RIP Chris Cornell

So I wrote this comic some years ago, maybe even 20 years ago, and did a super rough version in a sketchbook. I had always had it in mind as filler someday, to pad out a book of miscellaneous stuff, like Dogspunk Comix. If there ever was a #2 of that, I had a number of one pagers that would go in there.

But in light of Chris Cornell's death a few days ago, I thought it appropriate to actually draw the thing.

Back in the mid 90's, Soundgarden was the soundtrack to my life. The first cd I bought was BadMotorFinger. Cassettes of their albums lived in my walkman, and went on every trip with me. They were my faves through several relationships, and "Blow up the Outside" was my personal co-dependency anthem after a painful break-up. I recall being in the Hole in the Wall Saloon when the DJ put that song on and I just started balling...

So then one day went pretty much how this comic goes. I've had sexy Jesus dreams since then, and I am wondering if they are related, lol. Chris was right, there have been other favorite bands, but I went through a lot with Soundgarden.

Chris's death has bothered me. I didn't know he was one given to depression and such, and so I can relate, but suicide... he has kids. How is this going to fuck them up?  My cousin killed himself, and his daughters found the body. I was really pissed at him for that, and I am pissed at Chris as well.

I've been listening to them a lot over the past couple of days. I know Bowie was a bigger figure, and an earlier favorite and hero of mine, but we had broken up long ago (I never forgave him for "going straight" just as the AIDS crisis was hitting).  Blow up the Outside came on while I was driving to work today, and I had to grab my sunglasses and put them on because I couldn't help but cry.

RIP Chris Cornell

Thanks! I've managed to get the cintiq to look as sloppy as my ink pen work!
