They have rather similar character designs at first glance.

Scanlan's solo mission in the campaign was way more insane and unbelievable lucky rolls during the mission.

DnD is a terrifing game and Matt Mercer is an unpredictable DM (Dungeon Master). Sometimes he just rolls low/not high enough, sometimes he just wants to see us and the players ,,suffer".

Percy wanted to see Scanlan do a solo mission so he could fail. Well Percy can now select how he wants his words served, medium rare or well done.

Elijah full on going "WHAT WAS THE REASON! WHAT WAS THE REASON! WHAT WAS THE REASON!" at the end.
Her reactions to this show are some of my favorites. This is a show for big reactions, especially for first-time viewers, and we're definitely getting them.

At some point, you should look up the "Scanbo" sequence from the actual game — they *toned down* the sheer level of awesomeness for the series. Even Matt Mercer was taken aback by the crazy shit Sam managed to accomplish.

Remember that this is different from just a friend of yours watching a show with you. Elijah's channel is entirely based around her reacting to things, and a big part of that is her speculating about (to her) unknowns, and getting shocked by twists. Filling in those blanks for her takes away that opportunity for her.
Now, there is a clear difference between giving information that she has no way of knowing, versus pointing out information that *was* given that she missed or misunderstood (like, if she hadn't realized that Anders and Stonefell are different characters, it'd be valid to clarify that). And I think discussing how a given scene/plot she's watched in TLoVM went differently in the live play is also valid, because it is by nature *different* than the direction the show took it and thus won't prevent her from speculating on what's to come in the show.
Just... take a minute to think about whether you're clarifying information that's already been given or if you're telling her things that'll take away Elijah's ability to speculate and get excited about finding out. I really love seeing her "HOLY SHIT!" reactions to things, and I'd hate to lose any of those because she's already been told what to expect.

Huge cliffhanger!
Mathew Mercer: And that’s where will pick it up next week!
Elijah: What the fuck?! You can’t just end it there!
Yep, still a newbie into the Critical Role world! 😅💜

Elijah wouldn't have any idea about all of these details, she hasn't watched the campaign and we don't find out these details until later in season 2.

Makes no sense to kill her again?
Bold of you assume that it's part of any plan, and not just Anders being a short-sighted egomaniac 😆
Information because it's not really explained in the show:
In D&D, a lot spells require spell components (specific materials, hand movements, spoken words) to activate.
Residuim (the material shown at the start of the episode) is an extremely valuable mineral because when purified it can be used as a substitute for basically any spell material, or to amplify the strength of a spell.
It's also very rare. Whitestone (Percy's home and the setting for this season) has some of the largest quantities of residuim in the world.

BTW, something you should check out: During their D&D campaigns, they did some intros, too. One of which, for Vox Machina, is them cosplaying as their characters! I wanted to wait for this specific episode to mention it, for one specific reason, but It'd be cool if you added a reaction to it in one of your next Vox Machina reaction! :)
Don't know if I can add Youtube links here or not... but it should be easy to find anyway! (edit: Yeah, just entering "Critical Role campaign 1 opening" in Youtube, and that was the top result. Just saying! :) )

I strongly recommend checking out the game's version of this distraction. It plays out way differently than it does here, but Scanlan did indeed solo functionally an entire "dungeon" by himself, dealing with a mansion full of guards and besting Duke Vedmire all while the rest of Vox Machina prepared to raid another mansion elsewhere. Matt had both raids play out simultaneously, swapping between Scanlan and the others every few turns. Sam was getting into it, so much that even though at several points he mentions how the smart move would be to leave, he was determined to "burn this motherfucking house down!" and kept pushing. He even takes his tie off and wears it like a headband since one of the others made the comment he was basically going full Rambo here, hence "Scanbo". What's especially interesting is that when the group was first getting together for that private home game that became a regular thing before becoming Critical Role, Sam and Liam (Vax) were discussing what the different classes and races of D&D were since Sam had never played before while Liam had played loads as a kid. Sam, always a lover of playing out negative consequences, asked "what's the worst combination of race and class" to which Liam suggested a Gnome Bard, which is why Sam opted to play Scanlan as one. With one crazy session, Sam proved to himself, to his friends and to the audience as a whole that Bards weren't as useless as everyone thought at the time by just wrecking house by himself.

Had a a bit of a laugh at "Where do I know that voice from?" since Stephen Root is one of the hardest working character actors of the last 30 years and seems to pop up in just about everything. And he does his usual great work here, digging with gusto into this utterly despicable role.
