Now that you've finished V3 I thought I'd point out that from the team JNPR fought (team BRNZ) only the guy with the shock baton lives. It's mentioned in one of the books that follows CFVY in Vacuo.

in case someone hadn't told you already, the reason some of the beats from season 2 are considered non-canon is because when Monty passed away, he hadn't told anyone what he was planning on doing with those story beats, so the team didnt have much of a choice but to move on without them, the season 2 end credit is often considered a dream sequence or completely non canon for this reason

There is a video on YouTube that would be so nice if you reacted after Volume 3. Titled ,,Tribute to Monty Oum by Rooster Teeth". It was put out (I believe) not long after his death... nearly 10 years ago on the Rooster Teeth YouTube channel.

The creator of the show Monty Oum died between season 2 and season 3. The opening scene of Ruby talking to her mother's grave was written in a way to also be speaking to the creator and was a heartfelt message to him. Ren was voiced by Monty Oum and now the role is being played by his brother.

Great reaction, Elijah! Just a reminder: Ruby and Yang have different mothers, but the same father, not the other way around. The grave Ruby was visiting was HER birth mom's grave, and at this point in the series all we know is that Yang's mom disappeared shortly after she was born.

Also also, this is where we really see how integral the music has become to the storytelling in the show. For example, "All Our Days", a song from Volume 2 about a parent's love for their child, can be heard in the underscore as Ruby wraps up her visit to her mother's cenotaph. Additionally, the music during the fight between teams NDGO and SSSN establishes a clear theme for each, and alternates back and forth depending on who's on screen or who has the advantage at the moment.
Oh, and speaking of music, it is standard in RWBY for the intro to come at the end of the first episode of a volume and at the beginning of each episode thereafter. I think it's an anime convention?

The animation improves every year, but the really big bump comes after Volume 3 is done. The first 3 volumes are rendered in Poser, which was Monty's preferred software, but the action sequences in Volume 3 pushed the capabilities of Poser to the literal breaking point. So, from the Volume 4 character short onward, the show has been rendered in Maya, which is much more capable of rendering a major fight scene without crashing all the time.

The series creator, Monty Oum, once said "All good romance is earned". And I truly believe that the writers have done a very good job of living up to that sentiment with how they handle romance in the show.

Hold steadtfast Elijah, it will only get better from here.
So a couple of things:
-They improved the engine for this Volume's animation but not overly so, trust us you'll know when the animation gets improved.
-Yang and Ruby have the same Dad, different Moms as stated by Yang in Volume 2.
-Mercury and Ren have new VA's
-The beginning with the Sun and Crows is an homage to Monty Oum's, creator of RWBY, signature. Oum passed away between Volume 2 & 3.
-Ren is now voiced by Monty Oum's brother, Neath Oum.

This is extremely incorrect on multiple levels. Monty's vision was not changed, the main writers are Monty's friends that have been there from the beginning and have followed his major story points. The 12 volumes idea was a GUESS they made YEARS ago that has since changed cause the volumes have either held back on certain elements or introduced them earlier depending on production or just what feels right. Warner Bros bought Rooster Teeth well before Volume 9. The only reason Volume 9 is currently the last volume is cause 10 had not yet been greenlit and then Rooster Teeth was shut down. RWBY is not owned by a Japanese anime company. It's currently owned by Viz, an American anime and manga distribution company. And the original crew still has full control over the storytelling.

"Do they share a mom or a dad?" Dad. They have different birth mothers. Though Yang considers Summer Rose and her birth mom as both moms in her life because the latter left her not long after birth so Summer was the one who actually raised her

Not sure if it's been mentioned before, but the intros are shown for the first time at the end of the first episode of each volume. A good thing because it avoids you getting "spoiled" of stuff that happens in the first episode (especially helpful for one particular volume, of which the intro spoils a big thing in the first episode).
Also, it's sort of "thing" to react to each soundtrack after each volume, but not everyone does that, it's just fun to watch because the songs are not just bangers, they also bring some context/hints/foreshadowing (despite them mostly being written by Jeff Williams without input or lore correction from the writers iirc).

Bit of a "fun" fact: In the original animation when Taiyang (Ruby and Yang's dad) was shown at the start when Ruby looked at him, he looked almost like a statue, but you're watching the Blu-ray versions, for which they went back and improved some parts. Unfortunately they removed a Wilhelm scream that was originally included in a scene a couple episodes ago.

The first two seasons were a test to see how good the show would do and since the show was popular they decided to spend more money on the animation. That's the reason why the animation got a huge upgrade this season

Just to set things straight, They never gave up and leaving things at 9 volumes, RT just needed outside funding and then Warner bros shut Rooster teeth down. Also RWBY didn't get bought by a japanese anime company. RWBY got bought by Viz which is an American company that specialises in publishing manga, and distribution and licensing Japanese anime, films, and television series.

Both Ren and Mercury has new voice actors since volume 2. I don't know the reason why Mercury's VA changed, but now he's voiced by Yuri Lowenthal. Ren on the other hand used to be voiced by Monty Oum himself, but he passed away before they went about recording Ren's lines for this volume, so from now on he's voiced by his brother Neath Oum instead.
Oh, and for the record, Yang and Ruby have different mothers but the same father. As we saw from his brief cameo here, Yang got the blonde genes from their dad while Ruby did not.
Yes, Nora is based on Thor from Norse mythology, if the giant hammer wasn't a big giveaway...though also taking some notes from Freya as well.
Fun fact: while Mercury sniffing the boot in that one scene is used to just make him seem weird, that actually is a legitimate way to tell the quality of leather.

Unfortunately after Monty passed they changed his vision a bit. He apparently left a guidelines of what he wanted to do with the series, but it wasn't detailed enough. I hear that there are supposed to be 12 volumes. Sadly after Warner Brothers bought Roosterteeth they gave up on the whole thing leaving RWBY stuck with 9 volumes. An anime company in Japan bought the rights to RWBY last year. I assume they plan to finish it. It might also be the reason the show is hard to find now. It was on Crunchyroll, but now it's nowhere. Idk if the world of Remnant videos are something you can find on YouTube, but if you want to understand more about abilities and some lore there are a few that can be watched now. They are short videos explaining things like dust kingdom, and even faunus.
The animation has improved a bit, as it has and will with each volume but the big jump up starts next volume (my favorite just ahead of v6). There is a character short to watch before you start volume 4. It's similar to the trailers that you watched. Also, they put out a show called RWBY CHIBI after this volume that we got to watch between volume 3 and 4. They did it again between volumes 4&5, and volumes 5&6. I suggest watching them in that way. They are short 5 to 7 minute episodes that are very cute and funny.

The appearance on the train is canon, but the second appearance after the credits is not anymore, because Monty passed away without telling any of the other writers what he intended to do with that particular character. So they had to come up with a new plotline for her that didn't fit that post-credit screen anymore, so they said that was just a dream Yang was having
