Happy Tax Day to all who celebrate. 💀
I recently got to watch the final season of Star Trek Discovery and despite myself, was pretty melancholy about it the following days. The show wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but its heart was in the right place and I will miss it. Far better than the faux Star Wars of the JJ movies, and it ushered in a new era of Trek on television. It tried something different: mainly, to follow a character not in the command structure rather than an ensemble led by the captain. I was onboard for that from the moment I first heard of it, but it seemed that the audience never got the memo and derided its very premise as its biggest weakness. Whatever, I liked that it was trying something bold and new. Eventually every almost criticism would be handled, with that lead character becoming captain at the end of season 3.
Looking at all of my Star Trek sketches, I could see that I had done a handful from earlier in the show but none in recent years, so I did a poll on Instagram of who I might do some fan art of now, and did a “quick” sketch for each of the 4 responses I got. They started out under an hour but the last (Saru) took me somewhere between one and two. Burnham won that poll and I will be doing a more finished piece of her. I like how this digital oil painting of her in mirror universe costume looks… I think I may go with that.
Do y’all have any favorites from Discovery you’d like to see me draw? Put it in the comments!
