Bam! It's that surprise everyone knows about by now. Well let's pretend it's a surprise!

One thing I've never shared was why I did this with Doug... it wasn't part of the plan when I created him. But the early days of Feral coincided with Janet Jackson's nipple-gate and US AG Antonio Gonzales' crackdown on internet porn, and I had already had a few pieces of art rejected by Instigator magazine (of all places), because the mythological man-beasts performing sex acts could be seen as beastiality. I was drawing the sex scenes in Hard to Swallow #2 around the same time and was uncomfortable with drawing Feral rimming Doug... in close up, it did appear to be beastiality. I'd already been using "dogspunk" for years at the time, and people assume it means dog cum, which it doesn't. It doesn't really mean anything, but when people say dogs punk these days I don't bother correcting them... though I guess you could make that mean something dirty too. Anyways, this is why I wanted to make Doug a werewolf too, but more along the Lon Chaney Jr style that looks more human than animal, though honestly he looks more like Eddie Munster than Larry Talbot.

I honestly think it was that my stuff, though sexy and masculine, wasn't "nasty" enough for them. The issue before had Monsterbait's stuff in it, which is pretty much the same sort of manimal sex... but it's grittier and more visceral. Thorn has used my art when it's been more fetish-y. I think the excuse he gave was just that, really. An excuse. But no big, I still sell prints of some of those rejected pieces.
