Can we appreciate Grenda getting a W?

Zefram Mann

dude, are we the same person? i also always tried to be "boy crazy" like the girls in the shows i watched, and all my friends were all about getting boyfriends...i didn't hear nonbinary lesbianism call my name until 2020, truely XC

Grace Thompson

I fully agree with the whole rant you did with shows making teen girls all about liking boys. Growing up as an autistic kid I based how I acted on shows that I have watched. I thought that I always had to have a crush on a boy and that I had to be feminine. I didn't learn until I was 19 that I was gendervoid and a lesbian. It makes me happy to see better representation in shows.

DIPIFICA!

Misaki

An interesting fact is that the ghost is an ancestor of Wendy named Archibald Corduroy

Lykos

I'll add that I watched this and shows like The Owl House with my 3 girls and tossing in a comment about how it's completely normal to not be boy (or girl) crazy at that age puts in place the needed context around a character like Mable.

Need more infinity train

Appletree

Oh, also, one interesting thing is if you go back to the episode ''into the bunker'' the shapeshifter says to Dipper '' You'll never find the author. If you keep digging, you'll meet a fate worse than you can imagine, and this will be the last form that you'll ever take'' and it shift into the same pose Dipper take when he turn to wood. Some nice foreshadowing.

Hyrule Postman

Honestly, Pacifica might be the most interesting character between her, Mabel Candy and Glenda because , even tho there seems to be something going on between her and Dipper in this episode and [redacted for spoilers], she doesn't have that boy craze thing going on and have actual character development. Ps: I also like this ship and i think i read somewhere that Dipcifica was their ship name.

Hyrule Postman

After you finish Gravity Falls, you should read the tie in graphic novel, Lost Legends. There’s a story in there that actually addresses Mabel’s selfishness and has her learn from it.

Next episode is possibly the best episode in the whole series

Theo Dane

There's several better girls in the show (Wendy, Melody, etc.). I think Mable being heavily based on Hersh's sister is where the boy-crazy stuff comes from. And some girls really are like that. For the time period, having the rich fancy guy choose Grenda over stereotypically pretty Mable/Candy was a good message. But going forward it's all good stuff until the end except one oddly placed episode. A reminder not to read episode titles ahead of time as they can be spoilery.

Christopher Dulin

"You're watching Ghost Harassers! On the Used-To-Be-About-History-Channel!"

Jade

I personally enjoy the majroity of the show as is. But I was also lucky, as I first watched it when it was nearing its end so I got to binge the entire thing haha. I wasn't waiting much for the next big thing to happen. Until the final episode anyway, I had to wait a few months until that aired.

EdwormN7

I love that episode especially because it pushes the horror hard for a kid show. But the B plot drag it down a little bit. I think that Alex has a tendency to hyperfocus on Dipper and his writing for other characters suffer when they don't interact with him and that's specially true not only with Mabel but also Wendy! I mean, where is she!

Thaïsgrün

Please react to the Gravity Falls shorts and the behind the scenes special, between the pines, before you react to the finale.

Theo Dane

Yeah, revisiting the show this year via these and WLR's videos, it does pull into focus that Mabel does have kind of a drop in character in season 2. Season 1 had more of a range of Mabel plots and bits, and some of the boy crazy stuff took the shape of the Radical 80s Hunks that feels like its own separate thing. I kinda wonder if Gideon's creeping on Mabel covered a lot of ground that might have been taken up by more boy crazy stuff instead. Or Waddles! There's like no Waddles in the top half of season 2! Looking at season 1, if you take out the Gideon plots, Mabel really only had three(ish) plots about being all boy crazy: the gnomes, Mermando, and kinda/sorta the Sev'ral Times episode, can't quite place if that one counts, so I'll list it just in case. She has at least that many boy crazy plots in just this first half of season 2, one of which feels like a stretch (Society of the Blind Eye) and one of which is right after arguably her nadir in The Love God. I know being told "just wait" on a show that gets the rave reviews Gravity Falls gets is at least frustrating, but looking at the episode list, we're getting back to good Mabel material now.

