Rock of Dagon
Added 2018-05-17 20:46:56 +0000 UTCI might be late with the page this week, so here's a piece of tattoo flash I did for Mermay2018. I couldn't resist going the monster route for my mermen (yes, there are others I did as well).
There's a classic tattoo design called the "rock of ages" which depicts a woman who has survived a shipwreck in a stormy sea, saved by a stone cross jutting out of the ocean. She usually has her arms wrapped around said cross.
There is also an early H.P.Lovecraft short story named "Dagon", in which the narrator survives a shipwreck and ends up on a barren rock which he traverses until he comes across an obelisk... and a giant fish-man crawls out of the ocean and props himself up on said stone. Being a Lovecraft story, the sight obviously drives the narrator insane. One could argue that the end result is similar, depending on your view of religion.
So yea, the two are too similar for me not to have done this at some point :)

Dave, this one is a keeper. You need to get it to a wider audience than just etching it one someone's body. I suggest prints or, make big, make it a poster. Not that I'm committing to buy it, so don't listen to me. Still, it's a really cool piece.
