Added 2020-07-26 04:57:28 +0000 UTCEach time I have watched through the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, I have wanted to draw this character, specifically the way he looks when he's singing in the infirmary. The actor naturally has dark features, but at this point his blackened eyes are just crying out for a chunky ink brush! This most recent watch through I treated myself to the 4th season soundtrack, which opens with this song: Gaeta's Lament. Easily one of the best tracks and each time I listen I remember how I wanted to draw this.
I used to see street art around Hollywood that was in the style I am going for here, super thick ink brush that just worked so well as portraiture because of how the artist approached shadow and dark areas. I have some photos somewhere but never learned who was doing this art.
I'll probably add the song lyrics around the background since this is so tied to the music.
