It had been suggested to me, that since so many of my comics touch on music, that I do a series specifically with that theme. I have been considering that, and one entry would definitely be about how one particular song takes me back to my first time in Amsterdam.
I heard that song last night, and thought about doing this strip once again. As I pondered it, it seemed to intersect with my desire to do more political comics... well, it didn't seem to--- it did. That time in Holland gave me an in depth look at an actual socialist/anarchist community that was thriving and kind of awesome, and would deeply affect me in ways I wouldn't realize until much later.
The more I thought about it, the more excited I got to do it. Fortunately, I kept a sketch journal on that trip... the art is rough, but there are a lot of details I made note of (plus it keeps an accurate timeline of the events involved)... and I plan to do some research on the topic as well. The good thing is that I believe I can start this while finishing up Velvet Collar... it's not going to take as much prep work as Stray Bullet, and doing it in the style of Questioning Authority, I can work on it at home away from my cintiq/computer. I started writing it last night. Still working on a title... "Happy Squatters"? "Ghetto Soundwave"(the song that I alluded to)?