Gone

Yeah, when I first watched this show, a lot of episodes this season made me NUTS because I was twitching wanting more main plot.

William Timmins

All aboard the good ship Dipcifica! One of the first mean Disney rich girls gone good. You can find loads of adorable fanart, comics and fic of them. Obviously, careful for now as there are spoilers out there. Absolutely one of, if not, my favorite episodes in the series. Feel that? The wind in your hair? The quiet all the way down below? Your car creeping past the apex of the climb as your gut tightens up? Get ready for the plunge. This is why the fans have been urging you to watch. The best leg of the series begins and soars through the finalé. Enjoy the ride!

Also Dipper and Mabel are based off of Alex Hirsch and his sister Ariel as kids, so her whole boy crazy schtick is based on his sister, not something entirely promoted by Disney. And the whole thing about Dipper making sacrifices for his sister I think is supposed to be a love letter to his sister, emphasizing how much he values her. Not sure if it makes the "Mabel's existence" pill easier to swallow. Also, Alex Hirsch's great uncle, the inspiration for Stan, had it requested in his will to have his ashes dumped in a showgirls' room in Vegas so he could look at the ladies forever. Of course, security ended up having his ashes cleaned out.

LOVE Dipper and Pacifica

Terrell

Hello, Elijah. I don’t usually leave comments, and I’m unlikely to do it again, but I just felt like leaving my thoughts on your thoughts about Mabel and the show in general. First off, let me say that I am a big admirer of you and your work, and I’m looking forward to your next reactions. However, while I do understand your frustrations, I do have a few disagreements. You said that Mabel doesn’t have an identity outside of liking boys, which I think is not only untrue, but unfair. I counted, and there are only eight episodes where Mabel goes boy crazy. I love the characters from Korra, She-Ra and Owl House too, but I think she has a lot more nuance than you give her credit for. We see in episodes like “The Hand That Rocks the Mabel,” “Irrational Treasure,” “The Boss Mabel,” “Summerween,”and “The Golf War” that there is so much more to her. And it only gets better from here. Also, boy crazes evidently are like this, considering she’s based on Alex’s irl sister and her experiences. And speaking as a guy with three straight college-age female cousins, it’s really not that far off. There are a lot of girls like this, even today. That being said, I highly recommend you give this show a rewatch once you’re done with it. You might pick up on something you missed the first time, which is actually part of the fun with this show. I don’t want to sound too critical because despite my disagreements, I still really enjoy your reactions and hearing your thoughts. I just wanted to share some of my own. Gravity Falls is one of my all-time favorites, and both Dipper and Mabel are some of my favorite characters I’ve ever seen in anything. You don’t have to like Mabel, but please don’t say that there’s nothing to her character. Me personally, I adore her, flaws and all. Nevertheless, I am excited to see you finish the show. I really think you’ll love it. P.S. Dipcifica for life! P.P.S. Recommendation: Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (watch the movie first)

KJK

I think you mean Dipcifica

Joseph Williams Wu

There's practically no subplot next episode. Everybody with more than one line and one scene does something tied to the central plot that all comes together.

Joseph Williams Wu

Remember this gibberish from the intro: VWDQ LV QRW ZKDW KH VHHPV

Joseph Williams Wu

One of the coolest things about this episode is according to the irl Journal 3 the lumberjacks who died making the Northwest Manor were the zombies Dipper raised in the season premier. Apaprently they just made Mass graves for them all over town.

DoctorAlakazam

Oh boy! the next episode is a big one, I think you'll be much happier with it. The next episodes should be more up your alley there are still 1 or 2 episodes you might not vibe with. As much as I love Gravity Falls, I completely understand what you mean about having it hyped up, because then your expectations get built up so high and then when it doesn't meet your expectation it changes how you might view something. Gravity Falls is a great show but it's not a perfect show.

JustIJess

From here on out every episode (except one that everyone agrees is the weakest of the show) progresses the story in some way also the next episode is huge

xattygt

They're either Dipcifica or Padippica...and yes, I ship it too. When you start reading the Journal, you'll get some information about the Lumber Ghost that blew my mind.

