So after taking some time off from playing video games, I replayed Manhunt over the holidays. It’s a PS2 game, 21 years old, but available in the PS store as a download with upscaled graphics. I had played the original release many times, and made this (also pictured above) fan art a decade ago.
This game has great characters, and a fun twisted story that got it the distinction of being the first video game to be banned in several countries. Yeah, it’s different. A bit sick. It has an R rating. But we can agree that adults can enjoy R media if they choose, right?
Anyway, I decided to draw some of my favorite characters (again) as this quarter’s sticker set. First up is FUG, one of the Smileys. The protagonist of the game is pitted against various gangs, from street thugs, neo-nazis, military mercenaries, police, swat teams, private security… but my favorites are the Smileys. Inmates that have taken over the institution, and have the most fun appearance and dialog. Big shirtless guys with mohawks and body paint, or tattered sundresses bemoaning the state of the dinner party or negging the others for the affairs they just know they are having. Fug, through his dialog, we know is a bit simpler than the rest, but also the sexiest. And it just cracks me up that he walks around with “drug slut” painted in huge letters across hit frontside.
