I’m in the middle of the last page of pt. 1 of Loose, and find I can’t post a teaser panel because it’s a full page image! So here I am working on it and realize that my workspace looks interesting enough to share.
I am working in Clip Studio Paint, which is an art program similar to Photoshop but geared more towards the comic book artist (past versions were called Manga Studio). I knew that a lot of professionals I admired used it, and when I came across it on sale a few years back, I decided to try it. Stray Bullet was probably the first time (other than some digital paintings) and then I went on to do the work I did for Velvet Collar on it, and I really only open Photoshop anymore just to do graphic work with text.
On the left is the toolbar, then the subtool menus and layers. Next to that is a workspace window I keep open for reference materials; here it’s the first page on Skull Island where establishing shots show the layout well. On the right is the file for page 14, where I am inking the trees and at the bottom are pencils of some panicked tribesmen.
