After the Tower Explosion

The scene described by Nora on page 585, where she mentions finding Trace with Laura in his arms after the tower explosion, suggested by Ashers BC!

After the Tower Explosion

Comments

*As trace held Laura, she couldn't help but to notice a faint trace of a black color on the tips of his hair, with the last bit of magic he had, a barrier held them protected from the explotion. Then she saw his eyes, where white should be only darkness remained* I....s....keith.....safe?.... *every breath was painful and it took what little strenght she had, Trace voice was deeper, harsh, almost like a growl* he....is....safe.... *as both begin to faint, his hair recovered his blue tone, for THAT trace, knew what was comming, once more he had failed to save*

Emilio De La Fuente

Would Laura, Keith and Natani have become a pack, like they did in the alternative storyline where Laura lived?

Darwinskeeper

I just reread the pages and Nora just said the ‚no amount of medicine‘ thing and in my eyes it is left open, if Trace using his lifeforce would have been able to save Laura and if so to what price for her and him. But Your Interpretation may be right.

Joshu Kel'Machan

Yeah, I know Laura must have been removed to give space for Natani by Tom's design. Though I don't like to think about reasons of authors, it breaks immersion. Magic implosion only hurt creatures who rely on magic to live. Humans, on the other hand, just lose ability to cast for a time, magic energy was drained. Laura and others were hurt by physical explosion. Basitins had no problems patching them up. Laura was closer to the tower though. The sketch suddenly showed that Trace protected her from the blast. I think Tom didn't think this through, Trace was not himself in that moment. He must have come to Laura after explosion. Healing physical wounds as a mage requires some knowledge (about physiology at least, just as for doctors) and energy. But energy was drained from the island, only lady Nora had some left. It would be a piece of cake for her if she had more of it. She just chose to spend it on other things. Even Trace could do it, if he had used his life energy (lady Nora stopped him) You're right, I'm not entirely sure if basitins would have been able to save her. But the way they treated others gave me impression that they knew basic surgery.

Drazgon

From canon we don‘t know too much about traditional Mekkan medicine or basitin medicine in detail. Personally I think that the healing powers of a magical being like a dragon are far above their possibilities. Nora said, that even she had no chance to heal Laura and was just able to douse her pain. This might be because Laura caught a massive amount of magical power that even brought Nora in trouble. Perhaps comparable to a massive exposure to radioactive radiation in rl. So the whole thing might tell more about Traces magical powers than about Nora not doing everything she could to save Laura. But hey, this is a fantasy world and think about what a living Laura would have done to Nats and Keiths story arc …

Joshu Kel'Machan

It was lady Nora's choices. First she chose to carry them away, because she assumed basitins would have Trace killed. Then she used remains of her strength to care for Trace's wounds again, not healing her mortal wounds. It results in great waste of crucial time for Laura. I think if basitins doctors got to her sooner, they would have been able to stop internal bleeding. I think best choice would have been to take Trace and leave Laura near tower for basitins to find her with all other survivors. But of course hindsight is 20/20.

Drazgon

very much needed that.

I remember when this page came out, broke my heart.

K_D Lawrence

Sure, break my heart again!

Ard Rí Sídhhe Dragon

I am feeling so sad for Laura I wish see survived

Mr great ape

it's a sad scene i do wish she survived from that explotion

silver dragonia

I wonder if Laura being slightly further from the tower when it blew might have made the difference between her barely surviving the explosion and not.

KaiserDunk

Everything said so far. It was Lauras courage and dedication that saved the day back then, she is a true heroine. Tom has captured the moment perfectly.

Joshu Kel'Machan

That’s still such a touching scene, re-reading what happened next, in the archives.

Ceera Brandt

KABOOM!!!

Jonathan

Thanks, Ashers. Needed that.

Bingo Goat

Honestly I feel pretty bad for trace, when I learned that despite his efforts, he couldn't save Laura. It's kinda heart wrenching

wayne sampson

Heartbreak in still life. Tom's artistry is masterful, sometimes more than I'm prepared for. 😭😭😭😭😭

wjd1206

I didn’t need a reason not to cry anyway…

Esteban Manzo

Such a tragic moment for both Trace and Laura and a tragic scene in the comic

RemyHindle

Totally thought this had something to do with the "witnessing a monster arc". But the post disaster feel I got from it was correct after all. Tom's an artist who can really project a mood!

E Ranger

Its even more deep when you remember that Laura was the only Keidran that Trace had mercy on when his evil self was slaying Keidrans.

We'll miss you in the cannon story Laura.

Netari Icefyng

She held on long enough to see that Keith survived, at least she was at peace.

Laura: Mein Leben!

SCD

Awww… so sad, but well done (art-wise). Tried to shield, but could only do so much

Silent Thunder

One often forgets how tragic Trace is as a character

Spillthefire6

Man Laura was lucky to have Keith in the time she did
