Photo from 10 years ago… I feel like I have aged 100 years since then.
About a year ago I had a severe injury to my right shoulder, and since then a coincidental onset of degenerative arthritis to the same shoulder. I met with an orthopedic surgeon’s nurse this week, after many month of different doctors appointments and tests, and fully expected to be announcing now plans for surgery to fix all of this and get back to normal… but it seems that isn’t possible. Even with surgery, things won’t be “normal” again, and so I am weighing whether to risk such major surgery, or go with something less invasive. In any case, I can never lift weights again, and am restricted in what I can do with my right arm. I can still draw on an iPad, which is good, lol. But a lot of things I love and am used to doing are out of the picture now, and I am just going to have to adapt. I thought I would be announcing a few months where I would be recovering from a shoulder replacement, but I guess instead I am saying I can’t do most of the things I used to. Almost nothing that requires upper body strength. I will still be tattooing, but I have to adapt to doing it in a way that doesn’t put weight on my shoulder. I’ve found working on clients who are on a table instead of a chair is good…
Anyway, that’s that. I’m going to try to make the best of this, but I ain’t gonna lie, it sucks and I hate it. But what can we do, but cope and carry on. I suppose someday I might write/draw a story about it, lol.
Thanks for listening.
