Some news on that Food anthology: we (the contributors) didn’t get a whiff of the bad terms of the contract until having to sign off on rights as we turned in some of the work. I asked questions and found the terms unreasonable, and have made a counter offer which I don’t expect to be accepted, so I have effectively left that project. The piece I had written was/is the most personal auto-biographical story I have ever written, and I wasn’t going to give it away forever. I had been gearing myself up for doing it, however, and plan to do it anyway, it just isn’t going to be owned by someone I don’t even know.
Lol. This isn’t the first time I have left a project because of disrespectful/abusive terms but hopefully the last. Probably not, tho. At this point in my life it isn’t worth avoiding my own projects for those of others, if the compensation is insultingly dismal.
