For those waiting on the last bunch of stickers, please bear with me. It’s a long story but they were lost during shipping, and a replacement order is in. I’ll be keeping y’all posted.
The above image is Sadako from the television series based on the first book. We just finished watching last night, and I must say of all the adaptations, this was hands down the worst. There’s a couple of good tweaks on the story, such as the cursed video tape being a J-pop music video that has all of the weird imagery and puzzles that we are used to being sublimated, much like the “message” in the film Contact. I hated this initially but ended up liking the idea. The story ended up so altered and piled onto (to pad it out to 12 45 minute episodes) that it became dull and convoluted at the same time. Each of the main characters were the least unlikeable versions of themselves, some even being antagonist rather than protagonist, and main characters end up being progeny of Sadako and the old girl’s actual presence in the story is minimized. There’s a better-rated follow up series based on the second book (which I am a fan of) but I honestly have no idea how they can adapt it after fucking with the characters so much.
The above image is the stand out moment in the tv series. Asakawa (the reporter/main character who is a woman in the movie, but a man in the books and this series) is in the well, his time about to run out, and Sadako appears and watches him, submerged but for the top of her head. He gives an impassioned speech about love conquering hate (to an onryo, literally a vengeful ghost) and she appears to be listening but is actually just waiting for his time to run out so she can kill him. Lol.
William was not happy with whomever decided to give her bangs.
The series is called Ring: the Final Chapter (for some unknown reason) and a very lo-res version is on YouTube
