Bumblebee is in fact the battle duo of Blake and Yang which was adopted as the shipname for them. RWBY is one of the shows where all ship names are based on colors or character traits. This is a lot of fun shipnames in the fandom ^^

The shippers definitely came up with some of the names before this episode, especially Bumblebee. And a lot of fans had been using Monochrome and WhiteRose from the start too, so those weren’t newer names than Checkmate and IceFlower.

Some shippers were already calling them Bumblebee or Bumbleby since Volume 1, so this isn’t the origin of the ship name, just it’s first use in canon. And a lot of fans ignored calling Weiss and Blake Checkmate in favor of Monochrome, same with same with calling Ruby and Weiss WhiteRose instead of Ice Flower like in this episode. I think it’s a shame in Checkmate’s case, because I think that’s just as cute as Monochrome. Ladybug is for sure Ruby and Blake’s ship name tho.

Torchwick actually said “Ice Queen”, referring to Weiss, not “Ice Cream”. That’s why Weiss says “Hey!” In response. But yeah, Neo being themed after ice cream does make that a funny coincidence. And Ruby said “Ice Flower”, which is her and Weiss’s combo attack name, not “Ice Power”. The combo names she gives for the others in this episode are Checkmate for Weiss and Blake, and Bumblebee for Blake and Yang.

Criticism is one thing, accusations are another. I could’ve worded my comment better, but like I said, it definitely does have flaws and it reasonably gets criticism for it. BUT there are also a lot of people who go beyond criticism and just start hurling accusations at the show and its creators, which is extremely unfair especially considering these writers were highly inexperienced. I’m not a racial minority, but I am bisexual, genderfluid, and I have ADHD, and while it is frustrating to see people like me being mishandled in media, I recognize there is a huge difference between someone genuinely trying and just fumbling, and someone who either doesn’t care or intentionally misrepresents us, ya know?

Tbf I think the big issue people have is that the earlier volumes only focus on a certain persons sect and villainize the generalization of the White Fang. It's not until later volumes that we get a more big-picture nuanced take of the group. And even then, there's room for improvement. It's not the worse depiction sure but it's understandable for people to criticize how the WF is initially introduced.

FINALLY!!! Your note about Torchwick using the Faunus and their unrest is so refreshing. People criticize RWBY’s Faunus storyline a lot and while it definitely does have room for improvement, it really frustrates me that people accuse the show of demonizing the idea of fighting back against oppression. That’s not what’s happening here; it is CLEAR that what’s REALLY happening is that a small group of a few (mostly human, important to note) people are taking advantage of a real problem and twisting their own motivations to get those people under their thumb. Y’all— this DOES happen. People take advantage of those who are oppressed literally all the time. People pretend to be on their side all the time. ‘Pandering’ and ‘Manipulation’ are both super common and well known words at this point and yet somehow 80% of RWBY’s fandom have apparently never heard of either 😑 Ahhh it’s so refreshing to see someone who hasn’t been exposed to RWBY’s hatebase watch the show without the biases from Twitter and YouTube swaying their opinions.

I second this 100%. A lot of people don’t realize that RWBY is more or less a multimedia story. They didn’t have the recourses to tell all of the story they wanted to tell, so rather than water it down too much they relied on the Sountrack to do just as much characterization and worldbuilding as the show, if not even more. The Sountrack is essential to understanding character backstories and motivations, especially in early seasons but even in later ones. Aside from demonstrating some great problem solving from CRWBY, it also gives the show a very unique vibe as it’s the only non musical i can think of that does something like that. It’s also one of the major reasons almost all RWBY critiques aggravate me—they often don’t take information from the Soundtrack into account and even when they do, they make the argument that it shouldn’t count. The quality of a piece of media should be determined by the type of media it is, and RWBY is only partially a ‘web series’ and partially ‘narrative music.’ Critiquing RWBY without also analyzing the music is like making a review of Encanto in which you skip every song. Like bro— do you know what form of storytelling you’re consuming? Mini-rant aside, reacting is the same way. I really hope someone can convince her to do a reaction to the soundtrack, because there are huge chunks of the story she’s completely missing otherwise. I know she mentioned she downloaded the songs, but I don’t know if anyone told her she has to pay attention to the lyrics. Red Like Roses pt2 is a HUGE insight to a VERY different side of Ruby that we don’t see in the show proper until wayyyyy later, so that’s like 80% of the main character that Elijah might be completely unaware of, and don’t even get me started on Weiss and Mirror Mirror. Her reaction to Weiss’ behavior in this video is kind of proof she might not have digested the storyline of that song. Moderators, if you’re hearing, please get her to do a reading/analysis of the soundtrack!!

