I'd imagine I'll have to make sure I kept my tenses in line. I have a bad habit in narratives of bouncing between the present and past tense. I'll have to write all of the text out on one document to make sure it gels and works as prose... I'm sure it came off as clunky here. I tried to make it more digestible as something read a panel at a time here, but always knew it would be read all at once once it is done. I put Chauncey's name just about on every page, for instance--- but that will seem very repetitive when taken as a whole.
So what's next, me droogs?
There's a handful of pages I need to do for the finished version. The "Finis" page, the establishing shot I spoke of before... the gate-leaf maps, a cover image... and massaging the likenesses a bit.
Which reminds me that it's time to do the same with Damaged. I had made some fixes between the original Patreon posts and the self-print version that I am not pleased with anymore than the originals, so I will be anal-izing those problems to death. But it's time to do it, and finish all other aspects so I can get a professional print-run made. William has been doing a back-up story for the book, and I may do a new cover. I love the artsy graphic one I have now, but it's more descriptive of the title and Grant's psyche than of the story. Something with pups and furries would seem more appropriate. Would that wrongly imply that such things are "damaged"? Another idea I had for a cover would be no less conceptual/artsy, so maybe I'll use that as a inside cover detail... or for the back cover. I'll post that once it is done, of course.
The main reason to get damaged finished up for good (other than doing it before it just becomes a thing of the past) is to have a new product for conventions this summer. April 14th and 15th will be the 2nd Queers & Comics Conference , this time in San Francisco, and then a handful of other cons I hope to attend. Rats will be nice to have as well, but that can come after Damaged... just as long as it is in time for halloween!
Then it's on to Stray Bullet. If past is prologue, then I will no doubt start up with that before I finish what I am supposed to be doing. I did mention I have ADD, didn't I? ;P
There's also another project I don't want to jinx by speaking too soon about it. It's illustrating a book for a writer who has been persistent in asking me to work with him, and he's also been very professional and respectful in our dealings, so I am going to give that a shot. I'm trying to work it out so that I can feature the work here, even if only for a certain tier or higher. I think it is all work you would enjoy, because you are my patrons and I wouldn't want to do it if it wasn't fitting for me.
