Debby Harry and UPDATES

When I was in High School, I was obsessed with Blondie and Debbie Harry, and drew her all the time, winning awards at school district art shows with yet another portrait of Debbie. The walls of my bedroom had every Debbie poster I could find up on them… now I just have one that I keep rolled up because it’s literally falling apart.

Blondie came up in conversation recently and I have been listening to their albums again, and missing drawing Ms. Harry… I think the last time was in college when I chose her as the subject of an illustration assignment… where I painted her performing onstage with a looming lucha libre mask as the background 😂. It makes sense to Debheads.

Anyway, I decided I had to rectify this and start drawing her again. I’ll see if I still have any of the old magazine photos I had collected to draw her from, but this one is just from the photo shoot for the cover of the first Blondie album.

Someday I may have to draw out my Debbie Harry story, just so I can draw that bewitching smirk of hers.

Still working on getting the first Stray Bullet book together. Cleaning up hand lettering on the first story, cleaning up some art along the way and occasionally redrawing things that really bother me. At that period, 4-5 years ago, I was keeping a schedule of a page a week and looking at it critically now, it shows. My style now is, though far from perfect, a lot more polished. I take the time to be happy with the art now instead of just getting it done… I know there’s something to be said for both approaches, but I can’t let some of this slide… for instance currently redrawing a frame of Jay who doesn’t look like Jay at all. But it’s all coming along.

There’s a possibility of a queer comics convention this summer (it seems kinda late to still be saying it might happen, but fingers crossed) and I will definitely have this book ready for then. I have basically 3 other books in stages of near-completion (sketchbook, Burial of the Rats, and Stray Bullet pt2), so I plan on keeping things as they are once this book is printed: working on getting the next book to the printer while working on new pages.

I will definitely be posting about this convention if and when there is news.

Again thanks for all your support, and thanks for your patience. I will resume welcome sketches presently!