BTW there is a series called World of Remnant on Youtube that was released as the Volumes were. They give more insight on the world and aspects of it. You could look that up. I believe the first 4 episodes were released during Volume 2. Although, the thumbnails may be spoilers for the future so it might be best to watch all 15 eipsodes AFTER Volume 3. Yep, Bumblebee is not only Blake and Yang's combo move its' also their ship name, the combo names were CRWBY's way to invoke the fandom with the ship names they came up with. And to answer your question on why Weiss didn't just call and get the information from her scroll (basically Remnants version of cell phones) she can't, they also cover local areas or kingdoms. The CCT or Cross Continental Transmit system is how people can communicate, send and use multimedia information across the world between other kingdoms. There's a "World of Remnant" video that goes into more detail and better explains it. So fun fact about Neo/Neopolitan, the sidekick that shows up to help Torchwick escape. She was initially a character made cause they'd gotten an opportunity to possibly have Sarah Silverman on the cast. That fell through (thank god) but Monty still wanted to have Neo in the show so he added her into this episode hours before one of the animation pass renders out of nowhere lol. And because of her no longer having a voice, they went with it and made her a mute character which is why she doesn't say a word lol.

It wasn't 'Ice power', it was 'Ice Flower'. The words Ruby was calling out in the fight were their 'combo moves' based on the girls primary color (Freezer Burn = White + Yellow, Ladybug = Black + Red, Checkmate = Black + White, Bumblebee = Black + Yellow, Ice Flower = White + Red). Penny is based on Pinocchio and when she lies, she hiccups as opposed to her nose growing.

Pay attention to when Penny had the hiccups. If you go back to the Yellow trailer, you get a glimpse of Torchwick talking to Junior when you first see the bar. Monty wasn’t able to get Sun and Neptune’s fighting ready for this, so they were bumped from the fight, with the joke at the end. Originally Ruby was explaining Yang’s semblance to Neptune, instead of to Blake who should know by now.

Fun fandom fact since we're talking about ship names. RWBY is one of only two shows I know of where the fandom has a platonic/familial ship name for two characters! It's not used here, but Strawberry Sunrise is Yang and Ruby's familial ship name. The other one I know of is actually from The Owl House, Mama Bird and Sunshine, which is Luz and Eda's familial ship name! :D (Also side note that Blake and Yang's ship name is actually spelled Bumbleby using the ending 'by' as is Team RWBY! This is largely for tagging purposes, since tagging them Bumblebee would end up with a bunch of actual bee related stuff in the tag, lol)

IIRC Neo (short for Neopolitan) was conceived when the CRWBY learned they might have a chance to get Sarah Silverman to voice a role, and needed to find one for her to do. Monty, inspired by a gender-flipped Torchwick cosplay he'd seen, designed the character and inserted her into the show. The deal with Silverman fell through, however, which is why Neo doesn't have any lines.

Yeah, the names ruby is shouting are the combo attacks for the different members of the party, and also happen to be the ship names the community uses (I think most of them are, at least)

When they fight the mecha i think they named the team attacks after the pairs ship names or at least what there ship names was at the time. Weiss/Yang-FreezerBurn, Ruby/Blake-Ladybug, Weiss/Blake-Checkmate, Weiss/Ruby-IceFlower aaaand Yang/Blake which is Bumblebee. All of them is a play with the pairs colors or there motiv in some way or form. Bumblebee, Ladybug and FreezerBurn is still the same Checkmate is now called Monochrome and IceFlower is WhiteRose. I also heard that it was the other way around that we made this there ship names bc of the team attack names i don't know wich one is true tho.

I think she was added due to Monty loving a crossplay of Torchwick and then not wanting to animate Torchwick getting in an airship, so he slammed her into the plot.

Bumblebee is in fact the battle duo of Blake and Yang which was adopted as the shipname for them. RWBY is one of the shows where all ship names are based on colors or character traits. This is a lot of fun shipnames in the fandom ^^

The shippers definitely came up with some of the names before this episode, especially Bumblebee. And a lot of fans had been using Monochrome and WhiteRose from the start too, so those weren’t newer names than Checkmate and IceFlower.

Blake/Yang and Ruby/Weiss are the pairs within team RWBY. They all get along fine, but those pairs match on purpose. You'll see as you go on just how integral they are to each other as pairs.

No she's an adult, confirmed by the novel Roman Holiday. Just short. She's estimated to be in her mid 20s at the time of Volume 2.

And she was originally just supposed to be in this one episode, but the fans LOVED her, so she became a sime-reaccuring bad guy. Also if I remember currectly she is around Ruby's of 15 . (Maybe a year or so younger)

To answer your question without spoiling the meaning for you, pay attention to when Ruby says Checkmate who’s fighting and compare it to when she says Bumblebee and Ice Flower (alt name White Rose). And a hint that pairing has a duel meaning 😌 You’ve already kinda clocked one of the meanings

The creators took the fan made ship-names and turned them into team attack names as a nod to the Fandom. Except for "White Rose" which became "Ice Flower" because "White Rose" was too on the nose... given than "Weiss Rose" literally means "White Rose"
