I wasn't sure this story would have a proper ending to it, but as I was writing I realized that it did actually have a full arc to it, something auto-biographical stories don't always have. I also opened up the palette a bit more than previous pages, but still kept it limited.
I wish Bent-Con had ended up differently, but when I turned down a co-leadership position in favor of art director, I lost any control over that part. If you'd been reading "Questioning Authority", you can guess my direction would have been more socialist than capitalist, it would not have gone into debt trying to grow faster than it organically could, and would not have had to go bankrupt. After helping produce 3 cons I voiced once again how I felt it was going in the wrong direction, and I was told that this 3 year old convention had every expectation to be able to charge vendors and attendees as if it were an established huge event... but people had been telling me all along that it was fun, but too expensive to attend or show at. I even got a letter from Donna Barr telling me how we were doing it wrong, and all I could say was "you are preaching to the choir, lady".
Still, it was a lot of fun, and I miss it.
Mainstream cons just aren't the same.
