Starting to break down the continuity. This took longer than I expected, mainly because I end up editing what I want to say down to fit in a panel, and that was a lot of editing 😅
I chose imagery from the Ringu films to illustrate the panels, and if you aren’t familiar with, they are as follows:
- 1) Reiko Asakawa holding Sadako’s corpse in the well
- 2) Mitsuo Ando finding a secret message poking out of the corpse he’s just autopsied
- 3) no image, since the 3rd book has never had an adaptation
- 4) Sadako wearing the mask she wore playing a ghost on stage
- 5) the forensic reconstruction of Sadako’s face, clay built upon her actual skull
- 6) Ando holding a photograph of Sadako from her acting days. The Sadako of the books, and the Rasen timeline, is more aggressive and has agency, which shows in this picture. I like the victim of fate/passive Sadako of the film continuity, but there’s a lot to like about the one who is writing her own story.
Oh, there will be a glossary! *NENSHA- Japanese term for the psychic ability to imprint thoughts upon unexposed film.
