Xandia is not innocent in all of this. Sometimes people do bad things for good reasons. All of these characters are complex and not one dimensional.

2024-08-17 22:49:42 +0000 UTCXadia does not catch the flak they deserve in this show. It always shows the humans as the unreasonable ones, when the dragons/elves do their fair share of bad things. The humans killed the dragon king and 'destroyed' his egg, so Xadia sent assassins for Harrow and Ez. Fine; eye for an eye. But then why send dragons to intimidate innocent people and provoke them? Why send troops to the border? If it's just precautionary, why is the dragon flying low enough to terrify people? Why did the sunfire elves ambush Amaya when she was alone on patrol? They want a war. Soren is like Viren here, seeing a threat and not thinking it through before attacking. He was overconfident and fell right into a trap.

But even ignoring that part, she is a dragon, she should know better than to fly repeatedly above a hostile village. It is the equivalent of waving around a gun in public and then being surprised when people try to take you out. She is basically a flying siege weapon, wtf was she expecting?

She's a sapient being, not a wild animal, which means she willingly and knowingly crossed the border, and then circled over a single town for days, scaring the natives. And when attacked, which completely missed by the way, she could have easily retreated or attacked the tower with the ballistas alone, but instead she set fire to a town of innocent people. Meanwhile, Thunder the Dragon King attacked and killed Sarai and the Queens of Duren on sight without giving them a warning or a chance to leave alive. Now what Soren did was stupid, but there's still a massive double-standard here.

2024-08-10 12:36:57 +0000 UTCThe final few episodes of this season are terrific. I was the reverse with Claudia and Soren. Maybe it's just because I'm used to the trope of the jerk jock character that Soren is introduced as. Claudia is so complex. This lovable dork who sees no moral issues with dark magic. But this was a good moment. The genuine fear in Soren's voice as he tells Claudia he can't move. Claudia choosing her brother over the mission. I knew the bug reaction was coming, and it did not disappoint! 😂 Also, yeah, was not expecting that voice.

And like I always said about her, you can't have a redemption arc until you hit rock bottom. And, well, Soren just hit a rock... Speaking of Avril Lavigne, a sapphic cover of "Girlfriend" would be amazing.

2024-08-10 01:01:30 +0000 UTCThe thing is, the dragon doesn't really had any business being there, seeing as the humans are basically in, at best, a cold war with the elves and the dragons. It's the fantasy equivalent of posting a bunch of nuclear missiles near a town. Sure, provoking them is a terrible idea; it'll just make them shoot the nukes, which is what they did in this episode. But they still posted a metaphorical nuke near the town, that ain't great either.

I do think shooting first just escalated the situation and shouldn't save been done. Evaculatijgnthe town or finding shelter or finding a way to talk tonthem should have been done

2024-08-09 22:40:23 +0000 UTCSoren's decision was bad, which he ended up recognizing, but he's a young military guy, raised by Viren, who apparently has dreamed of slaying a dragon. "Kids, little kids, they grow up believing that they can be a hero if they drive a sword into the heart of anything different." The dragon does seem like she was looking for a fight. Once they met conflict was inevitable.

We don't know what the dragon was doing but clearly she wasn't immediately on a 'kill all humans' kick considering she didn't attack until he did. It's like when a wild animal wanders into a town. You don't start throwing things at it, you'll only piss it off or, worse, scare it at which point all bets are off for how the animal will behave.

Sure, she was frightening the townsfolk but she hadn't actually done anything to them nor did she seem to be acting aggressively. Soren essentially challenged the dragon to a fight and as we've seen, dragons don't take kindly to that sort of thing.

2024-08-09 22:08:30 +0000 UTCThe dragon wasn't truly doing anything harmful by being there and it wasn't hurting anyone, so shooting at them unprovoked started a fight that maybe didn't need to happen. So far the only times we've really seem humans go out into dragon lands have been to kill magical creatures - ie, the dragon king and the fire titan and the supposed extinction of the unicorns. The few times we've seen dragons attack it is almost always in self defense or to protect their lands.

2024-08-09 22:01:59 +0000 UTCThe thing about bad decisions, mistakes and failures is that they can sometimes allow us the opportunity to reflect, grow and walk a better path moving forward. Of course, sometimes people can also choose to simply double down instead. Claudia and Soren are both excellent characters in their own ways and they will each have to decide whether they are willing to walk in their fathers footsteps or not. I don't think anyone expected Spelf to have that voice, but I think it fits him really well once you get used to it.

And when Soren shot, he missed, so she could have just flown the F away and left the village, but no, instead she goes to burn it all down for no reason. It's like - if you pull out a gun in public, don't be surprised if someone tackles you.

She didn't need to burn the entire village down, in fact she didn't need to be there to begin with, she was intimidating the villagers, just looking for a fight and then was shocked when that's exacty what she got.

2024-08-09 19:40:19 +0000 UTCI fell in love with Aaravos the moment he first showed up, he grabbed my interest instantly. When I heard his voice, it was like I got hooked like that AGAIN. Aaravos is legitimately one of favorite characters, if not my favorite. His appearance, his lore, his VOICE. I love his voice so fucking much you have no idea. While I didn't expect it to be so low, I did expect it to be somewhat low, I didn't expect it to be high pitched at all. I always thought it fit him.

I think, partially, it was because the way it's styled reminded me of a nun's habit, which since it's typically a woman's garment I assume my brain just made the jump to female

2024-08-09 17:44:33 +0000 UTCYea. I think they needed more focus on both the sunfire elves this season and the assassins rayla were with to really show it. When something like the moon shadow elves are only in the first eleiosdes it's easy to gloss over what was fully stated. Seasons 1-3 as a whole gets the full story across but it isn't until season 3 you really feel it.

2024-08-09 17:09:33 +0000 UTCWhile I do love the show, I do think some things it fails to communicate properly, one of those is how the humans and the elves+dragons really sees each other as a threat. So when the human sides do something to the elves, it comes off as crazy. I do think we should have seen more of a point of view from the elven side from the very beginning, just to point out that, yeah, both sides are screwing with each other. I don't want to spoil too much, but there are indeed elven characters that could show that. But then again, if we did, we'd lose important screen time for Callum, Rayla and Ezran, Claudia and Soren, Viren and "Spelf". Maybe there just not enough time to go into elven characters as well, but it would have provided better context, in my opinion.

For dark magic being a human invention that blood ritual thing looked awfully close to dark magic being used by an elf. Also vieran didn't seem to know it implying the elf knows more dark magic than vieran

I do think Soren was out of line but he saw an enemy combatant with superior fire power just stalking a city in a place where the enemy is not supposed to go. I do think talking would have been better but the level of concern he had is justified. Why was there a dragon on that side? Are the dragons looking for more info to either invade or something? That's a legit concern. Ofncourse it shows how bad going to war in tbe first place was and that even years later they're still concerned with this is bad.
