coloring book page
Added 2016-01-30 06:14:39 +0000 UTCThe soon to be released anthology ALPHABET has a coloring book as a reward for kickstarter backers, and this is my page for the coloring book. The theme of the book is gay heroes, and I chose Oliver Sacks. I did not do myself any favors by choosing a neurologist... and one that was seemingly fairly camera shy until he became a grey haired older fella. I had to keep rethinking the design as to make it more interesting to color... and not just have some white-haired old white man.
I read his autobiography in preparation for this, and found him even more kindred as I did so.
I really only started to really enjoy hearing his stories on different radio programs (mainly Radiolab) mid 2015. Then, he suddenly came out of the closet (in his mid-eighties!) and announced that he was dying. Soon the radio waves were heavy with tributes to the man.
Anyways, I am not certain how well this works as a coloring book page. But I know it works as my own tribute to a man I wish I had known.
