Earlier, it was pointed out that Flora is *gasp* eating bread! (clutches pearls) Someone pointed out that maybe Adria (or the unknown owner, if not her) goes out of her way to buy gluten free, protein-based bread. The major issue I have with that is the idea was too foreign back in the fifties; that's a very modern concept, if I recall correctly. That said, gluten-free buns cost twice as much as regular buns, if not more. That beautiful price of 15 cents would go up as a necessity, given that most restaurants operate with razor-thin profit margins in order to stay competitive. I have another thought on the matter, though. It's also possible -- and hear me out -- that this AU world has different evolutionary pathways. We could be looking at a tolerance to such food, but that's it. It's a tolerance. Cats don't need to eat plant matter to get carbohydrates; their prey already masticated and consumed all the carbs they really need. As with any other biologic process, what doesn't get used either gets stored for future use (i.e. fat) or otherwise gets purged. If it doesn't, health complications tend to develop, speaking from experience. (I am Type II diabetic, and only have myself to blame.) Kat (given her mixed ancestry) could probably eat the fries along with her burger, and Laura looks like she's fine with her frosty, but if I had to guess, Flora is hitting her daily (maybe even weekly) carb load with that borger. It's all speculation, but it's a fun mental exercise.
