and platinum) are the good ones! - The late Lance Reddick voiced the red dragon Thordak, Cree Summer voiced the green dragon Raishan, Liam O'Brian (Vax's VA) voiced the white dragon Vorugal and Matt Mercer voiced the black dragon Umbrasyl. (and of course there was David Tennant as the blue dragon Brimscythe)

Dragon0921

Wow Elijah. You work FAST! I cannot wait for this one. 🤩🎉

Liam Gradwell

I just finished the reaction to the s2 finale let's goooo Also yup, THAT'S how they start it, really sets the tone, doesn't it?
