Keloid Journey

(Yes my life has a lot of journeys ha!)

So today I'm going in to receive steroid injections as well as laser treatment for my scars. (Sorry I don't have the technical terms, if I find out what they are I will add them to this post.)

My keloids have started to become more painful and itchy, and they have grown to a size that's starting to catch on things (like jackets or seat belts) that cause them a lot of pain and irritation.

Luckily my doctor is wonderful and had offered to give me a cream that will numb the area before the procedure, plus I'm taking tylenol to help with the pain as well. I've done these treatments once before - while they worked - they were extremely painful and I just cried while watching Disney movies all day...

Anyways, for those of you who don't know, I have what are called KELOIDS. They are scars that usually only affect certain areas of the body (Mine are the shoulders and chest area), they are kind of like normal scars, except they continue to heal, and heal, and heal, causing the scrape/cut/pimple/injury to scar over, creating a pink/red/purple colored scar that usually grows more and more over time. They can be very itchy, painful to the touch, and sometimes they will hurt randomly (I believe its because they are growing and causing the skin to stretch, kind of like plastic wrap being stretched).

All of my scars were caused by acne as a teenager and they just grew and grew over the years. I've grown to accept them, but they are constantly painful and itchy, so I'm trying different methods to either make them less painful or get rid of them all together.

I've added some photos to this post, they look weird because they have the numbing cream and medical wrap to keep the cream on, but hopefully I will be up to taking some after photos to show what happens as the process goes on.

Thank you all for your support and patience as I work on my health issues. Feel free to share this blog with a friend who may be struggling with the same skin condition.