Chris P3

Well, I can at least reassure you, there's no more boy craziness after this. Mabel might still annoy you, but this aspect is now over.

Dániel Koltai

One of my favourite details from the show haha.

EdwormN7

This is one of my favourite Gravity Falls episodes, so despite the issues you had with some of it, I'm super glad you loved it (at least the main plot) overall! I know you were getting impatient with the show a bit, but I'm glad you are sticking to it. I'm sure most of us really mainly want to see your reaction to the big stuff anyway. And yes, the Dipper and Pacifica ship is cute af haha. I think Dipifica is the name I've mostly seen for it.

EdwormN7

This Episode won Alex Hirsch an Annie for "Best Animated Show For Children", and he was so unprepared to win he showed up to accept the Award drunk lol.

FullmetalNinja25

I totally get why you're annoyed with Mabel but I don't think the way she's written has anything to do with the time it's from. She's not meant to be a role model for girls to look up to like the other shows you mentioned. She's supposed to be an annoying younger sibling who's kind of obnoxious and selfish. Dipper still loves her and I feel like that makes a lot of fans love her too. I think Wendy makes for a way better role model and in my head canon, she becomes more of an older sister figure for Mabel. Still totally get why you're frustrated with her.

Cory Howard

You have no idea the grin on my face when you asked for the show to get back to the mystery, knowing how this episode ended

Tomb

Yes the Dipcifica claims another

Tomb

Hell yeah, one of the best episodesis here.

Mars Shadow

You really wanted lore and mystery. You're in for a big treat next episode and the next one. There's also no boy crazy nonsense next episode. There's only like one or two, maybe a third boy crazy shit subplot in the remaining episodes, but that's it. Also, if you're up for Dipcifica, there's more deliberate teasing in Gravity Falls: Lost Legends, but until you see the next two episodes, do not look up the book and don't read it until you finish the show.

Joseph Williams Wu

That bell is one of my favorite examples to cite of the power of visual storytelling. Without a single word being spoken, Pacifica's immediate acquiescence tells you all you need to known about the abuse she went through, which is way more powerful in your own mind than probably any explicit flashback could be.

Ryan

The ship is referred to as "Dipica." And, yes, it's fairly popular.

David Johnson

Agreed

Brett B.

Awesome Reaction Elijah I told ya it’s going to get good so buckle up girl it’s about to get INSANE!! Merry Christmas To You and Your Family Elijah ✨🎄🎅🏻🎁✨😊

Pamela Kibildis

Next episode is 100% imo the best episode of the whole show. I hope you enjoy it

Cameron Oehler

Sorry to hear that you haven't been enjoying the series as of late. But if it's any consolation, next episode IMO is the best in the series. Hopefully next time will be a good turn for you.

Florena Emberlin

Sweet! Such a lore-heavy episode.

AnakiK

When Dipper is turned to wood, he is in the exact same pose that was depicted by the shape-shifter from episode 2.

Rainbow Moth

Dipcifica 4 Life

Rainbow Moth

Definitely one of my top favorite episodes from the show!! The next one is the highest rated, so look forward to it.

Rainbow Moth

Oh hell yeah, I've been waiting for this! It's honestly wild how much more enjoyable this episode is than the last. This episode has some of the best horror in the series, too. From here on out the rest of the episode, except maybe one, are pretty great. A lot of people hate that one, but tbh I find it more mid than bad, and it's not for a while. Edit: I forgot to mention, but supposedly that lumberjack ghost is actually a Corduroy, so he's in Wendy's family. Also sorry you haven't been enjoying the show as much lately. I was younger when this came out and I first watched it so it never bothered me, but seeing someone else's perspective has certainly been eye opening. I still love this show, but I think Amphibia and Owl House are definitely big steps up. Still, the last stretch of this show will probably be a lot more tolerable for you.

Bailey

Yes! One of my favorite episodes ❤️

FlynnWolf

Next episode is a lot of people’s favorite episode of the entire show so I can’t wait to see your reaction to it!

Joshua King

The start of a new ship. Not quite as great as Lumity, but probably the best one you can get for Dipper.
