Other then being brilliant earworms, they are great at forshadowing future things without spiiling them (in later Volumes especially), minus Volume 6's, I still don't know why they put some things in it. So please watch the openings. Besides it is super fun to speculate about what each shot in an opening alludes to.

As you watch the series you’ll realize that almost all the characters are based off of fairy tail characters. For example Weiss Schneider translate to White Snow in English. According to the creators, Taylor came into the recording booth and nailed that whole monologue in ONE TAKE, so they had to keep giving her fake notes and other things to try just to use up the rest of the time she'd been hired for.

At this point they're only just starting to take the first new steps on their journeys as individuals, teams and friends. Weiss doesn't exactly make the best first impression in volume 1, but I've really come to love her.

Fun facts: If you look up the full name of the Wizard of Oz, the initials are OZPINHEAD and here we have Ozpin, the Headmaster. The map of the world in the first minutes of the show came from a napkin intentionally stained with ketchup and crumpled up - yes, really - there's a picture of it on the RWBY wiki but there are also tons of spoilers there. Also someone probably mentioned this in the previous video, but Weiss is the German word for white and her last name, Schnee, is snow.

Ruby is little red riding hood, weiss is snow white( her name weiss schnee translates to white snow) Blake is Belle from beau and the beast and yang is goldilocks

2024-08-11 20:30:11 +0000 UTCI’m glad you’re reacting to multiple episodes since they’re so short. I remember also feeling a bit lost when watching these early ones. Because they couldn’t afford to animate long episodes, you don’t get a lot of world building except for some terse exposition. It doesn’t hurt the show too much though in my opinion, you just have to go with it and trust that everything will get clearer later on. It’s gonna be a fun ride!

2024-08-11 17:13:57 +0000 UTCYeah, the chapters in Vol. 1 are quite short. All of Volume 1 is less than 2 hours, so practically a movie. Watching multiple episodes at a time is best for this volume. They really don't ever get up to normal TV episode length with a few exceptions.

Team RWBY have connections to fairy tale characters for example. So Glynda, Ozpin and others linked to them do have allusions to the wizard of Oz. There is also a set of guidelines put in place by Monty called the Color Naming Rule that defines how a character is named and was created as a guide for naming fan made characters. Those guidelines are that all RWBY character names must either: 1) Be a color 2) Sound like a color 3) Mean a color 4) Makes people think of a color

And yes, these characters take inspiration from Fairytales, mythology, and other classic pop culture; Glynda Goodwitch and Professor Ozpin are included in a Wizard of Oz allusion, Ruby is Little Red Riding Hood, Weiss Schnee is Snow White, Blake is Beauty and the Beast, and Yang is Goldilocks as well as being involved in another Fairytale allusion but I won’t spoil which one. I’m glad you’re already into it, it has a pretty rough start but gets exponentially better so the fact that you’re already enjoying it is promising! Im very excited to see your reaction to the show’s progression.

Also to answer your question; Yes, Glynda IS a reference to Glenda from Wizard of Oz, and Ozpin is a reference to Oz himself! Every character has a fairytale reference so look out for those!

2024-08-11 16:06:26 +0000 UTCThese opening episodes got a lot of undeserved hatred at the time for not matching up to the personalities people had created for the girls in their heads after the almost dialogue-less trailers, especially Ruby not being a stoic badass all the time. Luckily, the show's own quality didn't take long to do away with that line of criticism.
