I wasn't sure if you knew what a "eunuch" was(Wangzhi is a eunuch) so just in case: A eunuch is a man who has been castrated either for job requirements or as punishment, usually, they are employed to guard the women's living areas at an oriental court which as you can see, he guards the Noble Consort of the palace. The palace usually employs eunuchs because they are stronger built than women but because of castration, they are not influenced by women or sexual needs and are also very intelligent and cunning as a result. Due to this, while eunuchs were one of the most trusted slaves and tended to be some of the most powerful political players in the Chinese government, the court was also wary of them (which is why the emperor trusts Wangzhi but not completely). Eunuchs were also often looked down upon outside the palace.
