Honestly my expectations for the Sonic movie was low, I was pleasantly surprised with how good it turned out when I did watch it. Obviously the plot isn't exactly super complex or anything, but its Sonic movie, didn't need to be. I agree with you in that the characters and their interaction is what makes this film. The dialog, although goofy at times helps a lot as well.
