twokinds : Nat and Keith

In general, I try to let other run their own lives, I have a hard enough time running mine. I'm not intending to be disrespectful toward you, anyone else, or any group, nor do I have any issue with anyone who wants to see Nat as male only. I'm simply explaining why I choose to see Natani as both due to this character's unique circumstances. How our wolf works through these things (inner dialogues, the Youngtani sequence, "girl-talk" with Kat) is one of the reasons Nat is one of my favorite characters. So I do ask that you don't project my opinion about a fictional 6-foot bipedal anthropomorphic wolf in my favorite webcomic onto real-life people or situations. My wife and I have friends and a couple of relatives who are gay or bi , so I'm pretty sure we're not anything-phobic. As I stated earlier, I was just enjoying the back and forth discussion/debate concerning our respective reasons for seeing Natani as we do. My opinion is not intended as an attack on your opinion. Apology accepted, fur enough?

You can have whatever headcanon you want, but you should still respect that he's canonically male, just look at his ref sheet. Referring to Nat as female is not only disrespectful towards the character, as he's explicitly stated several times that he wants to be seen as the guy he is, and not a woman, but also to all the queer fans who relate to him, one of which happens to be my good friend. So yes, it is near and dear to me. I've been in this "debate" enough times to know there's rarely anything friendly about people claiming that Nat is a woman. I can count on my fingers the amount of times their "argument" didn't just devolve into general transphobia, one guy even started spewing out bible verses and equating trans people to demons or some shit. All that said, you don't seem like you're one of those, so I apologize if I come across as too harsh or rude.

Ok, my friend. I was enjoying what I meant as a friendly debate about a really interesting character in a fine webcomic that we both enjoy, not an argument or a judgement. It remains my opinion that being both is part of what makes our wolf friend such an intriguing character. If you prefer to see Nat as fully male, that works too. We all perceive things in our own way. However, I'm getting the feeling from your ending sentence that I have inadvertently stepped on the toes of an issue near and dear to your heart. It's literally Youngtani that says that, on page 928-933, with him confirming that he always wanted to be a boy, even if it wasn't for the guild or soul link. Nat doesn't really have a "female personality", as Tom himself said, Natani has the mind of a guy and that's how he sees himself. He doesn't know the first thing about women or what they're like and thus doesn't relate to them at all. That's a direct quote, by the way. Natani isn't "both male and female", he's just male. Also, someone else's identity isn't a matter of your opinion.

I can't tell you what they're intentions were... despite having given Keith they're blessing before they might of had a change of heart and thought laura would get hurt if her and keith's marriage didn't work out and likely thought it would be best to shut it down, this kinda thing happens a lot... someone thinks they're looking out for you and end up hurting you instead, I can't think of any other reason why they'd bless the marriage then whisper doubts in laura's ear, maybe it wasn't just a lie but also false hope on they're part as in they might of thought she'd find a Keidran male soon enough and were just wrong.

I won't argue with that, being that I work in HVAC. Heat transfer is my jam. However, I still need to agree with Noxitious on this. Even a single steel plate is enough to keep air from mixing, which I have seen enough times to know keenly. Once the fire goes out, though, heat will definitely transfer, in accordance with entropy, until the room is close to the same temperature as the outside. I figure daylight will be the balancing factor. You'll still have heat transfer even with the fire going, don't get me wrong, but biology views things as relative, and as such is relatively stupid. Nat and Keith won't notice the cold, but chances are the fire was lit recently, so the room is likely quite cold. I cite the hot cocoa still having its toppings in place. If they had been there a while, those would either be consumed or melted away.

I think you misunderstand me. I'm just saying that it's already been confirmed that Natani's whole soul thing didn't impact his gender identity, his meeting with Youngtani established that. Having his restoration impact it would effectively retcon that meeting, as it would go against what Youngtani said. I agree with your sentiment, and wish your friend all the best, But Natani has already on several occasions declared his own true feelings and self image, he's already done the (literal) soul searching and found out who he truly is. As Tom himself said: "Natani has the mind of a guy and that's how he sees himself. He doesn't know the first thing about women or what they're like and thus doesn't relate to them at all. He doesn't actually hate his body even though he often says he does, Natani just hates that it changes how people see him. He doesn't want to be treated differently because of it. Whether by choice or by magic, Natani is the way he is now, and the comic is about him trying to reconcile his mind and body. if I recall correctly from when I read it the only mention of infidelity was the illusion natani cast when she and zen tried to kill them, when they reunited at the basitin island she revealed that she ran away because she was overwhelmed but never confirmed she cheated, I'm 99.9% certain SHE DID NOT CHEAT... she just ran off most of the purdinant info is in chapter 15 I believe.

A person's evolution in life is not a 'retcon'. My best friend finally having the courage (and support) to declare true feelings and self image is not a 'retcon'! I have no preference with Natani, and I feel we all should respect anyone's self image. But like Natani, my friend showed profound changes in their life leading up to her declaration. If Natani were a real life person, I would quietly ask in private and support from that information. Since Natani is a story character, I am willing to wait and support from there; ignoring those trying to impose or direct their desired outcome. I agree that following the patreon without reading the comic is rather foolish. I also think correcting someone without having the full story is equally foolish. To that end however, to point out page 1036 (a good point by the way) without pointing out pages 1203, 1204, 1205 and 1206 (especially page 1206, the words of the first panel say "I can feel it... ...after so long... The missing part of my soul...") That indicates a profound change in self image. It doesn't say Natani's pronouns will change... but they could, and I hope we all can accept whatever comes (especially those who seem to enjoy hackling everyone's fur with their choice of pronouns. Once again I say, let the character inform us of who they are!

I would agree with you if Natani had a fully male soul, but in his/her case I believe either one can be correct, as Nat's original female soul was shattered and was repaired with parts of her/his original self plus parts of Zen's male soul. Therefore, I believe Natani's "self" would be both male and female.

Except Nat's objectively a guy, and that's been clearly stated numerous times both in and out of the comic, it's not a matter of opinion. To claim anything else at this point is plain old transphobia and erasure.

Someone's pronouns are what they refer to themselves as. As long as the character has not changed them, he is a he. Others don't get to choose for them, same nonsense trans people deal with every day.

That's objectively incorrect, it's been confirmed that Nat's masculine feelings and male identity all came from himself, that the black magic and soul meld had no impact on that. Zen just thought so, and that belief was what got carried over. Nat's still a guy, always will be, always has been.
