Added 2015-11-21 23:54:08 +0000 UTCMy friend Kurt Davison introduced me to Dredd, though I had seen him on Anthrax shirts co-workers were wearing at Hamburger Mary's. I was collaborating with Kurt, who was a writer, and a lot of the stuff he wrote was just for 5 or 6 pages of story. With hindsight, I can see that he was influenced by 2000ad and Judge Dredd. 2000ad is a weekly anthology comic, so the stories told in it get 5-7 pages a week.
In it's 38 year run, Dredd has been one of these segments in every issue except 2 or 3. Some have been longer stories (told 6 pages a week) but a good deal of them are done in ones, one full story crammed into a few pages. Dense. These need more expository boxes, but are a meatier read than some 22 page Astonishing X-men comics. Quality over quantity.
When Kurt passed away, his partner got this Bolland image of Judge Dredd tattooed on his arm as a tribute. Trying out to draw for 2000ad and Judge Dredd is in part my tribute.
