The Contest round 1

I mentioned in a previous post that I had held a contest on Instagram, I needed a third (and maybe fourth) gun toting comic book heroine to round out a flash set with Motoko and Judge Anderson.

First I asked for entries. Some were who I was already leaning towards (Tank Girl) and some were villains who I liked for the spot (Mystique). I didn’t want a mainstream character but I knew if I opened it up to suggestions I would get plenty, but I also got a lot of new-to-me characters.

So here’s who the suggested contestants were, and if I used them and why not if I didn’t:

Tank Girl used. My fav going in.
Mystique used. Wound up being my favorite by the end.
Deunan unused. Too similar to Motoko.
Gunslinger Girl used. New to me.
Domino used.
Faye Valentine used. Cowboy Beebop has been a manga.
Aeon Flux unused. Has only technically been a comic book.
Lara Croft unused. More comics than Aeon, but still much more of a video game/movie icon.
Lady Bloodstone used. New to me.
Danger Girl unused. Too overtly sexual. New to me, a well designed character, but I didn’t see the point of doing a pin up of a heroine who is already a walking pin up.
Ghost used. New to me.
Lady Mechanik used. New to me.

12 entrants, 4 rejected, for an even 8. I decided on bracket voting, so multiples of 4 are best and this worked great.

Round 1

I put up 4 head to heads so people could vote on them, and the winners go on to round 2. I put Tank Girl vs. Gunslinger Girl, Domino vs. Faye Valentine, Mystique vs. Lady Mechanik, and Elsa Bloodstone vs. Ghost.
